Summary: Touching and inspirational. Must read for any Christian.
Review: This book touched me like no other. 'Rachel's Tears' detail's Rachel Joy Scott's faith in God despite peer pressure and struggles in life. Rachel's closeness and passion for God was amazing. This book is based on Rachel's journal entries, letters to God, and the testimony of her friends and loved ones. It also has a few pictures of her and many images of Rachel's actual journal entries. If you're mostly interested in Rachel's journal entries also consider buying 'The Journals Of Rachel Scott: A Journey Of Faith At Columbine High'. 'Rachel's Tears' not only provides a lot of info about Rachel, but it gives a lot of life lessons from a Christian point of view. This book may not be well suited for non-christians or anyone that dislikes touchy feely books.

While reading the book two main debates arise as you read.

Was Rachel acurately potrayed in this book, or did her family exaggerate or try to make her seem like a saint? Yes, the authors (Her family) noted that Rachel was not perfect, but she had a great deal of faith and commitment in God and desire to help people. She had a walk with God that most of us could only hope for.

Was Rachel in fact a modern day Martyr for the Christian faith? I honestly believe she was. I feel God works in misterious ways.

Review: Rachel's Tears

Rachel's Tears, is a sad story that her parents wrote. It is a breathtaking and overwhelming story. There is Rachel, a joyful teen, that believes in God. Craig, is her brother that lays between his friends under a table in the library. Dylan and Eric are the shooters that kill themselves. Beth and Darrel are Rachel's loving parents. This non fiction story is a christian book.
Rachel's Tears takes place in Coumbine High School with about 1900 students in it. Columbine High School is near Denver, Colorado. The story has lots of passages from Rachel's journals in it. This book would be a great book for 8th grade and up to parents. A lot of people that know her wrote little things about her. Most of the stuff from Rachel's journals are letters or written poems.

Summary: A Girl Beyond Her Years
Review: I was moved to tears many times by this book. This young lady was more grounded in her faith than some of us ever are our entire lives. We search for that kind of closeness with God, she had it, she was there. Her desire to not be afraid to be different and share her faith, to talk her walk as she called it, should be enough to make anyone want to make changes in their life after reading this. I have requested that my teenage daughters youth group at church read it, as well as her reading class at a Christian School she attends. Every person who has or does struggle with their faith should read this book. This young lady will inspire you. Her family has done a wonderful job with this, it is a beautiful book. I lived in the area very close to Columbine and attended the first years it was opened. This tragedy has been very difficult for me and my teenage daughter. This book has helped us both deal with the tragedy in a way that Rachel may have wanted us to learn from it, as I feel I have learned a great deal from her. One of those important messages being....Eternity is in you hands, change it!

Summary: Wow
Review: This book is more than just another book about Columbine. This book is a book about a remarkable young lady who was an amazing example of how Christ wants us to be. This book touched me and gave me a new hope and desire to live my life for God by watching out for the forgotten ones. Rachel made it a goal to help others who were forgotten by the more "popular" crowds. She left some very inspiring writings in journals that she kept. These journals inspired her parents to write this book. I am so grateful that they did. I believe this book will bless both the young and the old.

Summary: Very inspirational, not for heartless anti-Christians
Review: I could not put this book down, though I did have to stop reading at times when it got too emotional. I couldn't believe how much this book got to me, but it did. Webster's defines a martyr as "one who voluntarily suffers death as the penalty of witnessing to and refusing to renounce his religion". If Rachel Scott, affirming her belief in God with a gun to her head, is not a martyr, I don't know who is.

Rachel, like every other mortal, wasn't perfect, and nowhere in the book suggested that she was. She did, however, do her best to let Jesus shine through her. She was honest with herself, and very self-critical, always looking for ways to better serve God. She learned lessons along the way as everyone does. Most admirably in my opinion, she walked the walk rather than talk the talk.

Her parents, too, are an inspiration. I can't imagine how terrible it would've been to be in their shoes having lost their daughter to such a senseless act of violence. Through all their grief and anger, they've somehow found it in their hearts to forgive the two killers. I admit they're much stronger than I. There's no way I could ever forgive the people who intentionally killed my child.

I still gasp in disbelief that a few people actually gave this one star. Their rantings and ravings clearly point to a deep rooted hatred of Christianity. One reviewer even accused Rachel's parents of pushing right-wing propaganda through the pages. I'm assuming this reviewer was referring to the section in which Rachel's father said he doesn't blame guns for his daughter's death. I guess her father's honest opinion is "right wing propaganda" if you don't agree with it.

This book is a source of inspiration, hope, and renewed faith in God and the human spirit. There are two sides to every story. There is the negative, awful side of Columbine which we know all too well about. This book deals with the positive side, about the wonderful life of Rachel and her fellow students for the years and years they were alive. Instead of focusing on one terrible day in history, April 20, 1999, Rachel's parents choose to focus on the years they were lucky enough to spend with her.

To this book's detractors, I ask you why you question the facts presented in this book? Dave Sanders, the Columbine teacher, was killed helping students to safety. Isaiah Shoels, a black student, was killed as the killers yelled racial obscenities at him. Others were killed because they were athletes. You don't seem to question the motives behind these killings. Yet when at least two of the victims were killed because of their Christian faith, you immediately denounce it as a lie. I ask you why you single out Christian martyrdom for your criticism, and not the causes of the other murders. Does this reflect your own hatred of Christianity, leading you to instantly denounce any bit of evidence that might serve to uphold the religion? Go watch "Bowling for Columbine" for the 500th time...you won't have to hear anything about Rachel Scott or her Christian faith.

For those of us with feelings, emotions, and loving families, this book will leave you spellbound. You don't need to be Christian to read this...Rachel's honest faith and her reflecting lifestyle is enough to move you.

Summary: no...
Review: i sorry, i read this book and it was VERY easy to put down. simple as the fact that because she was a christian and because she died, does NOT make her a martyr. there is nothing that proves she died FOR HER FAITH.i found this book to be rather pathetic in it's attempts to bring every sinlge thing back to god. i rread this book with the intention of learning more about what happened but all i found was more myths. truth seekers aviod this book and find something better

Summary: Continuing the chain reaction of kindness.
Review: This is just the book I needed to read! Spiritually, it changed my life forever. Now, I realize how precious life is, how amazing God can be through the hearts of others, and how awesome Rachel truly was. She is so lucky to be with Our Heavenly Father! Her chain reaction of kindness continues through this book as God inspired her parents to write about her life. Through her diary entries, Rachel Scott continues to touch the world. This book is hard to put down, direct, and thorough. I recommend it to anyone at any point in their life. It is one that should be kept on the shelf and handed down from generation to generation.
