Rating: Summary: there's a shark in every ocean Review: We as grown adults need to relize that every race has those that go on fooling the majority for a long time , if not for life. I can't say if the information written in this book is true or false as no one else is able to prove, but we should remember that books are written primarily to sell not read! However, remember everyone that is the spokesperson for THE RACE (any race) will not have pure motives or a clean past to make room for them.Yes, every race has it's snakes, sharks and puritans.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: The truth about Mr. Jackson finally comes out in Mr. Timmerman's outstanding and well-documented book which exposes Jesse Jackson for the disgusting me-firster that he is. A must read.
Rating: Summary: The man behind the headlines Review: Mr. Timmerman has provided the reader with an indepth history on Mr. Jackson that you will never see in the daily print media. In this book you see the real person. He is not who he propors to be. Anyone who has never really thought about how Mr. Jackson gets his funding and how he spends the millions of government dollars that his various organizations get should read this book. This book was like reading a Robert Ludlum or Tom Clancy novel. You will NOT want to put it down and when you do you will have a new opinion of Mr. Jackson.
Rating: Summary: Phenomenal-eye opening!!!! Review: I think this book was well (and fairly) written, and was extremely interesting, and I dont feel it was racist in any way. It was hard to put the book down, and exposes how certain people "at the top" get where they are, and how they get things done for themselves....Things most people would never imagine. I would highly recommend reading this book, to open ones eyes to a whole different world of "work ethic" with regards to "achieving success".....
Rating: Summary: Shakedown, Take down Review: A very enlightening book. Mr. Jackson is exposed ( or portrayed, depending on what side of the fence you stand), as an overly ambitious rider of the proverbial coat tail. A sidelined third stringer at best, who wanted to play so bad but just couldn't. So he smeared dirt from the field on his jersy and proclaimed himself a "player" . And those who were, or are, unsuspecting, simply bought into the lie. I would not be a bit surprised if Mr. Jackson, or at the least, the powers surrounding Dr. King who had not agreed with his passive approach to change, actually orchestrated the good Doctors demise. An interesting hypothesis. Strictly opinion of course. The 'red' in the 'rainbow' will be tainted with the blood of Dr. King after you read this accounting.
Rating: Summary: A Little Too Biased For My Taste... Review: I began reading the book not liking Jesse Jackson so it did not take too much to convince me of Jesse's wrongdoings. I am not negating the author's asertions about Jesse's many underhanded dealings. What I do resent as an African-American woman is the undercurrent that ran throughout the book of distain that ran through the book about all Black Leaders mentioned. The idea that the government had a right to infiltrate and survey many black groups in the 60's and 70's to the extent that they did is completely ludicris and an absolute abuse of power. Tillerman's statements such as "Mandela stubbornly remained in prison on Roben Island long after the white government was prepared to release him because he had not yet succeeded in reducing the number of Communists within the AMC leadership.",creates a climate which is repeated throughout the book of how blacks could rise above if they would "let" the white government help them. There were some good points in the book however about Jackson's many underhanded dealings that I found interesting but the overall tone of the book I found very offensive as an African-American.
Rating: Summary: Jesse: Poverty Pimp and Race Hustler Review: The person who originally referred to Jackson as a "Poverty Pimp and Race Hustler," was a black Congressman on national television. His abuses ignored, because of his "cause" and his followers. No one wants to be painted with the R word. This author had guts to expose the truth for what the almighty reverand is all about: getting rich off of taxpayers' money and corporations, by claiming to represent the people he knows nothing about--the poor and disadvantaged. He likes to fly on government planes, and jump at any media opportunity. Great book by Timmerman.
Rating: Summary: good account of Jackson Review: I've been suspicious of Jesse Jackson's activities for a while now, so Shakedown provided a good account into what Jackson has done during his career from lying about his upbringing and religious credentials to corporate extorition and connections to gang activities. Timmerman provides an account of his work with such likable people as Fidel Castro and Yasser Arafat. Also he covers how Jackson boycotted companies for not hiring blacks then arranging things so the jobs would be given to gant members and people out on bond. Through the book, it becomes evident that Jackson has used his position as a leader to line his own pocket while leaving behind the people he claims to work for.
Rating: Summary: Finally ! Review: Finally someone has the guts to write an expose about this con man. Very well researched!
Rating: Summary: An alternative to shakedown Review: Jesse Jackson: A Biography by Marshall Frady This is a far better betrayal of the complex man known as Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr. Throughout history the masses of white folks have never really like black leaders--from Fredrick Douglas, to Marcus Garvey, to Malcolm X to Rev. Martin Luther King. Quess what? Jesse Jackson is no exception to that rule. Like most black leaders in America, he will be despised during his life--but his true humanity and contributions will be only appreciated after his death.
