Rating: Summary: A thought provoking, inspiring and humbling book for anyone. Review: The journey of two highly intelligent bibilical scholars from protestant beliefs to Catholicism struck me as an incredible journey. The personal struggles as they came to grips with what their heart told them as true was touching. What is more important is how they used their expansive knowledge of scripture and christian doctrine to affirm Catholicism. It makes casual Catholics fell pretty humble in light of their struggle and appreciate what all there is out their to understand.Great book for Catholics and non-Catholics!
Rating: Summary: The Hahns quest for truth Review: Jesus is Lord of the Catholic Church. Scott Hahn writes a very moving memoir of his (and his wife's) conversion to Catholicism. Clearly shows the struggle of coming to terms with the Catholic Church's claims, I find it amazing they are still married because his conversion caused so much strife in their marriage. Lots of good scripture quotes (though there could be more). "Suprized By Truth: 11 Converts Give the Biblical and Historical reasons for Becoming a Catholic," is an excellent book to read before or after this one, and has more scripture. My husband was an evangelical Christian until he became a "Hahn-vert" by reading and listening to Hahn's reasons for becoming Catholic. God bless Scott and Kimberly for sharing this painful, but ultimatly joyful, story.
Rating: Summary: Scott Hahn's moving conversion story to Roman Catholicism Review: This is the story of Scott Hahn's conversion from outspoken anti-Catholic Protestant to defender of the Catholic faith. It is a moving conversion story.
Rating: Summary: Inspirational Review: By reading this book you can clearly see the Lord working in the lives of the Hahn family. The book is easy to read (I read it in a day) and gives good views of what the Catholic faith is all about. However, this book does not go into much detail. It merely explains what the beliefs are and some Bible references to back it up. It is definitely not a book that will explain all the answers, yet it certainly does make you think and want to read and discover more. I have had the great opportunity to meet Mr. Hahn and I must say that that I was even more impressed with him than I expected to be. The book clearly shows his personality and the love that he and his wife have for the Lord. A definite read for all Catholics and non-Catholics.
Rating: Summary: A must-read for people wondering about the Catholic Church. Review: Scott and Kinberly Hahn's journey was so enlightening to one is in the process of converting to Catholicism. Dr. Hahn manages to tell a great story and educate at the same time. I learned more about Catholicsm in this book than I had in 10 RCIA sessions! A great book for non-Catholics, as they will see the Church explained in simple terms.
Rating: Summary: I am not Convinced by Scott Hahn Review: Having read his book, I think many have to agree with me, the author and his wife heavily edited their 'journey' to make it sound convincing, and I am not convinced. The goal of his book was pragmatic - to win people to Roman Catholicism by whatever works. Particularly the mystics and the unread ones he preys, because his thinking was full of loopholes. After dialoguing with theologians, I found out Scott Hahn presented faulty arguments. For example, his reference to the key of city in the Book of Isaiah, as the Key of Peter, therefore Rome, is out of context - having nothing to do with the key of Peter as spoken of in the gospel. So how did he justify the Key of the Pope from the OT? Be very careful about falling in traps like this in his book. I also think while Scott tried to present his journey as one who was objective in his search, Kimberly Hahn strove to appeal to women, and to those who like the taste of emotionalism, gnosticism, and mysticism. My advice is, to do justice to the Reformation and Reformers, read Calvin's "Institute of the Christian Religion" and Luther's "The Bondage of The Will." Do not pass judgment on the Reformers till you have read the Reformers' works yourself. Don't be content reading what Scott Hahn says about the Reformers, do justice to them by reading them yourself. For a more dramatic reading of what the Reformation was about which Hahn believed was wrong, read D'Aubigne, Merle J.H.'s, (Pub. by Banner of Truth found in Amazon), treatment on this part of the history in Europe. I warrant you - Scott Hahn will not sway you so easily after reading the works of the Reformers. PS Did you know Luther recovered the gospel by reading Augustine, and Calvin quotes Augustine extensively in his writings? Their treatments of Augustine's work are theologically sound! Yet, think also of the stature of Augustine in Roman Catholicism, how can this be?
Rating: Summary: A good discussion... Review: Set this book aside only if you may be afraid of certain ideas... and a man's search for truth. Logical in its progression, rational in its arguments, this book provides food for thought for anyone who desires to see and understand all sides of Christianity. There will be those who shoot arrows at it merely for its premise... but most, I think, will delight in the challenges or affirmations it might give to their faith.
Rating: Summary: Warning - Dishonest Reports Contained!!! Review: Highly recommend AGAINST this book. Scott Hahn's theological conclusions are faulty, oftening borrowing from arguments already defeated by the Reformers (i.e. the legitamcy of pope, and church dictates Scripture). His dialogue with Dr. Gerstner is phony as 1800-phychic report; he repeatedly dismiss Dr. Gerstner's response in order to pretend he stumped Dr. Gerstner. Dr. Gerstner thought he never understood the Reformed faith. I only recommend this book if you like to read for yourself how to go down the wrong path of faith and fall into bad intellectual traps. Talk to an orthodox Reformed theologian and he will show you how ridiculous his arguments are. I personally feel sorry for Scott and Kimberly Hahn who eventually got trapped by mysticsm and medieval fabalism, especially for Kim.
Rating: Summary: Excellent!! Review: This book is truly fantastic - a beautiful description of how, first, Scott, and then his wife Kimberly, came to understand the truth of the Catholic Church, and all the difficulties they endured in this journey. I would recommend this book highly to Catholics and Protestants alike.
Rating: Summary: A dynamic and passionate story for all Catholics to read !! Review: I highly enjoyed this book as it was quick and dynamic reading for the Catholic who is unsure why "we do the things we do". Dr and Mrs Hahn give a new meaning to being Catholic--I highly recommend it to others and have shared my copy with many!!
