Summary: The Few Who Survive!!!!
Review: An excellent read, Very hard to put down this book which jumps around but seems to grab your attention and hold you in antisipation on what these crazy guys do next!It is hard to believe that they have lived through this stuff and can actually still be able to complete a whole sentence!!

Summary: Best Rock Star Book EVER

Summary: It won't change your life, but it'll make you laugh
Review: I'll be honest - I've never thought much of Motley Crue. Although I'm sure Nikki Sixx would beg to differ, they were a mainstream metal/rock act, something I've never really gone for. They lacked energy and ability to my tastes.

However, when their hedonistic, frantic and often sad lives are put on paper it is hard to ignore them. True, they are self-pitying, selfish, spoilt rock stars who used women for sex and jokes and showed no gratitude to the men who worked hard for them to tour and record, but (aside from the fact that that's why this is such addictive reading) you do warm to them. And when one reads of the problems they dealt with in their lives, you do feel a great sense of sympathy.

It's also obvious (to me at least) that they are all very repentent of the worst things they did. Well, maybe not, but this is still fun to read. If you're expecting the new Shakespeare, look somewhere else. If you just want fun, then buy this book regardless of whether or not you like the band.

Summary: "Sooo, you want to read about Motley Crue do you?"
Review: I still remember purchasing this at my local book store. When I handed the book to the old man at the counter he gave me a disapproving look and then said "Sooo, you want to read about Motley Crue do you?" It was like he was trying to guilt me out of buying it or something.

Oh, and I have a confession to make: This was basically my introduction to Motley Crue. I'm kind of music junkie and love reading about different bands. I'd heard songs like "Home Sweet Home" and "Dr. Feel Good" on the radio, but hadn't paid too much attention to the band until I'd heard about their book. After reading several reviews off this site I decided it was worth checking out.

Let me tell you, this book is worth the money. It's probably best rock bio I've ever read. Even if you don't like Motley Crue I'd recommend it. There were so many times when I just laughed out loud or gasped in shock. The story is basically told through the band members, with each writing their chapters from their own perspective. It's great to see the same story told through different eyes.

I ripped through this book pretty quickly to. It's one of the better written rock bios (though it doesn't hurt that it has some of the best rock stories either).

Anyway, what I guess I'm trying to say with all of this is that if you're into reading about rock music, I highly recommend you pick up a copy of The Dirt.

Summary: The Human Stain
Review: It's interesting to note, when reading other reviews of this book, that almost all who have reviewed it have given it the full 5 stars.

The reason, I think, for this is the brutal honesty of the writing. The author has shown great intelligence in looking at the history from the individual viewpoint of each band-member and taken that viewpoint to gain an honesty that would probably be missing where this taken collectively and it's this honesty of this story which makes the book virtually unputdownable (I read cover to cover in the time it took to fly from London to Melbourne...and it seemed a fraction of the time). Full credit to the author.

The material itself is shocking. These men have lived up to their rock star reputations and then some. Some of the things these people got up to, and to a certain extent got away with is simply incredible. Nikki, Vince and Tommy-Lee should have killed themselves twice over from drugs or AIDS but have somehow managed to come through it.

The reality of the piece is the sorry tale of Vince's daughter and his open-hearted honesty is a revelation of this man's soul.

Anyone with the remotest interest in the nature of man should read this book, it's worth the effort.

Summary: great book
Review: Although I have not finished reading it, it is already the best book I have ever taken the time to read. I cannot put the book down. I am a huge fan of Motley Crue, so I'd probably enjoy it if it sucked, but even if you don't like the band, it is a very powerful and entertaining book. It follows the complete history of the band, told by the four members and a few others. It tells their comlete story including Vince Neil's accident that killed one of his best freinds, Nikki's troubled childhood, and the drug binges and partying that ensued. Overall, it is a great book that every heavy metal fan should read.

Summary: A great read!!!!
Review: I've always been a Crue fan since I was 10,but lost interest after they fired Vince,or when he quit, whatever. But if you want to read about a decadent band that really rocks, pick this book. It's brutally honest. The chapter that got the most of me is when Vince talked about his daughter's death, since I am a father of a little girl as well. Very poignant stuff!!! I just wish that the original KISS memebers put out a book like this.

Summary: Oh man... dirty.
Review: This book is wild. I was always a Van Halen fan as a kid, so I wasn't too into Motley Crue to be honest, but this book was so cool. The lives of that band and some of the stories are insane. Looking for something to gawk at? Wanna see what it's like to rock out with the Cure? Read this!
