Rating: Summary: Strength x1000 Review: My Lord....what can I say? Dave Pelzer is one strong human being. The book is brief, but he gets the point across well. Abuse goes on in all different levels. This monster (I wont call her mother, because she was far from one) abuses poor Dave and leaves his brothers to laugh and poke fun of him in front of their friends. The father (who also shouldn't be called "Dad") saw everything and just drank it away. I haven't read the sequel and I hope that somehow Dave manages to survive the foster care cycle without much more scarring. He deserves all the riches the world has to offer! Bless you Dave!
Rating: Summary: Touching Review: This book was so sad. I couldnt believe a mother could do this to her child. What kind of monster is she? I mean I was so sadden by the story!
Rating: Summary: Unbelievably touching Review: This book touched me like none other has before. From the beginning to the end, it had me mesmorized by this young boys detailed accounts of the horrible life he had to live every day. It makes me sick to think some people think this is all a lie and David did it for publicity. What would happen if this had been you and all you were doing was trying to reach out to others in the same position and people shot you down and accused you of lying about it. The only reason it sounds so unbelievable is because it doesn't happen to most of us. Luckily, the people who don't believe this story never had to endure anything that awful. I gave this book a 4 because it was outstanding but left me wondering: Why did she do it? What happened to her? etc.
Rating: Summary: GOOD NIGHT! Review: Now I have read this book; and I have to say that this book can easily pass as a horror novel. Just by reading this book I suffered with Dave Pelzer as he was being abused in some of the most gruesome and sadistic manner. I felt every physical blow that he had encountered being inflicted on him by his mother. I also became depressed as the story continued and the parents' drinking had worsened and the family structure had started to break down. I think that it is a great triumph that he survived this abuse without turning into a hardened criminal blaming society for his woes.
Rating: Summary: I loved this book Review: I work in a daycare and one of my co-workers had a copy of this book. She loaned it to one person, then someone else read it until the whole staff read it in about a week! I read it in about 3 hours. I couldn't put it down. The abuse that David went through is unthinkable, but it really happens. It made me see how much I took my wonderful mother for granted and my own daughter. After reading this book your whole life will change, and David will be the only thing you think about for weeks or longer. I have read the other 2 books also and loved them all. David has changed my life forever. I love you, David.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: I couldn't put the book down. I want to thank the author for having the courage to write this book, and having the strength to survive.
Rating: Summary: A Child Called It Review: This book is about a child, who once had a very wonderful life. He and his family (his mother, father, and two brothers) would go on picnics and to the park quit often. They would have a great time. Then when he was in second grade the child's mother was beginning to change. She became very mean and abusive. She would harm the boy way more often than the other two children. The child's father was a firefighter and was not home very much. But of course, when he was home, the child felt much safer. This went on through his whole life, but in order to find out the rest, you have to read the other two books that go along with it The Lost Boy and A Man Named Dave.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: Honestly when I read the reviews for this book I couldn't wait to get my hands on it, but when I did I was extremely disappointed. To me it seemed like there wasn't really a storyline just mere talk. The story also seemed a little far fetched but now adays you never know. I guess the most disappointing part was the ending, it just ended without another thought no suspense- nothing, it just ended in the middle and took a giant leap to the end.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: This book was really great. It has definitely got to be one of the most moving things I've ever read. But there's this feeling that I can't shake, even though I think I'm wrong: I think that the author wants people to feel sorry for him. I get this feeling that everything's so pathetic, and here he his, trying to fight against everything, you know, acting brave and all that. But that's just me...
Rating: Summary: Will to Survive Review: I read both "A Child Called It" and "The Lost Boy" last night. I am looking forward to his third sequel which I ordered. I am deeply grateful that he held on to survive against insurmountable odds, though just a child. Though my heart ached and tears flowed as I read, I truly admire his unselfish spirit . . . to help, encourage, and uplift another "abused" child out of the darkest pit. I feel his story needed to be told to bring attention to the enormity of abuse which springs all around our unsuspecting eyes. Thank you, David, for sharing your heartbreaking, yet, triumphant life with us. May God continue to embrace you and Stephen is my prayer.
