Rating: Summary: very well written Review: The color of water was a very insperational book. I think that it inspires many people who have been in Ruths position. I like how James went from his mom's point of view to his point of view of how it was back then. I would recomend this book to everyone that I know because it was just very interesting. I usually can't get into a book but this one just kept my attention the whole time. I never got borred and I actually read the whole thing.
Rating: Summary: This book was the best one I have read yet this year! Review: Hi, I am a 16 year old girl in eleventh grade. I had to read this book in English class. When I first got the assignment I was mad b/c I hate to read. Once I got into the book I absolutely loved it!! I had the hardest time putting the book down so that I could write my homework responses for my english class. My favorite part of the book was when Ruth(james's mother) Decideed that she was gonna learn how to drive again. James and her got in James's father's old car and Ruth tore out of the driveway like a maniac. She was all over the road and was driving way tooo fast! It was kindda funny cause she was laughing and she thought she was having fun, then when she got to the grocery store she slamed on the brakes and went in to get groceries. When she came back out she got in and drove very carefully home and then said that she was never doing it again. I though that it was funny how she just drove like that. I would recomend this book to kids and adults. I thought that this book was a very good way to see how people lived back then and how they struggled w/ the everyday hassles of poverty and racism. this book was very well put together and descibe the things that most of us wonder about.
Rating: Summary: A very moving, inspiring and most interesting book I've read Review: The Color of Water is the most amazing book I have ever read. It showed a lot of different emotions.I can't relate to Ruth when she talked about her childhood but I could understand what she went through. James McBride is a very talented author and he knew how to explain his life but didn't expect pity for his past life. This was a very moving novel and would definately recommend this book to all my family and friends.
Rating: Summary: Great book about Black and Whites living together Review: The Color of Water by James McBride tells a great story of a white Jewish woman living in a black area of New York City. This book tells a story from the author, James McBride and a story from his mother. His mother starts out as a Jewish woman living in Suffolk Virginia. She leaves and goes to New York city and marries a black man. It then goes on to tell about her life with her husband. If you want to know what happens you'll have to read it.
Rating: Summary: the best ever Review: i absolutely loved the boo
Rating: Summary: A must read! Review: This was such a great book. I reccomend it without reservations. At first I was skeptical, noy being a fan of family books but after 1 page I was hooked. This is the story of a courageous mother and her struggle to raise her children. This is also her story of growing up. I cried and cried and read on. It was passed around my whole office and beyond.
Rating: Summary: Spectacular! This book illustrates the essence of humanity.. Review: which is the ability to LOVE. After seeing James McBride on CSPAN II book T.V., I had to purchase his book. After reading his book I had to recognize that God has given "MOTHERS" the gift of love to rear and care for children of all colors...I not only commend Ruth McBride Jordan for sending all twelve of her children to college, but I thank her for showing that with anything is possible when you believe, and that all things shall pass...with time.
Rating: Summary: Read this uplifting book. Review: This warm and thoughtful book was a delight to read. It wasn't too sappy and it honestly dealt with some difficult racial issues.
Rating: Summary: An incredible book by a most extraordinary man Review: Words cannot describe the beauty of this book. Mr. McBride very eloquently tells his, and his Mother's, stories in a remarkable way. I was deeply touched by this book.
Rating: Summary: What a wonderful ride this story was! Review: I thorougly enjoyed this book. It is truly an amazing story, and I am thankful to Mr. McBride for sharing with the public an awesome story, and an awesome woman. God bless him and his mom.
