Summary: Great read!
Review: I'll admit to grudgingly reading this organizational memoir for a class. But now, I'm glad I selected Pour Your Heart Into It! Howard Schultz takes you from ground zero in the creation of a vision to share his love of the Italian coffee experience. He openly talks about his childhood and family, obstacles and inspirations along the way. Whether you intend to start a business or not, this book will urge you to be an active player in your life.

Summary: A nice story that inspires
Review: After reading the story of Starbucks, I now know that one of the world's most recognizable brands didn't really pop up overnight, it only seems that way. Behind the scenes, it took a lot of hard work on the part of everyone involved in the company, from CEO Schultz, to each and every barista ("waiter"). It was truly inspiring to watch Schultz chase his dream of making Starbucks into a fine coffee house, and a real people-oriented company. At times, however, it seems as though he chooses to turn the book into something of a personal memoir, instead of focusing on the people in the company and their contributions. Sure it helped add to the mystique of his rags to riches story, but it was probably overdone. Also, towards the end, I couldn't help but feel that Starbucks lost, or at least changed its vision, becoming too commercialized to cater to true coffee lovers. Oh well, as long as they make that great coffee. It's always interesting to get on the inside of a company and find out what makes them tick, and this is certainly no exception. Overall, a very enjoyable book. Never forget your dreams!

Summary: Something inspirational here!
Review: I found this audio cassette to be very interesting. Howard Schultz transformed this company from a small time coffee shop secluded in the Northwest corner of our country, into a world wide business allowing us to start our day with a fresh cup of coffee from virtually any location. Howard's sheer determination is motivation to us all.

Summary: Sorry, nothing inspirational here in the cassette
Review: I read all kinds of books and try to be open minded about what I expect from them. This audio cassette was like drinking weak tea and barely kept my attention. The author/actor never told me what forces were at work inside him, what drove him, what scared him, what motivated him. What should I have gained from this? Superficial and weak. Maybe the book was better as a reviewer indicated..save your money on the cassette...sorry.

Summary: A self serving book by a guy who has no principles
Review: As a person who has watched starbucks over the years, the book is nothing but self serving, this from a guy who I would describe as the ultimate carpet bagger. He was a plastic salesman, who made his way into a true coffee company and turned it into a greedy profit motivated company. This from a man who does not really care about coffee but profits.

The chapter where he says that he struggled for capital, which ordinary person can get such an impressive line of investors, certainly Mr. Shultz did have his connections.

It is interesting to note that most of his so called "principles" that he has proclaimed in his book are all pretty much abandoned in the name of profits. An example is their introduction of coffee into supermarkets and their marketing deal with Kraft Foods (Maxwell house).

I guess the average person who reads the book cant really read between the lines, for those who know the coffee industry, this book is more comedic rather than any real insight into the company.

All in all a really self serving book by a guy who knew how to hustle...he turned Starbucks which used to be a company owned by true lovers of coffee into a company owned by greed.

Summary: This is my second Bible
Review: My first Bible was 'Republic of Tea'. I am in the middle of setting my second bookshop. I face the same problem like Howard Schultz, I need captial. I have problem paying rent, salaries. When I was reading, I asked myself what I would do in his shoes. I have to admit that in a few instances, he was lucky. But, I believe he was quite disappointed at many situation, for example, not getting the support from his Starbucks boss and not getting the management to invest in his ideas. He has his firm belief, his strong confidence and I want to learn it from him. I am reading the book for the second time, bookmarked pages and pages to ensure I will get the motivation I need when I pickup the book again in the future. I am putting this book in my 'Bible ' collection. BTW, I love coffee !

Summary: A REVIEW FROM BRAZIL
Review: What a wonderful and inspiring life story! Not another theoretical idea of what the world itself should be shown by an eager CEO ... but a bright practical must-daily-exercise-philosophy taught by a very broad-minded human being. Congratulations, Mr.Howard Schultz and friends. Thanks, Amazon.com for this opportunity to review POUR YOUR HEART INTO IT.

Summary: DO NOT Buy the Cassette!!!
Review: I loved the book truly and madly so I purchased the audio cassette for my car. The prologue is read by Howard himself and its wonderful. THEN, the actor comes on.... Do any of you remember the voice of the man who did all of the narrations in 1960-1970 middle school science films? Well HE'S BACK!!! Monotone and uninspiring to say the least. Read the book but save the $15 and dont buy the audio book.
