Summary: Life and Living
Review: This is the story of one woman's life. That is, in all simplicity, what it is. It is life, albeit a well told, thought-provoking recitation. And unlike I have, Kingston does not go overboard on the vocabulary. The narrative is eloquent. I have found (uh-oh first person) it to be a good book and would recommend it even to my closest of friends. (Just so you know that I'm not just saying that, I'd recommend it to mes amis as well.) Oh, and just to show you that I really did read it, my favorite quote in the whole book goes a little along the lines of this: "I learned to make my mind large, as the universe is large, so that there is room for paradoxes"(29). It is strange to learn that someone else has wondered why their last toe nail is split in half, and searched for a personal guru. Geez Louise, I've just about broken every rule in the English book. This is gonna be out in the public forum too. Ah well. I'll sum up now. Story of life, Well told.

Summary: An inspiring story
Review: Dear Maxine Hong Kingston, I was real inspired by this story. It proves that all women can be just as tough as men. The images let me feel as if it was really happening. I'm really glad you wrote this story because it provides a good model to all young women and not only Asian women.

Summary: Dreams can be more than powerful.
Review: Dear Ms. Maxine Hong Kingston, "White Tigers" was a story that left morals and themes for everyone. The impact the story left for me was the importance of commitment to one's goals and dreams. Fa Mu Lan had a dream and she fulfilled it in the greatest way possible; with integrity and honor. Comparing the two lifesyles of the woman warrior and to yourself as a girl demonstarated the power of having a dream. As well as the difference of making that dream become your reality. -Allison

Summary: The White Tigers was an inspiring story.
Review: Dear Ms. Hong Kingston, Your story of Fa Mu Lan was incredibly inspiring. The story shows determination and the power of perseverance. The training she underwent on the mountain of the white tigers shows her willpower. Your story contained so many experiences similar to what we expect in our everyday life, that the story relates to almost anybody that reads it, whether they are Asian or even European. -REID

Summary: An inspiring story
Review: I liked the story because it proves that no matter what your skills, or how big you are, or whether you are a boy or a girl, you can still be a hero if you work hard and make sacrifices. The Woman Warrior was an inspiring story.

Summary: a poignant story.
Review: I think "White Tigers" of The Woman Warrior is a poignant story. The thing that was the saddest to me was that she chose to sacrifice being with her family for 15 years but I think it was worth it because she could now defend her family.

Summary: "White Tigers" opened up your mind and imagination.
Review: "White Tigers" was a strong and inspirational story about woman. The great themes such as having 'voice' and the detailed imagery made a deep impression in my mind. The visuals were really rad. We loved the images of darkness and the similes that were used, such as the time when the mountains were described as the tops of dragons heads. The idea of Fa Mu Lan becoming a warrior instead of a slave of the house gave women the strength and option to become what they want. -Jenny Kimhan & Charlotte Sim

Summary: Satysfyingly Descriptive
Review: Dear Mrs. Kingston, White Tigers was an unusual and creative story. I could easily extract the point and theme. The two scenes that particularly appealed to my senses were the journey of the little girl up the mountain and the carving of Fa Mu Lans back. I would reccommend this story because it supports the theme of "women can be anything the want to, sex does not make us inferior!" Girl power :)

Summary: A visual story
Review: Whit Tigers is a very visual story. Our class found visual passages which seemed like poetry embedded in the story. For example, the way the dragon is portrayed as a living, breathing entity. It captures the readers' imagination and takes it for an interesting ride.
