Rating: Summary: The Freak of the Century Review: Marilyn Manson could not get an worse. I only read this book to see why Marilyn Manson is the way he is and I got all my answers. I mean it was like reading a Stephen King novel. Just one creeping book that haunts you at night. I heard that Marilyn was going to kill himself like 5 halloween nights ago but unfortunately, NO. I bet he likes being called the freak of the century though. And writing this review doesn't help because all you pot smoking Marilyn Manson fans can't read anyway. I mean, jeez, whiping his bum-bum with the American Flag? Ripping apart puppies on stage? What's America come too?
Rating: Summary: Manson does as well in writing as he does in music Review: Naturally, since I'm a huge Manson fan I'm going to say that this book is great. It truly is. He writes very convincingly {though I wonder if all of it is true...} and after you read it you realize that he is a human being just like all of us. Also, don't be freaked out by the cover. It is an old saying that books shouldn't be judged by their covers and this is true. The book goes by quickly once you start reading it and it is a little expensive but it is an excellent buy that you won't regret.
Rating: Summary: Philosophy or Perversions? Review: I read this at the genesis of my "Manson Phase" in 1999. But then I read it again a year later and I got more out of it because I knew a lot more than I did during my initial phase of 'worshipping' Marilyn Manson.
Marilyn Manson is a very intelligent person, perhaps one of the most articulate people in show business. Some of the stuff he says in this book have become personal quotes, not so much now, but back then yes. It's very philisophical, but some of it was also perverse. I can understand the drug problems, and the tensions amongst his band mates, and his school and everyone else who may have oppressed him, but his sexual explorations and innuendos were somewhat uncalled for. I am not criticizing Manson or his lifestyle. I always believed that whatever decisions you have made add some piece to the puzzle of your existence that completely makes up who you are and who you will be for the rest of your life. But if I wanted to read about sex, I'd read Penthouse.
I absolutely loved how he made one full page of all the rumours that were spread about him, and his response in his journal about all of those rumours, such as the removing his two ribs so he can perform the Monica Lewinsky Treatment on himself, and how he was on the Wonder Years, the animal sacrifices and all of the rumours that he was gonna commit suicide at a show. To me that was a stroke of genius.
I may not be his biggest fan now, but after reading this, I began to understand Manson more than your average ignorant or open minded person would. I still respect him for sticking to his guns and not caring about what others think. But what kinda pisses me off is that whether he is onstage (great live performer by the way!), or offstage, he is still Marilyn Manson. There was no sense of Brian Warner whatsoever, and sometimes his persona is dehumanizing to his caliber. He hides behind stage makeup and mutilated tattered clothing, which is deemed pronographic by some. Of courtse it's supposed to add to his 'mystique' but when you're writing an autobiography, or a hagiography so personal as this one, you kind of have to step out of yourself for it. Even in some interviews. Take for example, Maynard James Keenan from Tool/Perfect Circle. When he's on stage he's Maynard, a God, an enigma, a shaman of sorts. But when he's offstage, doing interviews and whatnot, he's a simple man from Ohio with a candid and articulate personality, and someone who seems to be comfortable in his own skin, something Manson obviously isn't. Keenan offstage doesn't need his onstage antics or persona to float him or to make him completely unbelievable to his fans.
Overall, I recommend reading this book word by word without any biast about his music, or any rumours you may have heard from the Christian Right or any people who hate it. You're guaranteed at least some reaction, and probably a more intellectual reaction to Manson. Even some Manson haters liked this book, and agreed that he has a certain amount of intelligence.
Rating: Summary: Mr. Manson hits a spot Review: Before i read this book I was a fan of Marilyn Manson, but after reading it I feel I have become a lot bigger fan. If you want to know any useful stuff about MM then this is the book for you, it is wellwritten, exciting, disturbing, touching and surprising at once. Even if you're not a fan this book is going to help you, and I guarantee you after reading this book you will have a whole different view on Marilyn Manson. Of course if you're not interested in MM then this book is obviously not for you, but if it is, then what are you waiting for? Buy!
Rating: Summary: An interesting life Review: This book is everything a Marilyn Manson fan would expect: it's creative, painfully honest, and intelligent--just like his music. The book contains everything from his unpleasant childhood reflections to his final awakening along with various incidents throughout his life that molded him into the knowingly uncanonical person he is. He tells his own story without constantly trying to look like the good guy. I especially enjoyed the chapter on his induction into Satanism where he describes its meaning, at least what it means to him, and it added to the respect I already had for him. I would recommend this book to anyone who has a desire to understand Marilyn Manson's perspective or to anyone who wants to discover where a few of the outrageous rumors pertaining to him actually came from.
Rating: Summary: Do yourself a favor: READ THIS BOOK! Review: Although I am not one of his die-hard fans, I was definitely moved by this book. You can't read it just once, because once isn't enough. He gives his readers food for thought and looks his critics (which are many) straight in the eye. Honest, insightful and revealing, also touching and hilarious at times. My favorite quote from the book sums up what I myself believe and stand for: "ONLY THROUGH EXPERIENCE CAN YOU DETERMINE YOUR OWN MORALITY. HUMANITY IS NOT ABOUT CONSTANTLY HAVING TO SEEK FORGIVENESS FOR BEING HUMAN; HUMANITY IS LEADING A GUILTLESS EXISTENCE AS AN INDIVIDUAL. THAT IS ARMAGEDDON, BECAUSE TO CHRISTIANITY IF YOU FORSAKE THE IDEA OF GOD AND BELIEVE IN YOURSELF, THE WORLD IS OVER." A lot of people would benefit by taking these words to heart. Highly recommended.

Rating: Summary: THE MOST MOVING STORY EVER TOLD! Review: MM's story is not for the faint of heart, but more for those who have always known that Human Nature is not actually what we might like it to be, or believe it to be. But I would still highly recommend it for everyone! I believe the events told by MM are all very accurate. Also, I truly believe that whatever people see and feel about MARILYN MANSON, is actually whatever is in themselves. Many people just see the sex and drugs. What I see is raw truth (Human Nature), and as a person, be it MM or Brian, from the very start, I can clearly see his individual Humanity (morality) shine through like an absolute, bright star! MM has greatly matured as a person, and therefore, as an artist/writer. And I believe that after all the philosophical arguments over right/wrong have worn themselves out, in the end, the truth prevails: there are no standards of right and wrong, there's only our Maturity. Try it, you might like it!!!
Rating: Summary: I didn't think it was all that good... Review: I'm a big fan of Manson's music since last summer. I've been wanting to read his book but while reading it, I realized that most of it is just his experiences with drugs (and how they mess up his thinking, his actions, his feelings, and his experiences with bondage and backstage sexual encounters with fans who are willing to be exploited sexually and who enjoy that kind of thing. I didn't learn a whole lot about him as a person except that he enjoys disgusting sexual acts and snorting coke. I thought that buying the book I would receive a lot of insight into his mind but I was disappointed in that. I felt that his writing this book was just a way to make more money off his fans, and to literally disgust everyone. (Which he certainly did). His music still kicks [bootie] in my mind and I don't hate him just because I didn't like his book.
