Summary: Best modern war book I have EVER read !
Review: An excellent book that shows how little we know about war. Probably the best book I have read in over 2 years!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A Classic Book Of War
Review: Rumor Of War is about the 1st Battalion Third Marine Regiment in Vietnam. There have been many books written about 1/3, but this is, and probably will remain, the classic. This book has become required reading in many high schools. Mr. Caputo is an excellent writer, and this is the story of his time in Vietnam. I served with 1/3 a year after Mr. Caputo, and combat officers didn't last long without death or injury. A must read to understand one important view of the Vietnam War.

Summary: Veitnam in its most brutal truth.
Review: The story of the young Caputo who goes to war and returns scared for life. The book is hard to put down and is a book that is sad, and will change the way Americans think of war, and Veitnam. A classic told through eyes of the average grunt.

Summary: Buy It!
Review: I read Caputo's book in college more than ten years ago and it still haunts me. Somewhere through the course of living I have lost my original copy so I am ordering a new one. There is no other definitive work on the Vietnam War as a personal experience quite like this book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The best documentary of Vietnam I have ever read.
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed Caputo's account of America's most tragic war

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: a war novel that makes you feel like you are there
Review: This was the first war novel I have ever read, and I was amazed by the realness of the words. I have never been in war or close to war, but this book made me feel like I was next to Caputo during the hard times in Vietnam. I didn't understand war before reading his book, but now I definately have a clearer reason of why people result to war and what makes them so evil when they fight one another. This is an essential book for every person because it is real, and it is important in understanding the mind of a soldier. I recommend this book very stongly, it happens to be one of my favorite books.

Summary: A History Book I Actually Enjoyed!
Review: I'm a freshman in college and I just finished reading this book for my history class. When I first started reading it I thought that it was going to be some boring old war story. But one night when I sat down to continue my reading, I got a different feeling from it. I no longer felt like I was reading it just to do my paper, I was reading it to learn of the past. It captured my attention to the point where I could almost swear that I was there, could see the dark rice paddies at night on watch. I could almost smell the decay as he IDed the bodies of his fallen friends. This is a book to learn from and one to remember. An excellent book for anyone wishing to know the experiences of a soldier and how those experiences shape who he becomes. I know that this is one book I will not be returning at the end of the semester.

Summary: Absolutely endearing. An honest perspective on war.
Review: Philip Caputo captures the confusion brought on by the Vietnam War in this book. The description of his feelings while serving time in Vietnam illustrates the feelings shared by a whole country. He does not glorify the war but gives a truly unique and honest description. Two thumbs up from a student who CHOSE not to sell this one back! I will read it over and over again.

Summary: Emotionally Gripping, Fabulously Written
Review: I had to read this book in my Humanities class in high school. I started reading it backstage during a performance of "Grease" and I loved it!! Caputo is like Vonnegut in a way; both portrayed themselves or their characters or the circumstances in a sharp, realistic fashion. Caputo didn't glorify the war or his participation in it. This started out as an assignment and turned into one of my more dog-eared paperbacks.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: An honest portrayal of the effects of war
Review: Philip Caputo gives an honest and hard-hitting account of the Vietnam War. I felt the tension and could hear the screams as if I was truly there. It is a book that leaves the reader with a glimpse of what it must have been like to fight in Vietnam, as well as an anger for the many who lost their lives for an unwinnable cause. This is a must read for all those who want to experience the realities of the Vietnam War.
