Rating: Summary: Rare Gem of a book -- Hard to put down! Review: Extremely well-written and easy-to-read book. The author conveys the crushing blow his loving family felt as one of his daughters accepted Jesus as the Messiah. This father quickly went into action to begin the journey to reconcile his family. His stories move quickly from scene to scene and are very captivating. The ending is extremely heart warming as Stan Telchin describes success in reuniting his family.
Rating: Summary: How a Jewish man came to grips with ALL of his heritage Review: First, I want to say that I am thrilled that Mr. Telchin, through his own private, intensive study, found God.Secondly, I can recommend this book because it contains all the ingredients (conflict, suspense, satisfactory resolution) needed for a good read. It was a good overview of how one man was made to examine his personal beliefs and whether those beliefs were based on sound reasoning or not. It was so engrossing, I finished the book in less than a day! However, what I found incredible was how Judaism was represented in this book. The Jewish rabbis never had any competent answers for Mr. Telchin. Any questions he had were answered either by more concentrated study or by his newly found Gentile Christian friends. Is this really representative of Judaism at large? Is Judaism really that superficial, with professing adherents lacking so much in knowledge and substance? I think the book would have been more convincing had Mr. Telchin's faith not been so sketchy to begin with. The more skeptical reader will find this a major weakness of the book. The chapter I found most interesting (the subject of which I want to study further) was Chapter 10 entitled "What Happened to the Early Believers?" In it, Mr. Telchin gives a VERY brief summary of how a cult that was almost exclusively composed of Jewish believers in the beginning slowly transformed into a religion now mainly practiced by Gentiles and viscerally shunned by its original proponents.
Rating: Summary: Who Could Find Fault With This? Review: Here is the personal story of a man who explored his faith and discovered that it led him to Christianity. He was not proselytized. No one pressured him. He took his time and researched all the questions he could think of. He allowed each member of his family the privacy to do the same, and they all became Christians. Then they all paid the price of alienation for their new found convictions. Join Stan Telchin in his quest for truth. This is a well written book that will arouse the imagination of any open minded reader. This book is easy to read and hard to put down.
Rating: Summary: Book Description Review: How do you feel when you are successful, Jewish, and your 21-year old daughter tells you she believes in Jesus?
Rating: Summary: Betrayed Review: If you love, and have a heart for the Jewish people, you will also love this beautiful story.
Rating: Summary: Betrayed! is impacting people all over the world. Review: Now in 20 languages worldwide, Betrayed! continues to be a best seller in each. This story of one Jewish man's efforts to disprove the Messiahship of Jesus has touched hearts and raised questions which impact all people. In England it is listed as "A Christian Classic" and "Must Reading"
Rating: Summary: A Great Introduction to a Jewish Perspective on Jesus Review: Some religious Jewish people will be offended by this book and that cannot be helped. Any book which presents a controversial topic is going to get slammed. But the fact is, and Stan presents it very well and very readably, there is a strong case to be made for the Messiahship of Jesus. Stan shows how one Jewish person, with a good Jewish education and strong ties to the Jewish community, looked at the evidence and was convinced. Those who do not find the evidence presented by Stan convincing can nonetheless see his sincerity throughout. With a Masters degree in Hebrew Bible, I feel qualified to say that the passages from the Hebrew Bible that Stan discusses are almost all translated very well and Stan's interpretation is sound in nearly every instance. I have seen this book change the lives of Christians and Jews alike and have given away dozens of copies myself.
Rating: Summary: Truth seeking is rewarded truely by the Truth Himself. Review: Stan is another example of what the awakening track record is for those who seek to disprove the Good News of Yeshua/Jesus. Those who honestly seek to disprove the Good News, without exception, eventually accept it. Those who honestly seek the Good News are rewarded with it's revelation. The struggle this man encountered while attempting to understand this anethmetic christian belief and his personal doubts are well expressed. He honestly sought to disprove the reality of the Good News. He could have followed the example of many by following the logic of many of our ancestors by following nothing but his finite perceptions. He could have looked at the example of many present day "christians" and feel justified that his disbelief in the Good News is without challenge. However, He looked for the Truth to honestly disprove it by the very means from which the Truth is expressly recorded: The Entire Bible ( Old Testament AND New Testament). Stan took a bold stand to make sure his daughter was not making a mistake in accepting Yeshua/Jesus. In the end, the Truth was revealed to him and he made an eternal decision. I will see him, alive, standing before the King of the Universe!
Rating: Summary: Description of a man's search for truth about the Messiah Review: Stan Telchin describes how angry he was when his daughter converted from Judaism to Christianity. Most of the book describes his research in the Jewish Old Testament and history, in an attempt to prove to his daughter that the New Testament was false and not to be trusted. Instead, as a result of his research, Stan became convinced that Jesus was the Messiah, even though he fought it for months. Then his friends became extremely angry with him, for the same reason he was angry with his daughter. Stan gives a great comparison of OT prophecy and how Jesus fulfilled them. Both Christians and Jews alike forget that Jesus and Jews were about the only Christians for about the first 100 or so years. Gentile Christians became a majority in the new church only after 200 AD or so.
Rating: Summary: An excellent tool for witnessing to the Jewish people Review: Telchin does an excellent job of expressing his personal autobiography of acceptance of Jesus as the Jewish Messiah. He outlines a study approach and then leads the reader through his discoveries. A must for every Jewish non-believer to read, and great for believers, too!
