Rating: Summary: Love, Sex and An Understanding Of the Evolution Of Our Lives Review: An absolute masterpiece. I cannot wait to read "TheChildren of England" by Alsion Weir! This book was beingdiscussed at a holiday cocktail party (no less) by a friend from New Zealand. I immediately purchased it as I was fascinated by the topics that were being shared - intriguing, fascinating, compelling stuff. True party conversation!Ms. Weir not only addresses the lamentable love life of Englands most notable king, but the research and loving manner in which it is presented sheds remarkable light on the impact of this Royal and his insatiable desires on the progress of the world as we know it. This read, combined with my foray into Biography.coms top five biography's of the millineum, I now have a greater understanding of where we've been and where possibly we are headed. No history course in college taught me what I've learned in the past few weeks, and in such a delightful manner. Whether or not you have an interest in understanding the "Motherland", read this book - it sheds light on the history of the world as well as Henry's most active bedchamber!
Rating: Summary: A well written and interesting summary of the six wives. Review: Ms. Weir describes the lives of Henry's six wives along with a good portrayal of the nature of their various successes and failures, and how they entered into the history of his life, the history of the church, and the history of personal lives of the time. Very enjoyable. Informative. Interesting reading.
Rating: Summary: English history for the not so dumb Review: I can honestly say, sadly, I was never taught this in school. But could the teachers have taught as well as Ms.Weir did? I don't think so. She makes these people who only show as words on a page, stand up and take shape and become real, living, breathing, and some headless, human beings. It's like watching a movie that you've seen before, you know the outcome, but you hope the characters will win in the end. Read it and be enriched! Thank you Ms.Weir
Rating: Summary: A REMARKABLE CHRONICLE OF AN ERA Review: WITH HER IMPRESSIVE DESCRIPTIVE ABILITIES, WEIR MANAGES TO RECREATE IN DETAIL THE LIFE OF ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS KINGS AS WELL AS THE INCREDIBLY INTERESTING LIFESTYLE OF AN ERA. A MUST-READ FOR THE BRITISH HISTORY FANATIC.
Rating: Summary: A informative, friendly book that gives impartial views. Review: This book is one of the most well-written and easiest to read books on Tudor monarchs. Ms. Weir presents only the facts in a clear, concise format.
Rating: Summary: great information; reads like a novel Review: I am amazed at the amount of information given in this book without reading a textbook. Ms. Weir has her research down to little anecdotes of minor players in the vast history of this period of time. I have read several of her books about this era and would recommend them all. I found they should be read in a certain order however: THE WARS OF THE ROSES; THE PRINCES IN THE TOWER; THE WIVES OF KING HENRY III; THE CHILDREN OF KING HENRY III, THE LIVE OF ELIZABETH I.
Rating: Summary: It was a very interesting yet long book. Review: It was a very interesting yet long book
Rating: Summary: A Great book Review: I loved Katherine of Aragon, hated Anne and couldnt take my nose out of the book. All his wifes are different and exciting to read about. Im looking forward to the kids of Henry VIII.
Rating: Summary: Fantastically Realistic Review: I am usually interested in the Elizabethan and Victorian times and most books that I have read are usually dry and heavy reading. Weir's book made the long-dead people come to life, and ignited my interest to know more about Henry VIII, and the lives and loves of the English Royalty before Elizabeth I.
Rating: Summary: Alison Weir writes yet another historical masterpiece! Review: This book has wonderfully protrayed the true personalities and intentions of Henry VIII and his six wives with remarkable ability. It focuses on the people behind the politics during the Tuder dynasty and provides in depth backround information for the novice historian. Alison Weir's book is well accomplished, and for that I salute her. Keep writing!
