Rating: Summary: Sein Language Review: SeinLanguage compiles some of comedian Jerry Seinfeld's favourite material into an easy to read book, written pretty much in the way Jerry speaks. If you've watched Seinfeld (particularly the earlier seasons) most of the material in "SeinLanguage" will be familiar to you from the little "stand-up scenes" played at the start and end of the episodes. Don't expect any appearances from Elaine or Kramer, or a full blown autobiography. Jerry simply gives us anecdotes and observations picked up from his everyday life, observant as a sociologist but in language that everyone can understand. It's very funny too. I wouldn't say it was a book for everyone. I know some people who get very irritated by Seinfeld's superficial style of humour. The book is divided up into subject sections (material about love, about cars, about jobs, etc), and each of Jerry's anecdotes are well spaced out, making it very easy to read. You can read an anecdote from one section, then flick through and to another one, whenever you like. It's one of those books you can pick up at anytime and dip into, the sort of book that's nice to have on a coffee table. I'd recommend this for fans of Seinfeld and those who are looking for a light hearted read before bed.
Rating: Summary: Amusing, but not the same without hearing it from Jerry Review: This brief book is very similar to "Pure Drivel" from Steve Martin; brief throwaway bits which range from philosophical musings to pure nonsense, and all of it is funny when delivered by the brilliant stand-up comedian. Seinfield is a tremendous comedian, and he was great on his TV show for a decade. This book offers the same kind of material, and as he says in the proglogue, you, the reader, are responsible for making the material come alive. But it doesn't without him. Seinfield diehards will treasure it, but I'm not sure he'll win over any new fans with this stuff--they're won over with his classic delivery.
Rating: Summary: The Funniest!! Review: If you like Seinfeld, you'll love this book! The book reads like one stand-up act after another. The book is true more to the pre and post show stand-up skits that Seinfeld does rather than the show. I just could not stop laughing while reading it.
Rating: Summary: Classic Jerry.... Review: ...with his classic bits. I have reread it many times, ands it is great stuff. Not much more I can say...if you like Seinfeld's stuff, just read the book.
Rating: Summary: Ah Jerry we miss you so Review: How many years has it been since the final episode of Seinfeld? Luckily there's repeats in syndication for us diehard fans. Fortunately, also, his legacy lives on in his book Seinlanguage. A little book of his preshow monologues assorted with stand up routines and various other musings from his harrowing i mean hilarious mind. My sign language for this little gem is two thuBsmbs up.
Rating: Summary: Gentry Thompson Review: Jerry's subtle, yet explosive observation of the most obvious, mundane things in our lives I trully to heart. What good is life if we can't step back and laugh out ourselves! Thanks Jerry....thanks for the laughs.....AND KEEP THEM COMING! Gentry
Rating: Summary: A Sein of Our Times Review: "NO SOUP FOR YOU!" "Ya-da ya-da ya-da" "Poppy was a little sloppy" "If we pick do we not bleed!" "Thank God I took off my heels and put on my himalayan walking shoes!" Who could forget the hysterical comedy of a show so simple it becomes complex. The man behind it all does not disappoint us with this culmination of all things extraordinarily ordinary. A great book not only for the Seinfield Fan, but for the fan of stand-up in general. It only takes a few pages to get hooked into the writing. Although I do agree that stand-up is meant to be performed, it doesn't take much for your imagination to bring it to life. I definitely recommend Seinlanguage.
Rating: Summary: funny observations Review: What can I say? If you like Seinfeld, you'll like this book. His observations are witty and point out the absurdities in our culture. True, a lot of this material has been done on his show. But if you're like me and don't get a chance to catch it in syndication, most of this is a pleasure revisited. Other recently enjoyed books - NO ONE'S EVEN BLEEDING and DELANO
Rating: Summary: Get the DVD Review: I am a Seinfeld fan but I do not find the jokes in the book funny. And you know why? Because what makes it really funny is the delivery! I rent out the DVD of his Broadway farewell performance and he was delivering the same jokes in the book and they were insanely hysterical! Stand-up is meant to be heard not read.
