Rating: Summary: A must have for any Parrothead's library. Review: This is one of the most captivating adventure books written. You will be transported into the adventures that Jimmy and his Family and crew embark on.Makes you want to spend winter island hopping with Jimmy.
Rating: Summary: A great way to travel. Review: Once again, Buffett offers a cheap way to book passage on one heck of an adventure. A Pirate Looks At Fifty offers a look back through his life and brings the reader along for a ride through the Caribbean.
Rating: Summary: SORRY JIMMY, STICK WITH SONGS MY MAN!!! Review: I tried to read this novel?, but it just didn't do it. Dry, boring and filled with ramblings about planes, trains and automobiles. Jimmy should stick with what he knows best, songs. He is a poet not a novelist. Please, to all Parrotheads, just because he wrote it, doesn't mean that it must be good. Give it an honest appraisal and you'll find out it doesn't live up to the hype.
Rating: Summary: Not only for Buffett fans, but a must read for all... Review: I don't like to read. But this summer I moved right through this book. I am a Buffett fan, but would have loved the book even if I had never heard his music. He covers so much of his life, from childhood to now. This is probably the best book I ever read, and I've read a lot in my school days. This book lets you inside the mind of the Man from Margaritaville...and it is one awesome ride!!
Rating: Summary: good geography lesson, but otherwise disappointing Review: I was very disappointed in this book. I am not a devoted fan but thought the book would be interesting. I was hoping for a more philosphical effort. How he got to where he is in his life. Not a compilation of went to college, did drugs, worked in bars, stopped drugs, learned to fly, etc. The work also contained a lot of, seemingly, unnecessary name dropping.
Rating: Summary: Jimmy's tales and dreams can heal your wandering spirit. Review: This book is a gentle ride to the edges of wonder where dreams and romance live in the moment. I am a Chi Gung master and a Shaman and I have found that Jimmy's mystical words have taught me how to sing healing yarns of adventure as I share his tales with plants, animals, and all who heed the call of a forever mind. Get this book, it will expand your view of life and carry you to the dreams and creativity we all knew as a child.
Rating: Summary: A feast for the eyes! Review: Jimmy shares his "Changes in Lattitude" with us as he travels to the depths of the Caribbean, and it works. For a recently-converted parrothead such as myself, this book offers valuable insights on the "man behind the mask" and showcases his genuine caring and wit. If I had one comment -- this is not a "one-day" read, but an epic that requires rapt attention. Be prepared to lay on a tropical beach with a margarita in hand to read this one -- it is an "investment" in time, but one that is well worth it!
Rating: Summary: Arrrggghhhh!!! Name Droppers R US! Review: I absolutely LOVED "Joe Merchant" and "Margaritaville", so it was with baited breath and joyful anticipation, that I cracked open "Pirate"...and began to read. That was MONTHS ago, and I'm STILL trying to get through it. Why Mr. Buffet has to resort to constant name dropping, people quoting and song quoting astounds me. Take all that away, and you'd have a book the size of a small magazine. Countless times I've had to stop myself from cursing out loud, and hurling the book across the room! Maybe I can finish by the New Year! Too bad. Stick to FICTION Jimmy...It is infinitely more entertaining!
Rating: Summary: This book is a must read for all Jimmy Buffett fans! Review: I would reccommend this book to anyone who likes Jimmy Buffett and books about adventure. This is a very adventurous book. It seems that after everything he does to get out of something, he gets back into it or another problem arises. He is descriptive in telling about things that happened to him and the places he went to during his trip to the Caribbean. If you liked his other books, you will love this one. It is easy to follow and makes you want to keep reading it. Once you start , you won't want to put it down. If your into Jimmy Buffett, and adventure, read this book. You won't be disappointed. Rating: Summary: A must read for any Buffet fan Review: Awesome - and I hate to read. He talks about all the places he has been, his plane crash, his family life, and how he got started in he music business. GOOD STUFF. Just the back cover alone is worth buying the book for.
