Rating: Summary: Hilarious Review: I was reluctant to read this book, because I was never a huge fan of the show Seinfeld. The reason I did read it was because the one part of the show I did like was the bits of Jerry Seinfeld doing stand up. As others have said, this book appears to be a whole bunch of different stories and monologues about life that Seinfeld's taken from his stand up material. The book is very funny. Seinfeld has a gift for observation. He sees the absurdity in life and has a terrific way of finding the humor in it. The man has a way with words, as well. The book is articulate, insightful, and ironic. I could hear his voice as I read it. What makes this book such a high rating is the fact that I found it as funny the fifth time I read it as the first, which is a rarity in a humor book. If you haven't already read this book, I highly reccommend it!
Rating: Summary: Easy, Quick, True Comedy Review: Jerry Seinfeld has to be one of the funniest comedians in the world. His hit show Seinfeld is off the air, but if you still want to catch some of his silly humor, check out this book. Since he was fifteen he has been writing down silly thoughts that came to mind. Now he collected all of his abstract writings and put them in a book. This book is very easy to read. The pages contain short little stories that happen to everybody throughout life and he adds his quick little humourous comments. A lot of it is straight from the show. At times I found myself laughing out loud. This book is basically in the setup as if Seinfeld was on stage doing a comedy bit for you. I found this book a humorous buy and went through it in two days.
Rating: Summary: Seinfeld is the best at making the everyday funny Review: Some people have stated that the long-running Seinfeld sitcom was a show about nothing. Which is probably true, but largely irrelevant. A large amount of very good comedy is based on the incongruity of everyday events, which to some people is nothing. Seinfeld continues in this mode with the short vignettes in this book. The stories vary from the problems of finding a parking spot in New York City to the absurdity of professional wrestling. Each is funny and demonstrates Seinfeld at his comedic best. He is the best at taking the everyday things of life and making them funny. I urge you to read and enjoy.
Rating: Summary: "Two thumbs up!" - Siskel & Ebert Review: Diddja ever notice how Siskel & Ebert never gave the "One thumb up!"? That's odd, cause when I see someone, I never give him the TWO thumbs up at once, I mean, what will the guy think? One thumb is quite enough, don't you think? Let's stick to the review though... I am a huge Seinfeld fan (that's rare for a French Canadian!) and I read pretty much everything on Seinfeld-related topics. "SeinLanguage", a collection of Seinfeld's stand-up bits, has become my own little bible. Honnest! Jerry is a very talented stand-up comedian and I literaly fell in love with his way of analyzing life's excrutiating minuatiae. He is very impressive. So, if it rains out there or if you're away and you miss someone, I strongly believe that "SeinLanguage" is the book to get a bright smile back on your face! Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Laugh-out-loud Review: There's is something truly unique about this book. I think it's the fact that it has the capability to make you laugh out loud. Speaking as someone who adores comedy in all forms (Seinfeld being one of these forms) this book is really pretty incredible. At first glance, I admit, it doesn't look like much. You figure that it's going to be full of jokes you've heard hundreds of times on the TV shows. Although this is partially true (some of the jokes ARE from the TV series), there's is much more to this book than meets the eye. First of all, it is truly laugh-out-loud funny. I received this book as a gift for Christmas and I read the whole thing that same morning. I sat in an easy chair in my living room and read and read and read. Not only that, I laughed and laughed and laughed. Which is something I never do when reading. Watching films, yes. Talking with friends, yes. But reading? Who laughs when their reading? Me, apparently. I'm actually a little afraid to take this book out in public with me because I'm afraid I'll start giggling uncontrollably and people will think I'm off my rocker. So BEWARE. Read this book in the safety of your own home. Because trust me, you won't be able to keep from laughing.
Rating: Summary: Easy reading, but probably for fans only Review: I received this book in hard cover format as a gift, being a fan of the show and stand up performances, and enjoyed it tremendously. That having been said, it is a not much more than a light reading experience, and at under 200 pages (mostly lightly filled) is little more than a mirror of his most well known material. Fans like myself will not be disappointed, but this is not an insightful expose of what makes Jerry tick, and moreover is really just selling ice to eskimos. Good fun, but don't expect too much
Rating: Summary: Not enough, Review: I read SeinLanguage a few years after the show was over. I was a big fan of Seinfeld and I often watch the reruns. My following of Seinfeld eventually led me to tapes of his standup act. After watching the show and listening to his standup act, reading SeinLanguage was a bit redundant. The reader will not find very much new material in this book. Most of the jokes come from his standup act, which inspired scenarios in the TV show. The jokes are funny and I always laugh, but I picked up this book hoping for an insight into Jerry Seinfeld's life. All I found was a series of jokes about different topics, most of which I had already heard. I think you can probably pass this one up.
Rating: Summary: If you've seen the shows, you've heard it all before... Review: ...but that doesn't make it any less hilarious or TRUE! These are Jerry Seinfeld's observations about life including things both big and small. His views are extremely funny such as on homophobia: "guys are a little afraid of homosexuals because they know that if they by accident went into a gay store that they could be talked into anything." Most of the observations will serve as repeated information for anyone who has seen every episode of Seinfeld. Many of the quips in this book turned into the monologues in the beginning of each Seinfeld episode. Nevertheless, this is a quick and fun read that will never be outdated because of it's extremely funny subject matter. JERRY, PLEASE RELEASE THE SHOWS ON DVD BY SEASON!! Recommended.
Rating: Summary: Any Seinfeld fan can't go wrong. Review: This book contains much of Jerry's stand-up acts, and most of which have been used during the beginning and end of the episodes of his sitcom series. Written or not said through his mouth, this humor is still great. Whenever I read these entries I can imagine it all being said from his voice. Remember that humor has sustained as a people for the past 5000 years.
Rating: Summary: Awful, awful, awful. Review: Anyone who had any doubts about the longevity of Seinfeld's initial schtick will be clearly vindicated by the contents of this book. This awful, awful book. This book is what happens when a limited, one-dimensional gimmick is singlehandedly responsible for the fame of a given celebrity. It is a case study in trendy humor. Barely above the level of "you ought to be a redneck if..", Jerry's observational "didja ever notice.." formula becomes scathingy obvious af ter the the first ten pages. Not only can you start predicting how every joke will end for the remaining 95% of the book, the experience is even more excruciating when you start hearing his whiny voice in your head. This book is clearly for pop culture historians or Seinfeld fanatics _only_. Just look at what readers who like the book recommend. I mean, in the words of its irritating author, "Who ARE these People?"
