Summary: The Neverending Wonder of the Beatles
Review: At this very moment, they have an album on the charts, a bestselling rental, and now a book written by them. . . 26 years after their breakup and 20 years after John's death. Only the Beatles could pull off such a magnificent feat as all this.

Their new book The Beatles Anthology is nothing less than a work of art. A Sgt. Pepper for the printed world. Who could expect less from the greatest band of all time? The imagery is stunning and it is incredible to think about the fact that you are reading the words of the Beatles themselves. For any devoted, maybe even a little obsessed, fan such as myself, this is the epitome of any collection. Maybe I should not even say that because they never cease to amaze me and just when you think they can do nothing else. . . the impossible comes true.

Maniac, fan, or just plain interested, you should read this book and I hope you cherish it as much as i will.

Summary: Besides a Beatles CD, This is the Ultimate Gift For Fans
Review: Imagine (as John would say) if all the great artists of our time or any time had been able to tell their story themselves. Imagine if Callas had written about her first night at the Met. Or if Elvis put down into words how the Sun Sessions felt or the crackle of his first live performances. Or if Dusty Springfield had written about just how she was able to get that aching soulfulness into "Son of a Preacher Man." Okay, some of our greatest artists have had the chance and blew it (Aretha, the most revealing singer of all time is the least revealing teller of her own story). Within these pages Paul, Ringo, George and a bit of Yoko give us a big picture window into the life of the greatest pop band of all time. This book is a wonder and a joy. And it made me miss the genius, humor and intellect that was and will ever be John Lennon all over again. Bravo, boys. You've done a splendid job.

Summary: Not what I expected.
Review: This is a somewhat disturbing book. It tends to glorify the Beatles, in a way that has not been done since the 1960's. I am not sure John would be a big fan for this reason. He distanced himself from this kind of thing years before his death. In fact, one might argue that this is the kind of thing that attracts people to the band. Overall though I did like it quite a bit and would recommend it to those who know little or nothing about the greatest rock band in the history of western civilization.

Summary: Got to Get This Into Your Life...
Review: Just got the "Anthology" yesterday, and let me throw a few words at you:

Hefty. Dense. Comprehensive.

Pictures? It's crammed with them.

Is it readable? While most books made up of interview quotes can be frustratingly Helter Skelter, the quotes in "Anthology" are edited so that the book flows in a highly readable narrative style.

I feared that this book might be a cheap cashing-in. Rather, it's a beautifully mammoth effort.

Summary: Only time will tell if I am right or I am wrong
Review: Make room on your bookshelf beside "I Know What I Like" and "Hammer of the Gods" for The Beatles Anthology. If you're a rock 'n roller, you'll want to buy this book immediately--and possibly order one for a friend. No kidding--it's that good. You say there's nothing "whot" hasn't been writ about the Fab Four? Posh! This book is full of spicy trivia, from John Lennon's first ride around the block on his red tricyle when he was five, to Ringo's first experience using brushes. Did you know that it wasnt' until Rubber Soul that Ringo realized he was right-handed? It's true! This book is terrific.

Just skip the bits about Yoko and Julian's [sic] career.
