Rating: Summary: Lone Star Winner! Review: As you can see, this is the only book I have yet to give only one star. But like Texas, its one BIG star for one BIG hick trip. What this book almost foresees is what happened with this election: the media, in their public-driven hyperactivity, certified Bush on election night before the race was definitively won. Then when it turned out that a closer tally may put his rival ahead, all the Repub's panic and try to stop the count. I guess they forget that we live in a democracy, not in some corrupted third-world hot-pot. What this book doesn't say is that Bush's bro Jeb, governor of Florida, as well as Catherine Harris, that brilliant non-partisan judge of things, really are nice people behind all the miasma. And as far as the chapter about Bush avoiding answering Gore in the third debate by looking for help from the mediator, I think it states perfectly how a man ought to be able to defend his positions if he is going to be President. "Welcome to the circus. Hear ye hear ye" states page 36, "on the right we have the folks bread on Bush and Reagan, where politics are all glittering generalities and butterin' up the backwater! On the left we have those over-brainy intellectual democrats, and all as they do is bicker and never get anything done. Forget about the environment for progeny. Forget about the black, the poor, the blind. Forget about reality. Forget about the future of this great nation! The big top is the spin-doctor's spoil!" Enjoy this book countrymen, its a kick of the ole spurs! You'll be laughing all the way to the white house, I'm sure!
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Biography! Review: I was extremely pleased with George W. Bush's biography. It showed me parts of his life that really make me believe he is a "compassionate conservative." I am glad I voted for him and sincerely hope he wins the election, because judging from his life story described in detail in this life, I believe he has everything it takes and much more to lead this country for the next four years.
Rating: Summary: "Our Best Leaders Are Those Who Believe In The People!" Review: "A Charge to Keep," is a splendid book providing insight into one of our nation's best leaders, George W. Bush. Although critics have pan this book by saying one cannot really apprehend how Bush would actually run the country. This is actually a good trait in most of our successful presidents. No president can predict what will happen during his presidency. They must adjust to crisis and popular proposals of the times. The important thing is that a president appoints competent, capable and honorable people who can be trusted with the delegation of authority. Any person asserting they have solutions for every problem is an outright liar or demagogue promising everything to everyone. George W. Bush is smart enough to know the demands of a true presidency starts with principle and proficiency in office. In the book, the author courageously admits to erratum's of his youth. Bush preaches to others to learn from his wayward experiences. More suitable, George W. practices how we all can recover from anything by asking for true forgiveness with sincere repentant actions and not just feigning words for public sympathy. "A Charge to Keep." is not just a revelation but a commitment to broad based ideals of individual responsibility, protections of personal freedoms and belief in the goodness of the American people. All of the book's content is expressed in an optimistic tone. Carefully crafted critics have said George W. Bush is an intellectual lightweight. They overlook that Bush got better grades at Yale than his opponent. Bush did not flunk out of Divinity Graduate school or drop out of Law school but graduated with a Harvard MBA. And few people are permitted to master the skills to fly a $40 million Jet Fighter such as Bush. Additionally, Bush was able to bring Democrats and Republicans together to pass compromised real legislation for the people of Texas. This shows he has the smarts and experience to be a Chief Executive. Moreover, there can be no doubt about the influence his father and mother had on him. Under George W. Bush there has never been any scandals. Virtue is inbred into the Bush's Family Dynasty as opposed to the personal problems that beset the Kennedy clan. The claims our Supreme Court will be stocked with ultra conservatives flies into the face of reality. The fact is Nixon, Reagan and Bush have appointed 7 of the 9 Justices and still the court is a moderate court not right or left leaning. Bush rightly points out this is what happens when you have no litmus tests for Judges. When you appoint good men of honor who are judges the rest takes care of itself. After reading this book, I came away not being worried about all the scare tactics being put out by all groups fearing a Bush presidency. The fact is no man runs for the presidency to hurt people. George W. Bush is comparable to all leaders who have the sincere intention to help all. George W. Bush Was elected two times by Democrats and Republicans to governor of Texas by large margins, "A Charge To Keep," reflects what we can expect from him as president. I highly recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: Keep This Charge! Review: This book tells the story of George W Bush, not from an ignorant source, but from the man himself. Reading this book has given me an even greater insight to a man that I greatly admire. You learn in this book where his values come from and what his life was like growing up. Ironically, though his family had money, George did not grow up in limos and with the upperclass. He grew up in middle class neighborhoods playing baseball with the neighborhood boys where the mothers would all yell for the boys to come in for dinner. The Bush family did not drive limos and beemers, but a Volkswagon. Some of the stories told in this book are incredibly touching. Some of the stories were simply humorous and some sweet. George lost his younger sister to Leukimea when he was 6 and she was four. He recalls the time around this death as a very sad time for his family and himself. However weeks later at a baseball game he was able to make the situation better by mentioning how she had a better view of the game than they did. If you are interested in learning more about President Elect Bush, whether you see him favorably or unfavorably, then I recommend this book. He may shock you with his words.
Rating: Summary: Keeping the Faith Review: It's not easy to be republican in this era of soft liberal politicing but it's books like this that provide some stamina to old conservative warhorses like myself. The charge of the liberal media is that Bush lacks a detailed vision for this country. Not surprisingly, they obviously haven't read this book. This book details Bush's aspirations and specific plans for this nation. Highly recommended
Rating: Summary: A Charge to Keep Review: I bought this book because I wanted to learn more about this man who might become president. As an elementary teacher, I found his ideas about education very inspiring. "Leave no child behind." I found the book easy to read but full of information about George W. Bush as a man, a father, a husband, a son, and a leader.
Rating: Summary: A Charge to Keep Review: When, I bought this book, I must admit that I really did not know who George W. Bush was. But as I started reading it I found out that George W. is a man that I have a great deal of respect for. He has a unique way of telling his story. He made me feel like I was there as the events were taking place. As a result I did not want to stop reading the book. This is a great book to read for anyone who wants to learn more about the Texas Governor. I strongly recommend this book to other regardless of there interest or lack of interest in politics.
Rating: Summary: A Man With Heart Writing From The Heart... Review: is the best way to capsulize this book. In it, Governor Bush speaks of the long and often difficult journey he made to get where he is today. What strikes me most is the honesty with which he approaches each part of his life and the way the book is written is just like you are sitting down having a one on one with him. From some very heart-wrenching decisions he had to make as Governor, to what he calls the "best decision of my life" which was to marry his lovely wife Laura, you get the feeling straight-on that this is a man who genuinely loves people and public service and will bring a richly woven tapestry of integrity, honor, loyalty, duty, and service to any job he undertakes. This book catalogues a young man "coming of age" and into a date with destiny. We're proud to call him "W" here in Texas. ...
Rating: Summary: And Yet People Continue To Support This Man Review: Karen Hughs, Bush's ghostwriter, produced this tome in order to boost her employer's image. George W. Bush, however, is so lacking in intellectual curiosity and personal achievement that the best she could come up with is this vapid, ineffective screed. Hughs has managed only to conclusively prove that George W. Bush is nothing more than an empty suit living off his daddy's name. To the already converted, though, this does not matter, and they still line up to support Bush's quixotic quest for the presidency. This is a book for the gullible. Anyone with a genuine interest in who George W. Bush really is would be better served by reading Arthur Frederick Ide or Molly Ivens' biographies.
Rating: Summary: No child left behind Review: George W. illustrates to the reader how real the American Dream truly is. A beautiful synoposis of the Governor's life and his view on current issues. I really enjoyed reading it. I was inspired by this book and I am a college student. I am a Bush supporter now more than I ever was. And I am somewhat the expert in Politics.
