Rating: Summary: Reparations? Review: Reparations for the wrongs done to Blacks from slavery has been a hot topic. After reading Shakedown, I realize that what the current "so-called" leaders of the Black community have done to their own community is really worse than slavery. The Civil Rights Movement has been won. The laws are in place so that Blacks have an equal chance at the "American Dream." The problem is that leaders like Jesse Jackson keep saying painting a different picture. What did he ever do for the poor? Very little. He is only interested in enriching himself, his family, and friends.
Rating: Summary: White or Black: Wrong is Wrong Review: Jessie Jackson has strived to be accepted as an opinion leader in our contemporary society. Should he not expect that his actions will have been chronicled and historical observations made? While the author does interject commentary, the root of the book is a compilation of public data. Jessie proves himself to be the same man, who, in the time of the African slavery trade to America, stood on the African shore and sold his black brothers to the white man. Jessie's mantra must be: "It's all about ME!" Read the book. It shows you the man.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Information - Dry Presentation Review: Shakedown is an excellent compliation of the real facts of "Rev." Jackson's life. The author explores all pertient information about his youth, the "gang" connections, and Jackson's troubling falsifications regarding his role in Dr. M.L. King's organization. I think the information I found most disturbing was Timmerman's accounts of Jacksons business dealing in Africa, which were made in cooperation with leaders responsible for the mutilation of young children and repression that borders on true slavery of large portions of the population of Sierra Leone and Liberia -- truly, the biggest upreported scndal of the Clinton Era. Since the media has annointed Jackson as the spokesman for the black community, this book is essential reading for anybody intertested in current events. Fortunately, a new black leader gives me hope by sponsoring a "Day of Repudiation of Jessie Jackson". The only reason this is not five stars is that it is dry reading and a little hard to follow. However, it is worth the extra effort if you want the full truth.
Rating: Summary: The dude do get over Review: The author has previously written for such unusally reliable sources as Time, Newsweek, and the Wall Street Journal, among others. There are 1,078 references in this book in 426 pages of text covering an introduction, a prologue, and 18 chapters. The references are from such sources as memoranda and reports from U.S. government agencies, the New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, The Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, and the New Republic, to name only a few. The author, therefore, cannot be dismissed as some sort of right wing crackpot. What Timmerman does is document Jackson's unashamed schemes to line his own pockets and those of his friends and family in the name of racial diversity, economic opportunity, and other buzzwords popular with income redistribution leftists. But Jesse is the quintessential capitalist. He doesn't do anything he can't get paid for, to include NOT speaking up in favor of minority groups who have sought his assistance in the past but didn't have the money to pay his fee! SHAKEDOWN is an appropriate title for this work, as Jackson has managed to get governments and businesses to pony up for his schemes in order to keep from being branded as racist by Jackson. This book could have been subtitled "Show Me the Money!" He has definitely helped himself, and made himself rich in the process. Whether he has helped others is truly open to question, as the author has convincingly documented.
Rating: Summary: I could write the same meaningless reviews for a Bush book Review: If someone writes a negative book on Bush, look how easy it is to take one of the 5 star reviews here and just replace the references to Jackson with Bush:"What an eye opener! This books seems to be very factual. The events and circumstances surrounding the George W Bush, excuse me so called President Bush, are appalling. This book shows a sad fact in America today. That the corporations, the press and even the average white person are petrified by the thought of being accused of Anti-Americanism against the man who was our president on 9/11. And George Bush has taken full advantage of that to enrich himself and his family. This book is a must read for anyone who would like to see some of the details of the stories we have been seeing on the news. Adding credibility, in my opinion, to the facts presented in this book is the fact that this book has been reviewed on many news programs and talk shows and Bush has refused to make any appearances rebutting the facts. Those that have attempted to defend him on these shows have reverted to pointing out the good he has done (I'm sure there are good things). This book presents information on the bad things he has done, with indepth information that does not appear on the evening news. This will not be the last book I read on the subject but I feel that it is a very important book for anyone to read that is interested in the man, the history and the smoke screen that Bush has created." Isn't that neat? Next time someone does a hatchet job on a conservative, I'll just come here and grab a 5 star review and do some minor editing and paste it into the Bush reviews.
Rating: Summary: Timmerman probably has an agenda Review: In this book, Kenneth Timmerman appears to be a biased writer. The fact that he has written for some of the most right-wing media should give the reader a clue where he is coming from. I would suggest you do your own very careful homework while reading SHAKEDOWN.
Rating: Summary: Tillerman wrote for TIME, so this must be the truth. Review: Timmerman is a journalist who has worked for Time and Newsweek and has appeared on cable tv, so I believe every word he says. What he presents as facts, such as Jackson's lies about his relationship with Martin Luther King, and his weekend sleepovers at Arafat's tent, and his nasty heroin addiction and wild robbery sprees, cannot be refuted. It's all there in black and white, by an experienced journalist whose words must be taken at face value as the undeniable truth. He meticulously presents his evidence - quotes from sources that I know are telling the truth, and memos which I know are culled from actual memos written by the villain Jackson himself. I know these things are all true because Tillerman is a journalist and journalists always tell us the facts and never mislead us. Thank you Mr. Tillerman, for warning the world about this most dangerous public figure in America.
Rating: Summary: Great-Jesse learned to play the white mans game Review: If this book has any truth (which I seriously doubt) then all it proves is that Jesse learned to play the game that the white man and every white politician has been playing since the days of George Washington(lobbying for both personal favorites and under the table envelope exchanges packed with crisp hundred dollar bills). So go beat down their doors. Most of you other reviewers are such bigots- hey get over it ! What did you think- he was gonna be this foolish little Black man that put his life on the line all these years and end up being just another broke Black man in America in the end with nothing to show for his work- (hog wash bull puke)Think again-nobody does anything for free !plus we got too many broke Black men in America now- we don't need anymore broke ones. Jesse deserves every 15 room mansion he can get his hands on and every Bentley and Rolls Azure he can drive. I happen to be a well known politician myself here in D.C. AND THAT'S POLITICS FOLKS- So get over your bigotry !
Rating: Summary: Now I understand how blackmail can be profitable. Review: What a jerk!! Every person should read this book especially African/Americans to see how he has created the split in the races to help him with his causes...which are only to help him, his family and friends become multi-millionaires. Someone in the Black community needs to go public and tell the world that he doesn't speak for them and expose him for what he is. He could have used the money to help the needy but he isn't interested in the needy. He has blackmailed major corporations by using race. That creates more splits between the races. I hope this is the beginning of the end of Jesse's empire.
Rating: Summary: The Cat is Out of the Bag.... Review: Finally, the man David Horowitz rightly blasts as a "racial ambulance chaser," has been exposed. The full extent of Jackson's on-going corrupt exploits and wholeshale extortion schemes have be chronciled for the world to see. This shaddy, disreputable figure, who always cry "foul," has ran down the end of the road of claiming permanent "victim status," in an effort to line the pockets of himself and his cronies. Bravo Timmerman!
