Rating: Summary: great Review: the story is outstanding, witty, kept me laughing and it keeps a constant flow and definetly does not drag. The author does a great job on telling her story as a child. And the i was reading the book, i began thinking about my own childhood memories. Written in the style of a child watching herself grow up,I found myself relating the coon-dog story to friends, as if Kimmel were a friend of mine, and I was recalling the story she told me personally. anyone can relate to Zippy for all of us have some of her in us. A great read, discriptions make you feel like you are right there and know Zippy. Kimmel shares her memories with an unlikely combination of warmth and sarcasm. Each person is shown to be a clown and a hero simultaneously, the author most of all.
Rating: Summary: !!! Grate Book !!! Review: This is one of the few good books that I have read. I recomed this book to anyone who has reading as a hobby, because every time you read it its like having a small movie in your head. Not to mantion it tells about Zippy adventures while growing up in a small town.
Rating: Summary: !!!Like A Small Movie!!! Review: Well I think this book was intresting because of all the adventures Zippy went through and I liked how the writer described each setting which allowed me to make an image in my head and it was like every time I would read it, it was like a small movie in my head.
Rating: Summary: I'm Zippy too! Review: When reading the chapters I felt like Zippy was about me. I know that I'm male but it just seems to have a lot of things inside that I can honestly relate to. Haven Kimmel was right on when describing or recalling, her life in Mooreland. I wanted to be Zippy's friend right there in Mooreland. It took me to a place that was so real as if I were there when Daniel Slapped Melinda, or when Zippy could smell the dead animals that the paramedics took out of Ruth's old house after she died. I would laugh and sometimes frown or almost cry just from the thought of the kind of life Zippy had and experienced. I would feel chills and my hair would stand up on my arms. I would like to read more books by Haven Kimmel. Lupe Nieto
Rating: Summary: A Girl Named zippy: Eng. Homework for West Hills College Review: Hello my name is Gus and i thought the book was alright. Zippy was not the best book ive had read. Its funny in certain ways, it could make you laugh believe me but, sometimes her plot did not make sense to me. I could question about what she went though her life and maybe relay about how she lived in a small town like i do. But everyone in that town is very different in that book.
Rating: Summary: A girl named Zippy Review: I believe that this book is really good. I enjoy reading it 'cause it talk's about her life. I enjoyed reading the chapter of when she goes to church but tries to stay home with her father who doesn't go to church at all. I like when the book starts out. In the way that she wanted to grow hair, and started to act like a grown girl. This is what i liked about this book. I really recommend this book to others who want to read something interesting. Something that deals with somebody's life.
Rating: Summary: lovely lovely lovely Review: I LOVED this book. I read it in one day and then two days later picked it up and read it again. Sometimes books have those little blurbs that read "laugh out loud." Zippy really does make you laugh out loud. I also loved Ms Kimmel's novel "The Solace of Leaving Early" She is truly a genius!
Rating: Summary: I loved this book Review: This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. The author vividly captures the atmosphere of her town and her times, and portrays the heroine with honesty and humor. I looked forward at the end of each day to picking this book back up and was sorry to see it end.
Rating: Summary: A pleasant journey through childhood. Review: A Girl Named Zippy is a pleasant journey through childhood in simpler times in Middle America before the introduction of video games, cell phones, compact disks, and personal computers (and all that they stand for); even that good old stand-by, the TV, didn't feature very prominently in Zippy's life. In these pages, you'll find the world from the viewpoint of a child, complete with eccentric grown-ups, childhood antics, pets, and the occasional creepy neighborhood kid (I could relate to that!). There were pleny of slow spots, particularly when the details of some events were a bit too drawn-out, leaving me with the feeling that the book was just a bit overdone. Still, nothing dramatic or shocking will be found here, nor the solution of world problems, just life-as-it-once-was for Haven "Zippy" Kimmel. A good light read, and for that reason, A Girl Named Zippy is decent entertainment.
Rating: Summary: Brought back memories! Review: As it usually does, the cover struck me! The book was amazing. It was one of the best books I had read in a LONG time. It brought back so many memories. Zippy had the greatest personality and I loved the way she communicated with people. She could just spit stuff out and it was perfect! My favorite part was when her grandmother called her mother and was questioning her about Jesus. I THOUGHT I WOULD DIE!!! I laughed soooo hard! I have told countless people to pick this up and enjoy it as much as I did. Haven is a gifted writer.
