Rating: Summary: Just Because She's Pretty Doesn't Mean She Can't Write Review: Jasmine Guy's conversation with and translation of Afeni Shakur gives new definition of the word artist. Guy makes us understand the importance of this revolutionary woman, not because she was Tupac's mother, but because she is a woman of strength and substance and courage who tried to change things socially in this country during some very scary times for African Americans. Though Afeni Shakur did not live a flawless life, we understand the importance that a mother has in admitting her mistakes and learning from them. I completed this book wanting to be a better, more understanding mother.
Rating: Summary: Shocking Review: There are things in this book that will shock and amaze you. This will put to rest any questions of why Afeni has handled things after the death of her son the way that she has. I have said before (in a review about 'Pac's posthumous work) that this woman gave up so much for the struggle. This book goes into vivid detail about her sacrifices. It also touches on how her daughter, Sekyiwa, dealt with not having her mother around, at times. This book is so moving and so thought-provoking; a must read for anyone who loved her son or for any of us that have lost touch with our own history. You will come away from this read totally blown away!
