Summary: mysterious
Review: The book Color of Water is interesting in many ways. The mother has a very interesting secret in life. She will never tell her kids who she really is. I wonder why she has to hide her past from her own children. I wonder if she is insecure about her own life and doesn't want to tell her children for that very reason. I have not read the whole book yet, but from what I have read I think it hides a lot of questions about her life that need to be answered.

Summary: Oh my God! What a great book!!???!!!
Review: When I first got a hold of the book " The Color of Water," it was even before school started. I do not usually read my school books unless I have to but then something inside knew that there must be something special about this book because I started reading it. "The Color of Water" touches on various aspects of life. Love, hurt and understanding are all intertwined with the lives of Ruth McBride and James McBride. All in all "The Color of Water" is a very interesting and fulfilling book but in the end I felt that James McBride did not really explore more of his mother. I saw no interaction between Ruth McBride and her kids except during times of trouble. James should explain more of how his mothers'life affected him and his brothers and sisters. I also think that the ending was somewhat hurriedly written. He could have told us more about how his mother and his other siblings are doing.

Summary: A tribute to an amazing mother
Review: I liked this book because it made me appreciate what times were like back then. Most people did not realize how hard it was for others to just "get by" but Ruth was able to raise her children, and put them through school, while never worrying about herself. This story can probably relate to life today, maybe in certain sections of big cities where housing is scarce and run-down. A lot of the same values apply to today's society. And what a woman for instilling these values in her children from the very start. If we had more moms like Ruth in this world, it would be a better place.

Summary: "Color of water" is a very moving and inspiring book.
Review: James McBride's "Color of Water" tells the story of finding the truth about his mothers past. It is very well written, wanting the reader for more. His mother, Ruth McBride, is the daughter of a Rabbi. Out of rebellion of her family, she marries a black man and bears eight children. She finds Christianity with her new found life style. Her husband soon dies and she tries to raise her children out of poverty. She has four more children by another black man. He also dies, but her strength gets her twelve children through college and medical school. It reminds us that one does not know his or her mother as well as one thought.

Summary: Interesting book
Review: Color of Water is a very interesting book. It shows how a white mother brought up her black son and the difficulties they went through doing so. It's a good book and will help you understand the human race more.

Summary: Touching description of simple feelings.
Review: When I opened the first page of this book I thought I was going to find yet another melodramatic story about racial segregation. After four pages, I couldn't stop reading this fine and human description of feelings, clash of ideas, racial contrast and not-affected but true love. A must. It's one of the best books I've ever read.

Summary: Highly recommened!!!!!
Review: This book was a very interesting book. It makes you think about all of the different problems people are faced with in this world and how we should all be looked at equally and not by our color. It also made me realize that in all ethnic groups there are capable, intelligent and outstanding people that are dedicated to their beliefs. Rachel Shilsky was this kind of person, raising her 12 kids to believe that an education was the most important part of life. This was a very touching story that I recommend to any reader.
