Rating: Summary: And these guys lived to tell about it?! Review: What an AWESOME book! Believe me when I say that you won't be able to put this one down... Impossible. I knew I had to read "this" book after seeing their VH1 special. I've laughed out loud a bunch of times while reading about their lewd descriptions, rememberances of previous events, day to day existance with one another & just being a rough & rowdy band. It's one of those books that you wish would go on and on and on... Check it out - TRUST ME, YOU'LL LOVE IT! CAUTION: NOT FOR THE MEEK AND MILD AND TENDER HEARTED.
Rating: Summary: A reminder of why guys pick up guitars in the first place. Review: I'm not the biggest metalhead out there...that '80's "hair band" scene really didn't do much for me, though I do own 2 Crue CD's. But the great thing about this book is that you don't have to appreciate Motley Crue's music (or anyone else's, really) to be completely blown away by the full frontal assault on the senses that these guys have felt the need to relay our way. > It is an amazing look at the runaway train that was arguably the best heavy metal band of the 1980's. The successes, the excesses, and the incalculable Faustian prices paid by each bandmate for them. At times hilarious, shocking, and heartbreaking, the Crue come off as more than the mindless hedonists they were always (if not completely inaccurately) portrayed as being on MTV and the various music publications of yore; they allow their personalities to flow off the pages and as a result you start to see their respective individual characteristics and wonder how they were able to play together for so long without killing each other, if not themselves. > In short, if you enjoyed the Led Zeppelin biography "Hammer of the Gods", this one will take the shock factor up a notch or two...I read most of it on a plane flight from Atlanta to Salt Lake City and back...it's a total page-turner, and a monument to what heavy metal music is, was, and will always be about.
Rating: Summary: The Dirt: Gritty, Honest & Awesome!! Review: Wow!! I didn't want to put this book down! I've always been a Motley Crue fan...but this book regenerated my love for this band all over again! I would be reading and the chapter would end, and it would actually depress me a little. Then I would start the next chapter and get 'into' that one and not want it to end. There is not anything bad to say about this book, at least not as far as I am concerned. I look forward to a sequel.
Rating: Summary: Nice and nasty ! Review: This book will be as shocking and trashy as you expect, well worth the money ! The author was obviously not afraid to edit what the Crue wanted to say !
Rating: Summary: The Dirt Review: I felt that this book was very good, one of the best I have read. It could be the fact that I have been in many rock bands and can see how some of these stories may have taken place while being on the road far away from home. It kept me reading and focused and entertained throughout the whole book. Some nights I would keep reading till I had to force myself to put the book down and go to sleep for work the next day.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books of the year!!! Review: First of all, I am not a Motley Crue fan and have never been one. I can't even name a song. But of course, being an avid watcher of VH1 and E!, etc. I know the members and some of their "history". The book sounded interesting so I bought a copy and sat down one night to read. Wow! I really had a difficult time putting it down. These guys are really, really out of their minds! I can't say how impressed I am by their candor. No matter what they did, they are more than willing to take responsibility for it. They give a whole new meaning to out-of-control. The writing was humorous, witty, engaging, thoughtful and emotional. So emotional at times that it was heart wrenching when Vince describes the death of his daughter, Skylar. I got so choked up! These guys get so many kudos for being embarassingly honest about their roots, behavior and image. Most stars would never be so willing to call themselves a nerd or an a--hole. Reading about how they came together and reached the peak, then toppled was truly fascinating. So many stories about celebrity interactions are also mixed in, which was great! I always suspected that Pamela was no good. Also enjoyed the chapters from the managers, former managers, etc. Very interesting to get a different version of the same story recounted in others' chapters. I do admit that I learned some new things about the female anatomy which I could have done without but that just adds to the story. This book really is a celebration of talent and where it can take you if you are willing to give it your all. It is really a shame that these talented guys got sucked in to a decadent lifestyle of booze, drugs and women that it ultimately affected their talent. They can count me as a fan albeit a late one.
Rating: Summary: Raw, Uncensored, and Real.... Review: This book is an entertaining read. All chapters written by Vince, Nikki, Tommy, and Mick. Also some pages penned by their managers, and record execs. You will find this book to your liking even if your not a Motley Crue fan. It will show you the extremes in the life of a rock star. A life we will never know, but seem to understand and taste through the words they write.
Rating: Summary: Motley shocks the world! Review: Once you start reading this book, you will not be able to put it down. Tells you just about everything you wanted to know about the Crue. Their lives have ALWAYS had tons of drama and never a boring minute. Their music is great and their stories are even better. I am glad to have gotten an inside look at Mick. I never really knew what that man was about. Now, we just need a movie!
Rating: Summary: Who knew big hair metal gods could write? Review: I was riveted by the honesty of this book. It was both poignant and gritty, sometimes so pathetic, it became difficult to read on, but like a car wreck that you pass on the highway, you are compelled to look. I commend the boys for putting out their dirty laundry for all of us to see. More celebrities should be so forthcoming.
Rating: Summary: True Shocker Review: I stumbled upon this book recently and started reading it 3 days ago, I haven't been able to put it down since. For those that didn't grow up listening to the raw distortion of Motley Crue's music, this book will horrify you...to those that did, it will also horrify you! The book is very well put together and provides the most revealing incite into one of rocks most pioneering outfits. Despite listening to these guys as a teenager and admiring the many pics of them in mags such as Kerrang! and Sounds, I had no idea that four human beings could be quite so depraved, stupid and helpless. It's gripping stuff....god help them!!!!!!
