Rating: Summary: Outstanding book! Review: This book is informative and very interesting. Once you start reading, you will not want to stop. I find the conclusions well thought out and the whole book will give you a fresh perspective on our first families.
Rating: Summary: All The Presidents' Children Review: This book offers, not just an exceptionally well researched history worthy of a reference tome to be used in a college course, but an extraordinarily good read. The author has achieved a most dificult task - to create, from an historical account, a book that involves the reader on both an intellectual and an emotional level. This book touches the reader in every way. I sincerely recommend it as a "must read".
Rating: Summary: First Families are real Review: This book was not only informational, but real. It gives an insight to real people who have positons of power in our nation. The presidents and their families are real people with real family issues, just like the rest of us. This book took a head on view of what happened in the lives of the presidents children, with no fluff, or opinion of poitical view. It's a great read!
Rating: Summary: Incredible Research ! Review: This is an incredibly researched book and one can live in the source notes just going from one to the next, finding the rich materials the author taps. Not sure how anyone can find it biased. He rates the Clintons and Bushes as good parents, Lincoln's come off indulgent, the Republican Reagans and Rosoevelts come off poorly. Lots to learn here about history long neglected.
Rating: Summary: Accurate, Loaded with info Review: This is more than a history book, it is a psychology book as well. I saw it reviewed on the Today Show and was smitten by the topic. The stories of youthful rommance in the White House were pure entertainment and fascinating but the accounts of how high achieving parents raised their children - or hurt them, was instructive. This book is one to re-read. Incidentally, the dates and facts in this book are very accurate and help augment reference books in my library with the wrong dates. Thank God for the internet, we can go to the various presidential libraries to get the facts and this one lines up remarkably well.
Rating: Summary: Must read for Lovers of History and Parents Review: This is one of the finest historical yet entertaining books I have ever read. This book is a must read not only for lovers of history but for parents raising children. Author, Doug Wead effectively presents timeless principles from the lives of America's leaders. I plan to purchase several more copies of this book as gifts for family members, co-workers and friends.
Rating: Summary: The definitive book on the subject Review: This is the definitive work on presidential children. And wow... there are some real shockers here, fascinating reading. And here is one volume that gets all the details right. For example, some sources incorrectly list an extra Amy Carter marriage that did not happen. Finally here is an accurate account of the serial marriages of FDR's kids. And at last an accurate account on the death of Robert Johnson. This is an invaluabale tool for researchers with more than a thousand source notes.
Rating: Summary: Be a better father Review: This was the most creative book on the presidents I have ever read. Just seeing their lives through the eyes of the children changes everything. But mostly I was motivated to be a better father. It is incredible to read about Lincoln, Roosevelt, Jefferson, Adams as fathers. It seems that life demanded so much that something had to give and that something was all to often the kids. Made me rethink my own role.
Rating: Summary: A Superb Inside Look at Presidential Families Review: This work has two great strengths. First the material is fascinating and includes stories that have been rarely told before. Second the author clearly has an insider's knowledge of what life in the White House is like. The fact that Wead served as an advisor to former President Bush and worked with the current President Bush makes it particularly inviting. I highly recommend it
Rating: Summary: All The President's Children Review: Thoroughly great read. I love how it is divided into section chapters so you can put it down (not that you really want to) and can come back and start a new section without having to go back and re-read to refresh. Even if you're not really into history you will enjoy this book. I learned a lot. Buy it today, you won't be sorry.
