Rating: Summary: Must Read. Extra Excellent. Deserves all stars in the Sky. Review: A must read for all, even teen or pre teen readers. This is an extraordinary composition, a beautiful work. Indeed, one I could not pause reading since its commencement untill its end. Firstly, the argument is so compelling, so frank, so natural, and so accurately written, that it takes brains to combine into a piece the different tones depending on Tobias age development, situation, life evolution, etc. His prose is absolutely well thought, since its structure and simplicity, describes in utter detail the characters, especially Tobias personality, his own train of reasoning, notable due to its positive attitude all the way. Secondly, perhaps of uttermost importance, becomes the fact : while the partial memoir is conveyed, the psychological pre and adolescent mind, its problems, frustrations, fears, solitude, joined to the coping of the culture cruelty, the need to belong to something, complicated relations with girls, and all these problems, sometimes underestimated by youngsters as well as parents, teachers, doctors, etc., are brought up to us by the author. Tobias Wolff achieves to convey the audience all his psychological wisdom, by relating his lifetime as a youngster in the fifties. Indeed, one could just take any book related to developmental behaviour off pre teen boys to teenagers, its difficulties, the peer pressure, the induced alcoholism, amid all the problems boys have to quietly endure, and find out that they are subconscious and subliminal conveyed to the reader. Wolff does this subliminal teaching either by relating Tobias or other boys lives. Essentially a must read by anyone beyond the age of 9-10, particularly a boy, and by the universe off people that are concerned about their sons, pupils, patients. etc. Leave it anywhere where it can definitely be accessible to your boys, fathers and even sisters. Afterward, you will see how their attitude changes, maybe subtly for the best, since Tobías was and must still be a positive fighter for a greater life. I would give it all the stars of the Universe. It is Extra, Extra Excellent. Do yourself a favor, don't miss reading it.
Rating: Summary: A Classic that will never be forgotten! Review: I had to read this book for 12th grade English. I don't usually read my summer reading books, but I forced myself to read this one. Once I was 10 pages into it, I couldn't stop reading it. I read it in one day and I am a slow reader. I did nothing but read all day. Jack/Toby's life was so much like mine that the comparisons were surreal. I just hope others like this book as much as I did and still do.
Rating: Summary: great book Review: i loved the book and you should read it to
Rating: Summary: The Boy's Life (Título en español: Enemigo).
Rating: Summary: Well written but boring... Review: I had to read this book for school, it wouldn't have been my first choice, but out of many I chose it. It was very well written but I had to force myself to read it. It got quite boring in places and just didn't seem to go anywhere. If you like autobiographical type things, you would like this otherwise it's not for you.
Rating: Summary: ONE OF THE FEW MOST COMPELLING MEMOIRS EVER WRITTEN. Review: First of all, I would like to tell everyone that, with the amazing consistency of this confessional work, this is a book worth your time. No matter who you are or whatever, this book is a universal piece of literature for the boy in this book and his nature is a reflection of the typical childhood. Simply amazing and very well written; I say very well written for each and every word in this book is undoubtedly real and from the core of truthfulness of the boy's (Jack's) points of view towards everything that happened to him. Read it and have fun doing so (I assure you an inevitable enjoyment).
Rating: Summary: "This Boring Life" Review: I hated this book. I had to read it for my 10th grade English class and nobody in my class even liked it. It was the worst book I ever read. It has no plot and no climax. The book is only a string of non-sequitorial memories from someone who mistakenly thought his life was interesting enough to make other people read about it. If there are any English teachers reading this review, I beg them to please not put more innocent students through the torture that is "This Boy's Life".
Rating: Summary: Tight, honest, spellbinding narrative Review: It's hard to hold my interest as it is, but this book did it the first time I read it (seven years ago), and just recently, and because of it's honesty, may be a timeless narrative read again and again well into the next century!
Rating: Summary: The book that you could know more about children's childhood Review: Excellent ! Wonderful ! Jack's dreams like mine, so I love to read this book Cruel, emotional, hopeful are some aspects of this book
