Rating: Summary: A President In The Making! Review: I encourage everyone to read this book with a open mind. I ask also to keep in mind that this is not meant to be a great epic, it is about a political personality. I think is states his beliefs and deep faith. All fathers in the world would love to have the kind of relationship shared between this pair. I know alot of people feels that he is not a true president but if you truely read this book with a open mind, you can understand why he is the right man for the job now!!
Rating: Summary: Haha, great exposure of a real clown Review: This book shows what a bumbling clown the laughable Bush is. Unbelievably dumb! No wonder most people around the world laugh at the kind of leaders the u.s. has. hopefully, at some point, they'll make a film of it! or else, perhaps a Saturday night live skit
Rating: Summary: Excellent look into the mind of the President Review: I read the other reviews and thought I should post my own. One review griped about the "shallowness" of the book. Come on, He isn't William Faulkner. It was a completely readable and enjoyable book. I was wavering on whether to vote for him or not last year (I would have chosen a third party candidate) until I read this book. I saw a man that has strong convictions. He is not influenced solely by the opinion polls. He will do our nation proud as its president. I am glad that I read this book and have been his supporter. I will continue to do so.
Rating: Summary: At this Time Review: Let us hope and pray before God almighty at this time when we need a strong and intelligent leader that this is simply the poorly written work of Karen Hughes. This book makes Bush come off as shallow, an air-head, and as little more than a cheerleader. This is embarrassing! ...utterly filled with childish prattle that leads the reader to feel that he or she is being read down to. As a well-read reader of the Bush family and W's life I found this book insulting. The following example will suffice:One night, Laura and I were out of town camping, and Barbara and Jenna spent the night at the vice presidential mansion. Dad had spent the day preparing for a debate with Michael Dukakis. Unfortunately, Barbara lost her sleeping companion, Spikey, her favorite stuffed dog. She complained loudly that she could not sleep without Spikey, so "Gampy," better known as Vice President Bush, spent much of the night before his debate searching the house and grounds of the vice presidential residence, flashlight in hand, on a mission to find Spikey. Finally, he did, and Barbara slept soundly. I don't know if dad ever went to sleep that night. (179) Oh! Jeeminy wilikers! And it's that way through two hundred forty three pages! Does anyone really believe that Barbara Bush is so self-absorbed that she would be more concerned about her stuffed dog than about the fact that her husband has a major presidential debate coming up? It's enough to make anyone with more than a third grade education vomit!
Rating: Summary: The man who will fight the first war of the 21st Century. Review: This is being written two days after the World Trade Center/Pentagon attacks. It behooves every American to become familiar with the man who will fight the first war of the Twenty-First Century. We need to rally around our President and give him support. This book lets us see his soul--his wild days sewing wild seeds, his days in oil, his days in baseball, and finally his days in politics and his days as a reborn Christian. The title of the book comes from that old hymn, "A Charge to Keep I Have," written by Charles Wesley. He candidly admits he had wild days in the book, but he has become reborn in Christ. Definitely not a Bible thumper, his faith permeates all he does. Notice the Bible verses in his addresses. President Bush is not a systematic philosopher, like Hobbes, Locke, or Aquinas. He is however, one of the common men with common sense like President Reagan who had an understanding of men and the way the world works. Here and there you discovere great one-lines that capture his thought-gems. He is not only a man of principle, but a man of principles and precepts. I only wish we had the complete transcripts of his speeches, but that is a book for another day, eight years away. We have stern days ahead of us. This book acquaints us with the man, his philosophy and his faith, which will win the battles we have to fight.
Rating: Summary: A Charge To Keep Review: I was raised in a family facinated by American politics. I have long admired the Bush family. They continue to hold their heads up high, and not be draged down by the ungruly press. I loved reading the first hand account of this President. He is a person, with flaws, but able to admit them. More importantly He is a man with character, depth, and sensitivity. I loved reading this book!!
Rating: Summary: Worst and most boring book read in 45 years Review: This book clearly was not written by G Bush. Bush never has had anything published in his life. This book was written by the misleading propagandist Karen Hughes, and perhaps a ghost writer. Bush certainly had nothing to do with writing this book. It is filled with fluff, lies, false claims, distortions, and anyone with an IQ over 50 could see through the obvious lies. This book was only written because Bush needed something to offset the accurate perception by most smart Americans that he is not very smart, which he isn't. This book will end up on the bottom of my bird cage, appropriately placed for the final resting place for my bird's droppings.
Rating: Summary: If dubya actually wrote this book... Review: ...it would be more like "See W Run. See W Raise Taxes. See W get high. See W Lie." Go read some thing like molly ivans' book or George W Bushisms or Is Our Children Learning? HAIL TO THE THEIF!!! RE-ELECT GORE 2004! NOT MY PRESIDENT!!!
Rating: Summary: Perhaps I should check out what Molly has to say Review: W's autobiography leading into the 2000 presidential election. Good insight into Bush's heart and I like him a lot better now (I voted for Gore), but I was never sure what I could believe. At times it seemed like the book was one big endorsement for his campaign. Additionally, I didn't take much from the biography as far as lessons about life go; Bush was good at bouncing around randomly from various events in his life.
Rating: Summary: It's good to have a real president again! Review: This is a great book and as of this writing is one of the few that does not come from a liberal point of view, like Molly Ivins liberal diatribe Shrubya. This an excellent book from the man himself in his own words. Two of my favorite chapters were the ones dealing with his faith and how he came to know Jesus as his savior. It goes into great detail how his life as well as Laura's was changed by God's love. The other interesting chapter was the one dealing with capital punishment. Thanks to late night television, the stereotype is that Bush fries anything that moves, but in this chapter we learn how he dealt with two important cases involving Karla Faye Tucker and another man who claimed to have killed 600 people. We know that despite Tucker's changed life and many pleas from Pat Robertson to Amnesty International that she was put to death. We learn the emotions that Bush went through and how courageos he was in making his decision. In another case not as publicized by an often times left leaning media, Bush decided to grant Clemency to a man who claimed to have killed over 600 people, including an unidentified woman known only as "Orange Socks." Upon further investigation the murderer's claims were deemed erroneous and in the "Orange Socks" case it was determined that he was not even in the same town. With this new evidence then Governor Bush decided to have him serve life, but no death penalty. The Texas media was critical of his decision for granting Clemency to one, and the media was and still is critical for not granting Clemency to others. I thought it was an insightful read into how Bush dealt with this lose-lose situation. Some other high points include his tales of his grandfather Prescott Bush, whom little is written about, and how he ran for various offices. Overall this an excellent book and is must read for any Bush supporter or even to an open minded liberal (Is there a such a thing?)
