Rating: Summary: Best of the bunch... Review: Loved it. Actually stopped reading another book on Charlie becasue this one captured my attention. It's hard not to fall in love with the person that she was. Even her faults didn't seem that bad. The book does a great job of uncovering everything and then some. Actually found out allot I did not know and I've read "helter skelter" front to back several times.....
Rating: Summary: More Sharon Tate than Manson Review: Why I thought this was a well researched and well written book, I found the first 100 pages very long-winded. I was more interested in Manson and his Family and this book focuses more on Sharon Tate's life. I recommend reading this book, but if you want the "meat" of the story (ie-the Tate-LaBianca murders) skip the first 100 pages.
Rating: Summary: Angel and the Badman Review: Sad, sad, sad. The tragedy of the story told here permeates every page and picture. Because of the notorious nature of the Manson Family crimes, any literature on their exploits courts sensationalism and, on the surface, King's book is no exception. Who would want to read about this stuff? What would be the point? Looked at in that way, this could be considered a trashy rip-off. It's hardly that. This is the first volume to give faces and identities to the victims of these crimes, and specifically to Sharon Tate. Given the cultish aura the Manson Family has attracted over the years, one welcomes the opportunity to view the tragedy in terms of the victims and their families, which King does in almost obsessive fashion. Sharon Tate emerges here as sweet, somewhat innocent, but always good-hearted and a gentle, loving person. Rather than the notorious 60s swinger the press made her out to be in the aftermath of the murders, she comes across as a woman of integrity and substance. Her devotion to her unborn child is both touching and sad, in light of what happened to them both, but she is the heroine here without doubt. The other heroines of the book are her mother, Doris, and her younger sister, Patti, both of whom crusaded for victim's rights and Sharon's memory until their own deaths. Of course, no review of this book can ignore the included death photos of Sharon and Jay Sebring. An easy mark for the accusation of "sensationalistic", these photos actually reinforce both the brutality and the tragedy of these crimes as no words ever could. The photo of Sharon in death is truly heartbreaking, and viewing it makes the murder itself as incomprehensible as King likely intended. It makes its point. The ultimate message of this book is that no one has the right to take a human life. Those who do are making a choice about their own needs while indiscriminately disregarding that their victims have needs and rights as well. This is a sad, tragic, but finally noble story about how love of another human being cannot be destroyed, no matter how monstrous the perpetrator. A timely story indeed.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book! Review: I thought this book was excellent. It told me a lot about Sharon that I didn't know. She was really a good person compared to many, and sweetness came naturally to her. The photos were interesting, and even Sharon in death was not that gruesome to look at. The author was tactful, and told the story in an excellent manor. I read about Manson, and he is such an ignorant moron, it's a shame that they stopped the death penalty. This man deserved to die for the crimes he committed, and the crimes he brainwashed his followers into doing. They were all sick people. It was good to read about Doris Tate, and her dedication to families of murder victims. - Great Read!! Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: I never realized roman was such a jerk Review: Having read most of the manson related books,I figured this would be very superfical.I was wrong, this book shows Sharon Tate as a very decent human being, and gives some new insight into how vile and deceptive most of mansons idiot family still is.Sure, it repeats a lot of the facts from other books, but I still think the author did a great job in showing this sad story from the Sharon Tate angle.I really liked this fresh veiwpoint
Rating: Summary: A great book Review: This book is wonderful. I have been waiting for someone to write about Sharon Tate. I've always been more interested in her than the murders themselves. It has always made me upset that so much focus is given to her killers, but not to her. As someone who knows the facts of this case, there are some chilling new details.
Rating: Summary: GREAT READ!! Review: This is a wonderful, detailed book about Sharon that focuses on her life, her dreams, and her accomplishments..this book focuses on who she was and not necessarily who she became..Gregg King did an excellent job of interviewing friends, family members, school mates, co workers, etc. throughout all aspects of her life..it also informs about Jay, Gibby, Voytek, Steven and the La Biancas and gives a detailed account of what happened those two fateful nights..Mr. King allows you to see them as people, with hopes and dreams, and not just as victims..This is a wonderful book for anyone interested in Sharon..She was at a point in her life where she was expecting her first child, working on a troubled marriage and her career falling into place, when she was robbed of everything. This book helps readers understand the pain and anguish the families went through and the good that came from such a horrendous act.
Rating: Summary: GREAT READ!!! Review: This is a wonderful book depicting the life of Sharon Tate..this book really focuses on her life and who she was as a person, not as a victim..Gregg King did a wonderful job interviewing the many friends of Sharon to get a look of who she really was, what her dreams were, and what she was looking forward to doing with her life, career, family, etc..She was excited to become a mother and was trying to settle marriage problems when she was robbed of everything..this book also lets readers know what is currently going on with the murderers and where they are now and what chances they have of being released..anyone remotely interested in Sharon Tate will find this an excellent, informative book!!
Rating: Summary: A must read, truly captivates! Review: Not only does Greg King give us a chilling account of the murders themselves, he also gives us great insight to what's happened to the victim's families and the heartless killers themselves in the 32 years since these senseless murders were committed. It's heartbreaking to learn how the victim's families must continue to relive the gory details of the murders everytime one of the convicted killers whines before a parole board about how they have changed and should be set free and given a second chance. The victims will never get a second chance, why should the killers? It's incredibly obscene to hear the killers say that the only reason they haven't been paroled yet is because these were such "high profile" crimes and if this had not been the case, they would have been paroled long ago. While that may be true, let's not forget that it was the killers who chose these particular victims BECAUSE they wanted these to be "high profile" crimes so the world would listen! Well, the world did listen, and the vast majority of a descent, law-abiding society is determined that people who are capable of committing such a senseless crime (no matter the reasons) shall never be free to walk among us again. Greg King's focus in this book is on the victims, not the killers, and that's how this case should be remembered. So many times, books and articles are written to try and obtain sympathy for the killers. They should be grateful that they beat the gas chamber and face the fact that a life, even though behind bars, is still a life. That's much more consideration than they ever gave any of their victims.
Rating: Summary: Remembering the victims. Review: I first heard of this case in 1988 when Geraldo had his Murder special, and on his own show when he had Manson on. Giving the spotlight to the low-life killers isn't right(except maybe to give insight to why people do the things they do). Last December I saw the crime scene photos for the first time on-line, and was haunted for quite a while. It was like these murders had just happened a few days ago, and not thirty-one years ago. It's very hard to comprehend, why this kind of thing has to happen. I feel it's important to remember the victims as they lived, and that's why this book is important(although it talks about the tragedy and it's aftermath, it is a thorough look at her life and career and so on.) One thing not dealt with as much was the other victims' background information, although they are touched on a little bit. Overall, instead of glorifying the evil persons who perpetrated these acts, we should remember the good people whose lives ended too soon. E!'s True Hollywood Story on this case is the perfect companion to this book.
