Summary: Texas Politics--perfect dirt to grow Shrub
Review: I live in Houston and, like about 70% of the Texas electorate, did not vote in the last two gubernatorial elections.

No rumor or false charges in here...just a "Shrub" resume. Reads easily and with Molly Ivan's pithy humor, you almost forget the seriousness of the subject!

This book describes the catastrophe of non-participation in politics...money buys power. Power seeks money and is corrupted.

And the only winners are the big spenders and soft-money donors--the type who can stay in the Houston Bedroom in the Austin Governor's Mansion and become $100,000 Bush 'Pioneers.'

I wanted to ask: Why has our air and water quality gone all to hell in Texas? Who sold out our air? The answer lies herein.

I wanted to ask: How can Bush claim he gave Texans a tax break when what he really did was squander the Tobacco Settlement Texas won under Ann Richards and he opposed--which was to be used for kindergartens--for tax breaks for the wealthy? Who sold out our kids? The answer is here.

I wanted to ask why he is balancing the state budget on "the backs of the poor" when he says his own party does that in Washington?

Why he signed a gun-toters' special allowing concealed weapons for the first time in 150 years...and then signed a backup bill allowing the same in churches and other places of worship? Why Governor? Because you kept a promise to the NRA when you beat Ann Richards?

I wanted to ask a lot of questions to a man who has one quality: he can trash millions of dollars of other people's money and still have someone there to foot the bill when he comes with his hand out

Bush is promising to do for you what he did for us here in Texas. Read this brave book to see if you want that to happen, and who he owes.

The book makes one strong point: Shrub pays his political debts, as did old Poppy Bush before him. And he has plenty of political debt to pay right now.

Summary: Read It And Weep (and Laugh)
Review: The book gives a witty, seemingly well documented, account of George W. Bush's political accomplishments to date. If these accomplishments seem few and his record seems light weight, we mustn't forget how powerful family name and big money are in getting a man elected - and this is the tragedy.

The book is timely, extremely relevant in this election year. Other books of similar timely, political relevance which I've enjoyed include Robert Wilson's "Power and the Presidency" and "Presidential Temperaments" by David Keirsey and Ray Choiniere.

Summary: Molly goes where the corporate media won't
Review: Ah, bless Molly's heart. If it wasn't for her and Jim Hightower the political landscape here in the Great State would be as brutal and unforgiving as the landscape of West Texas.

Oscar Wilde said "Deep down I'm really shallow", and if Dubya had even an ounce of self awareness (or sense of humor) he'd be able to say the same. This man is living proof that "Compassionate Conservative" is an oxymoron.

Summary: jitanner@mindspring.com
Review: Molly is a little left of me, about 60 miles. Her heart is in the right place, even when her concerns are a little more in favor of the mentally challenged and agin the economically empowered. Her book on George W., which I heard in the audio version, is a sippin' whiskey sort of thing, that should be taken during the quiet time of the day. Her courage in writing it, against a formidable presidential candidate is only heightened by the very high probability that he could actually become the President of the United States.

Summary: Excellent
Review: This easy to read and factual primer on George W. Bush is a great service to our country. Stuck with a media that will not ask the important questions, or follow up on any statement candidates make, this book provides great insight into Bush's political record. And it speaks for itself. I could never imagine a candidate for president more alienating to the underprivileged, poor, and despised of our nation. Chapters on the environmenatal record, crimal justice, and Brownsville are quite revealing. All Americanians, I mean Americans, should read this one.

Summary: Shrub, Molly Ivins
Review: Outstanding review of the Bush govenorship of Texas. Everyone caring about the current elections should become informed. The cd is easy to listen to, read by Ms Ivins. McCain and Gore supporters both should listen to these words or read the print. Flowing information. Easy to understand and very revealing.Great sense of humor and sense of history. Answers many of the questions raised in the recent primary elections.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Ivins' humor leavens Dubya's vapidity
Review: Now that Dubya has the nomination, this book becomes even more valuable. The book is basically about Dubya's record as a Texas Governor. I've lived in the state for 33 years; Dubya's record is simply not there. Dubya is the quintessential nice guy. He's the kind of pal you'd want as a neighbor. He'd be a good beer-drinking buddy. He wants to be president so that he can make mom and dad proud. Good motivation, but a poor reason to want to run a country. Ivins provides strong evidence that, when it comes to Dubya, there is no there there. I challenge readers to find mistakes in Ivins' analysis of the record.

Summary: The real truth
Review: Now the rest of the world can find out what we Texans have known all along. The Texas governership is a title only. The Texas gov has very little power. George W. is all hat and no cattle. Ask any Texas school teacher about what he has done for education, she will laugh in y our face. Molly has been funnier, but she has never been more truthful. The woman knows and understands Texas politics, and where the bodies are buried!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Just the Facts.
Review: If you are truly interested in the bare bones facts of who you are being seduced into voting for, this is the book for you. Molly Ivins is one of the most honest and unbiased reporters on the scene today. If you haven't heard of her, it's because she has a nasty propensity for telling the truth ... and the propogandists who spend fortunes controlling your beliefs can't cope with that. Before you vote, whatever your politcal persuasion, read this book. Find out who the man is you're voting for, and who bought and paid for him.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: An insightful look into a real "character"
Review: Molly Ivins captures the essence of W's "character". He is a man of many words and an image of his own making. However, the reality of his life and administration in Texas is something else again. Ms. Ivins exposes the "son-who-would-be-president" for what he really is. And she does so in a wholly engaging style with charm and wit.
