Rating: Summary: save your money and time Review: This is one of the most poorly written, uninspiring, insipid memoirs I have ever read. It hasn't a heart, soul, or one truly moving, motivating, or thought-provoking word in it. It's like the script for a really bad movie-of-the-week or afterschool special. I will now be wary of any book that was/is on the NY Times best seller list! I really want my money back and thought about sending the book straight to the recycle bin, but will instead donate the book to a library for other poor readers to slog through. Buy and read When Rabbit Howls by Truddi Chase for a truly harrowing account of child abuse and redemption.

Rating: Summary: In his shoes Review: A Child Called "It" was a great book. I know people who have gotten abused but I never knew how they felt until I read this book. It makes you feel sad because you think your life is bad until you read this book and it makes you feel like you're always treated like a queen or king. From now on when I know someone is getting abused I will try my best to make him or her feel loved. He wasn't never loved, I don't know how that feel because I have a lot of people that love me and I have great mom and dad which he never had. I my opinion everyone should read this book you might learn something if you put yourself in his shoes.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book I've Read Review: I read the book A Child called It. This was the best book I've read all year. It really makes you feel like your feeling what the narrator is going threw. I started crying when I read some of the chapters. Overall this was a really moving book.
Rating: Summary: A Child Called "It" Review: The Child Called "It" By: Dave Pelzer Reviewed by: J. Relova Period: 1 It is a true story of Dave Pelzer, when he was a young, little boy, who was brutally beaten and starved by his emotionally unstable, alcoholic mother. She was a mother who played torturous, unpredictable games-games that left him nearly dead.He had to learn how to play his mother's games in order to survive because she no longer considered him as her son, but a slave; and no longer a boy, but an "it".The outside world knew nothing of his living nightmare, having to go through several days without food but nothing more than spoiled scraps that even dogs refused to eat and sleeping on an old army cot in the basement in his torn and raunchy clothes. He had nothing and no one to turn to, not even his brothers nor his father for they were scared to stand up for what was right. But his dreams kept him alive- dreams of someone taking care of him, loving him and calling him their son.On March 5,1973, Dave's dream of being free from all the evil torturing came true, when he had the courage to explain to the school nurse of all the scars and bruises on his body. I liked the book because it sent a really powerful impact on my reading perspective of this book. When Dave talks about his determenation, for example, to get his food ."When momma would forget to feed me, during my chores of washing the dishes, I would leave the foccit on and make my way to the trash can and dig out the scraps of meat and stuff as much as I can in my mouth, but momma would just beat me up more when I try...". Before I predicted that this book would be another boring book about a typical child losing his parents, but when I read it I couldn't put it down. Through each struggle,I find myself enduring his pain, comforting his lonliness and fighting for his will to survive. This is a very powerful book. I have rated this book 5 stars, so I have nothing to complain about this book. My favorite part of the book was when Dave got the courage to tell an adult about his mom abusing him everyday and how he got rescued and seperated from his mom because it was a relief to find out that he was rescued after reading all the types of torture his mom put him through. This compelling story awoke me to the truth of child abuse - and the ability we all have to make make a difference.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: The book A Child Called It was the most touching story I ever read. It was about a child who grows up being beaten and abused. The mother treates the other children like regular kids but in Davids case, it is different. She treats him worse then dogs get treated. Some of the horrible things she did to David were making him eat baby poop, feeding him bleach, making him eat throw up out of the toilet, starving him for almost two weeks, making him lay naked in a cold tub, forcing him to sleep on newspaper like an animal and she even stabbed him in the stomach which was in a way an "accident". To warn readers, once you pick this book up you can't stop, i finished it in under 2 hours. I reccomend it to ages 13-17. I am 13 and I understood and enjoyed how everything was written even thought it was a very disturbing story for a child
Rating: Summary: Mesmerizing reading material Review: This book, "A Child Called It", totally captivated me in the first few sentences. I had no intentions of reading this book. It was handed to me to just look over, when I started thumbing through. I finished in a few hours and could not tear myself away from the horrors this child went through at the hands of a sadistic, delusional mother. I have also read "The Lost Boy" and am now on his last book in this series, "A Man Called Dave"......he is truly a hero....
Rating: Summary: Child Called IT Review: The book I'm doing this on is Child Called It.I think this book was really good, but really sad. I liked the beginning where their family is almost perfect. I don't like the part when the Mom starts drinking and starts abusing the little boy. This book is very heart warming and touching. If you haven't read this book you should! This book lets you see how kids that are abused are treated. That's why I gave it 5 out of 5 stars.
Rating: Summary: "It" not enough Review: In the book, "A Child Called It", it tells about Dave Pelzer's life as an abused child. Although the book was very enjoyable, there were some things I felt needed to be explained. First of all, why does his mother begin to abuse him? The author never fully explains what happened to her. It goes from "Good Times" to "Bad Boy", without an explanation. While I was reading it, I thought they would explain it. Also, at what age does it begin? It says that he is a small child, but I believe as a reader, one would want to gain sympathy for the character if they knew how old he was when it began. I do strongly applaud and compliment Mr. Pelzer for writing of his courageous story through his childhood. I recomend that all 13 year olds, my age, should read this book. It was WONDERFUL
Rating: Summary: Amazing tale of survival Review: What an amazing tale of survival this is. How anyone could live through what the author endured is beyond me. while it's a great book, you'll find yourself wanting to put it down occasionally to catch your breath. This is a highly recommended tale that we, as a society, should have learned from, but didn't. When will it stop? Also recommended: McCrae's BARK OF THE DOGWOOD
