Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Great book for any fan. Review: The Beatles Anthology is the sole source of all information about the Beatles you will need. The four Beatles along with some of their closest associates contribute to this book. It gives you a look from the inside of their life from each Beatle's early life all the way to the end of the group. All aspects of their life are covered here. This book is good for those fans who have heard one or two of their songs but want to learn more, all the way to those who think they know all about the fab four (they end up learning a lot more than they already knew!). The pages have little titles on the bottom that tell you about the material on it (I.E. drugs, Yoko Ono, Revolver, The Phillipines, etc.) I got this book last February and I still haven't finished it. I wish I had more time to read it; it is written very well. It is a great gift for any Beatle fan.

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Overwhelming but inviting history of The Beatles Review: The Beatles would admit that being at the right place at the right time had a lot to do with their cultural impact. What Anthology also reveals is that The Beatles weren't there by accident. They had the impact they did for the same reason that Elvis did; they changed the rules of the game and were playing a constant game of one upmanship. Certainly there were other important bands from this period. The cultural impact the band had resulted as much from their talent as the press coverage of their every move. 40 years after their debut single Anthology manages to convey both the impact of the band and the changing values of the time they worked within. The book is packed with interesting tidbits, trivia and the band's unique perspective from inside the fishbowl of fame. Anthology allows the band to tell their own story. With the murder of John Lennon over 20 years ago and the recent death of George Harrison, there are less and less eyewitnesses to a major shift in the cultural fabric that surrounds us. Anthology provides context and content as to why things changed in the 60's. They may not have been the catalyst of change but The Beatles made that change acceptable for good and bad. In our modern fragmented culture, there are few performers that could continue to have the same impact that these four people did have. Anthology provides a fascinating glimpse into history from the inside out.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Fantastic! Review: So very many books were written about the Beatles, and so many TV documentries were made about them. Anthology is definitely the best one yet, and I don't think there will ever be another book as complete and sincere as it. For the first time the Beatles tell their own story (yes, even John - material from old intreviews with him are beautifuly collected and edited into the book), along with some help from George Martin, Derek Taylor and Neil Aspinall and some old quotes from Brian Epstein, Mel Evans, Pete Best and others, and that makes Anthology a truly unique experience. The story is told from such a personal viewpoint that you will feel like you're part of the band. George, Ringo, Paul and John will become your closest friends for the period of reading the book. Anthology covers every (well, probably almost every) aspect of the Beatles' life and musical career. It starts as four seperate stories as every band member describes his childhood, then melds into the story of the band. All the interviews from the wonderful Anthology TV series are in the book, but so are many more. There are far more details - especially about the music itself, which was neglected in the series. While in the series some albums were hardly mentioned, in the book the Beatles refer to almost every song, telling a thing or two about its background. Also, more touchy subjects which were avoided in the series appear here - such as, the (phony) death of Paul McCartney, the (real) death of Stuart Sutcliffe, the unfortunate Hell's Angels incident and the terrible case of Charles Manson and his connection to the White Album. The photographs and documents shown in the book are facsinating as well. And no, it's NOT too long. The only problem with the book is its weight, which makes it quite uncomfortable to read. Anthology is a superb book, which reminded me why I used to love the Beatles so much and got me to hear all their albums again - twice.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The Bible for Beatles Fans Review: This is one of the best Beatle books ever! The first few times I read it, I looked at the pictures because there are so many. It is full of wonderful information about the Beatles from the Beatles themselves. Everytime I read it, I retain some new information, there's so much in it. The book has many pages and little type, but if you read it, you won't be disappointed. So, if you love the Beatles, this is the ultimate book.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The story of The Beatles, as only they can tell it. Review: The Beatles Anthology is a wonderful and very informative book on how the Fab Four came to be. Starting with the childhoods of the 4 men, ending with the Beatles' breakup in 1970, leaving not a moment behind. After reading this WONDERFUL, informative book filled with loads of pictures, I feel like I know every Beatle personally and that I was there for every performance, every recording session, every high, every low and EVERYTHING in between (even though I was born 16 years after the Beatles breakup). EXCELLENT!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Superb! Review: This is great - at last parallel histories of the group written by the four people actually involved. Their memories may be starting to fade a bit, but this is always going to be definitive and more reliable even than those closest to the group. This is an excellent introduction to the Beatles' history for those who know very little about them, just as it is a must-have for fans who know just about everything about them. There are some new pictures, but most as well-known to fans, and the book itself is a little unweildy, but these are minor niggles.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Beatles fans will like it Review: I liked the format of this book, the way it tells it in their own words helps represent all of the Beatles pretty equally (except John, for whom archive interviews are used). I do like the way the different perspectives come together to give you a fuller idea of the story, rather than just a one-sided view. If you're a beatles fan, you'll get something out of this (unless you've read every other Beatles book out there) A couple points about the book I'd like to comment on. 1) the book itelf is too damn big, making it annoying to handle/read. 2) Hey, sure, John Lennon was a genius, but I could do without him going on and on (and on) about how bad it was being in the Beatles, how he felt "trapped", etc. No offense, but I never fully bought this; I doubt he would have given it up for anything and beleive he rather liked being in the Beatles as it let him place himself above people. ...And on that note I don't really think Lennon had much of a right to complain about how his father leaving him at an early age had such a negative effect on him, especially when he went and ditched his first wife Cynthia for Yoko Ono and barely ever spoke to his son Julian after that! 3) Did you know that every idea the Beatles ever had came from Paul Mcartney? Neither did I, until I read this book. To hear him tell it, he even wrote most of John's songs (only the good ones, though).
