Summary: Am I missing something?
Review: I've had such a hard time getting through this book.

Yes, Rachel was a true servant of God. Yes, Rachel loved humanity.

Yes, Rachel struggled with temptation, and everything else we all go through, but I don't understand why she had to be written about.

A martyr? I'm more than halfway through the book and I've yet to come across anything that says or suggests that she was targeted because of her religious beliefs.

Rachel was loved, and admired by those who knew her, but I don't think that her relationship with the Lord was any better or any worse than those of other believers. I've been a born again christian for the past 16 years, and all Rachel went through while in school, I went through, and that didn't make me better or worser than the person next to me.

Rachel had a deep relationship with God that many teenagers her age don't have. She wanted to be used by God. She wanted heads to turn when she walked by. That's great. She was dear and special. That's great, but I'm missing something and I don't know what it is.

I truly believe that instead of writing about Rachel herself, her parents should've published all her beautiful poetry and drawings. She was obviously a very talented young lady who had so much to offer, and yet her life was cut short by two boys who obviously needed a lot of help.

I wish I could give this book more stars, but I just can't justify my doing so.

Summary: God once again betrayed by the Christian right.
Review: Rachel transcends her conservative Christian background, probably freed by her parents' divorce, takes an authentic, creative, tragically short walk with God, while dedicating her life to service that left a well of tears in those she touched. The possibility that she was targeted by the Columbine killers because of her very belief in God lends some emergent meaning to the deadly drama that might otherwise be lost in its apparent senselessness.
The first 9 chapters of this book could be interesting for teenagers who struggle with maintaining personal authenticity in the High School environment, while struggling with concepts of good and evil, except that those chapters are irretrievably sabotaged by the parents' (the authors) shameless exploitation in the final two chapters of their child's tragic death to advance their conventionally narrow right-wing pro-gun, anti-democratic agenda. Not only is there nothing in the book to suggest that their daughter shared any single element of this agenda, but one of its more revealing passages shows Rachel avoiding the school-based Christian club because she eschewed identities that divided people, or strategies that would diminish her own authentic growth in God by diminishing her personality to a solely Christian identity that such clubs foster, or forcing her views on her felow students. Her parents not only failed to understand the depth and breadth of their daughter's spiritual quest during her lifetime, as they more or less admit. They go on to betray her memory by appropriating her beautiful story of witness through love, service and kindness in order to append to it their own narrow shortsighted political agendas, including advocacy of school-based official religious proselytization that violates her story, while it apparently bolsters the burgeoning career of at least one of the parents on the right wing political circuit. I have never felt my soul so soiled by any book. Because of the parents' gratutious final two chapters which define the purpose of the book to serve the parents' private and political agenda's, rather than their daughter's spiritual one, I could not recommend this book to anyone. Buying this book rewards people who betray and exploit the memory of their own daughter for their own ugly ends, much as right-wing religion generally exploits the beauty and love of Jesus for its own hateful, narrow, divisive, political, intolerant and - yes - anti-Christian goals.

Summary: Jesus wept
Review: Groan. These folks should be ashamed for using Rachel like this. A pampered suburban life is a spiritual jouney? Rachel was no doubt a very earnest young lady, but to go so far as to call her a "martyr" based on the flimsiest of testimonies is a prime example of certain so-called "Christians" advancing their own agendas at the expense of others. She and many of the others were targeted by the killers for their popularity, whatever its source; "Christian" cliques or otherwise. The hyping of this book is very sad in that it degrades all sincere religion and real spiritual advancement. Most of all, it degrades Rachel by distorting who she really was and what she might have grown up to be and degrades the others who died by implying that they were somehow less important for not supposedly professing a personal walk with Jesus. Those who were closest to her need to be left to grieve her death and to find meaning in her short life while the rest of us better-spend our time and money working on the stories of our own lives to help better the world and to take the steps to prevent similar tragedies in the future instead of pandering to them.

Sad, sad, sad.

Summary: The Grace of God shown through Rachel Scott
Review: I have any amazing experience with this book. This book has touched my life. No, not this book but the life of Rachel Scott. Was she a believer? definately, did she care for others? unimaginably, did she live her life through God? Yes, and she died for it. These words are just the beginning of the love for her savior Jesus Christ and the love for others that she lived. She died on the April 20, of 99' shootings at Columbine. God has changed my life through her, made me see things totally different... If you would like to know more you all should read this book, you wont leave unblessed. Thank you God for bringing such a great life example to me.. and thank you Rachel.. We miss you! See you soon! =')

Summary: Rachel's Tears: A Must-Read For Any Age!
Review: When I first purchased my copy of Rachel's Tears, I was not able to put it down - it was THAT good! While this book is targeted for a youth to young adult audience, I believe that there are main ideals in this book that appeal to any age group.

Rachel's Tears is a moving portrayal of the life of Columbine Martyr Rachel Joy Scott. There are excerpts from Rachel's own private journals and both Darrell Scott and Beth Nimmo (Rachel's Parents) provide their own commentaries on various aspects of Rachel's life throughout the book.

This book will truly open your eyes to the incredibly mature relationship that Rachel had with God and will encourage those who are Christians to pursue a more intimate relationship with their Heavenly Father.

Rachel's Tears shows that Rachel, although having a relationship with God that displayed an obvious level of maturity beyond her years, was a normal teenager and dealt with the various issues that all teenagers face at one point or another.

After reading this book, I was truly motivated to pick up the torch and continue on where Rachel left off. I am encouraged to start off a "Chain Reaction" of my own where I live.

I want to personally thank both Darrell and Beth for writing this book and giving us an insight into the inspiring life of their daughter. It must have been an incredibly hard book to write, but I am truly grateful that it was written. We will never forget Rachel Joy Scott!

Summary: A wondeful and spiritually uplifting book
Review: I recently finished reading this book. I found it to be such an inspiration to so many people out there. I can not imagine having the faith and courage to do half the things that this young girl did to show her faith in Jesus Christ. And to be in touch so well with her feelings, and in touch with God's calling. I really feel this book is a great inspiration to whom ever reads, young old, believer, or non - believer.
