FOR EXAMPLE THE FACT THAT HE ALMOST DIED A COUPLE OF TIMES FROM DRUG OVERDOSES. I ENCOURAGE ANYONE WHO IS A FAN OF MANSON,OR WHO DOESN'T LIKE MANSON TO READ THE BOOK. IF YOU LIKE MANSON YOU WILL LOVE THE BOOK. IF YOU ARE AGAINST MANSON, YOU'LL UNDERSTAND WHY HE IS THE WAY HE IS.
Rating: Summary: hypocritical to the max Review: It's funny how a man so bent on eradicating Christianity can have an outlook on life that is so undenyable Christian. Manson's account of his life tells a story of a troubled and disturbed youth, who had a vision. And then, after years of struggling and suffereing, his vision was realized. His struggling and suffering came in the form of his first two albums, his perpetually changing band line-up, his drug habit, and the unorganized chaos that was the recording of the AntiChrist Superstar album. He talks about how he was throughoughly disatisfied with Portrait of an American Family and Smells Like Children, how, in the early days, his bandmates we losers who he hated, how he constantly high on cocainne, and how making Anti-Christ Superstar was a complete nightmare. But then, he overcomes his drug habit, he finds a lineup that works, and he gets himself and Trent Reznor into gear and makes what he consideres to be first "real" album. This kind of story is a mirror of of the life and resurrection of Jesus, a vision of something good, that can only be realized after a period of hardship. Manson talks about this in detail, about his reward after hardships etc. This is a complete contradition from hos religious rants where he says nothing but "Christianity teaches this" and "Christianity does that." Manson gives absolutely NO serious arguments against the core ethic of Christain theology, all he gives are mindless rants. Manson, in reality, isn't a Christian de-bunker, he is merely a disgrunted "recovering Catholic" who likes to think of himself as a philosopher, despite the fact that, as he perfectly illustrates in his own life story and ethical code, his own personal beliefs as basically a glam goth version of the wholesome Christian values that he otherwise says are "oppressive." Manson show no signs whatsoever of ever having done any serious research into the fundementals BEHIND Christianity, or of religion in general, like I said, he is merely an angry former Catholic with a bone to grind, and since he doesn't quite know where to grind it, he goes after the closest target. The book itself is a complete mess from beginning to end, with little structure holding it together. One page he's a first time marijuana user, on the next he's a full blown heroin junkie, his progression into heavy drug use is never fully explained, he does take a couple pages talking about his first acid trip though. And his musical career is also hard to comprehend when reading this book,. He talks about how he hated his old albums, but never really says anything about how he first became popular. He says be recorded Smells Like Children, and then jumps ahead a year, and says it was a dead album, with nothing talking about how the Sweet Dreams video got him some national exposure, and how this was the time when he first became a name to look out for. There's also plenty of obviously made-up stories in here, like when he saw a woman get her head split open, and his dreams, which, though creative, are doubtful. This man is nothing more than a media created icon who tries in vain to sound philosophical, but ends up embracing all the values he supposedly despises, I mean, have you ever seen him Politically Incorrect? No one laughs at his jokes, no one comments on anything he says, he basically gets ignored. And he gets ignored because everything he says is contradictory and nothing makes any sense.
Rating: Summary: This is pretty messed up! Review: I dont really agree with Marilyn Manson, the choices that he made, or even him at all. I borrowed this book from a friend, and I was surprised at some of the stuff that he said. I mean, he actually sounded intelligent! But I still did not like this book, it tells why he is the way he is. But if you're really curious; I'll tell you. He is messed up and you should not buy this book unless you are messed up as bad as he is.
Rating: Summary: MISTIFYING! Review: I read this book cover to cover in a matter of days! It is very intense, very graphic & extremely interesting! It made me admire Marilyn Manson even more. Reading about his family, friends, relationships & childhood made him seem more a real person as opposed to an icon. I thoroughly recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: TWO THUMBS UP, FINE HOLIDAY FUN! Review: THIS IS THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ IN MY LIFE. FOR ALL OF YOU THAT ARE AGAINST MANSON, GET THIS BOOK AND UNDERSTAIND WHY HE IS THE WAY HE IS.
Rating: Summary: LONG HARD ROAD Review: I bought this book when it first came out. I listened to Mansons music before this book came out and wondered why he was so screwed up. After I was finished I could see why. I was so drawn in by this book that I could not put down. For the people who do not like Manson or the people who don't understand him, you should read this book and you will know what he is about and what rumors are and are not true.
Rating: Summary: what I expected Review: In this book you get more of the literary/poetic virtuosity that appears occasionally in his song lyrics. Manson really likes similes, but else can you expect from the teenager who wrote about fields of hyacinths and jade and aphrodisiac sunglasses? Manson always writes more than you want to hear, but it`s a satisfying glimpse of the person behind the persona. Although i`m not sure how much of his literary voice is persona. He said once that in many ways his desire is to be pure again and not corrupted by the world.....that desire comes across in this book as well. A fascinating read.
Rating: Summary: Fifty Million Screaming Christians Can't Be Wrong, Can They? Review: What I liked about the book: I enjoyed the insight into Marilyn Manson's life; I would recommend this book to any Manson fan. I think that this book gives even hardcore fans some new information. I would not however, recommend it to anyone without a open mind or a non-Manson fan because some people would just look at the book as more incriminating evidence. This book was good because you can finally see what Marilyn Manson's life was like and also how he was feeling at some points in his music writing process. What I didn't like about the book: I think that at sometimes this book gave you too much information. The book talks in-dept about some of Marilyn Manson's drug use and sexual experiences, which can be overwhelming at times. Some parts of Marilyn Manson's life wasn't exactly explained in detail either; some things I wanted to know that he hadn't answered in any of the interviews. But since he wrote the book I suppose he didn't want to share now either. Bottom line: If you are a Marilyn Manson fan, or are interested in his life, or you just want to find out the truth about some rumors, or you want to dig up dirt on him then the book is well worth the
Rating: Summary: Marilyn's Just This Guy, You Know? Review: Look. Manson is obviously a liar and exaggerator and in love with himself - but he sure is a lot of fun! I haven't laughed so hard out loud for a long time! Thanks Marilyn
