Rating: Summary: A Child Without Love Review: "A Child Called It" is an unbelievable recount of one child's will to survive. In a home where the child, Dave Pelzer, was tortured and punished in unthinkable ways for no reason at all, he never gave up. Being starved, beaten and treated like a dog and forced to drink ammonia mixed with bleach were some of the nicer things his mother did to him. Living the life Dave did, he still became a successful, compassionate adult.I think this is a wonderful, yet horrifying book. I can't imagine treating anyone like this. People actually do treat their children this way; its not just a story, it is real life. It is important that we remember that it is our job as a society to keep our eyes and hearts open to prevent these things from happening. This book is written by Dave, and it is wonderful because it is viewed through the eyes of the child. In the child's view we are able to feel his heartache, pain, triumph, joy, and all of the emotions that he felt growing up. I could feel what he felt, see what he saw, hear what he heard, and taste what he tasted whenhe was thrown a month old leftover. I felt as if I was there experiencing it with him. This makes it easier to understand what he went through.I would recommend this book to anybody who wants to have a greater understanding of child abuse. Be prepared to read the whole book, because you wont be able to put it down. Don't forget the tissue; this book is a tear jerker.

In a home where the child, Dave Pelzer, was tortured, and punished in unthinkable ways for no reason at all, and he never gave up. Dave was starved, forced to drink ammonia mixed with bleach, and beaten and treated worse than a dog, just to name a few of the tortures he underwent. Living the life he did, he still became a successful, compassionate adult. I think this is a wonderful, yet horrifing book. I can't even imagine treating anyone this way. Children actually do get tortured and beaten like this; it's not just a story, it's real life. We have to keep our eyes and hearts open so we can prevent these things from happening. This book is written by Dave, and it is wonderful because we are experiencing it through the child's eyes. This is an excellent quality for a book, because it allows the reader to feel what he feels, see what he sees, hear what he hears, and tastes the nibbles of food he occasionally gets. This allowed me to his pain, triamph, and all of his emotions that he felt growing up. I felt as though these things were happening to me; this makes it easier to understand. I recommend this book to teachers, parents, grandparents,or anybody who wants to have a greater understanding of child abuse. This is such a good book, you won't be alle to put it down until your done. It's a tear jerker, have a box of tissue near.

Rating: Summary: Drawn in Review: I haven't bought a book in years. But when I saw Dave Pelzer book. I was stangely drawn towards it. I picked it up and started reading it, in the middle of the store. Before I knew it, thirty minnutes had past and I was still standing in the same place with my eyes glued to the pages. I knew then, that I was buying the book. I took it home and read it all in one sitting. I can't rember any over book holding me captive like this one did. After I finished the book and it's meassge stuck with me. I was raised by loving parents and yet I could understand many of them feelings little Dave went though esspecilly the frustration, rejection and just not fitting in. I was reminded of a boy met one time who I knew was being negleted. I tried to befriend him but his mother thernted to call the police if I didn't get the hell away for her son. All I ever did was talk to him, while I did landscaping. she clearly saw that as a threat to her control on him. There was nothing I could do. (to this day I'm not sure what basis she though she had for making that threat but I stayed away all the same) My only wish is that david would do workshops that working (and often unempolyed) stiffs like me could attend. I was in dire need of inspiration when I picked up this book, and it delivered. I find it odd that such a dark story could be so inspiring. For those who think the writting was to simple I ask why do you think flowery words make a story any any better. As for those who think it was all made up, the less I say to you the better. The sequal is very good, I have yet to read the third in the series but I likely well very soon.
Rating: Summary: No truth held back, heart-breaking story. Review: I read this book in a hour and a half, it was so heart wrenching and you would definitly have to have a box of klennexs beside you. I really recommend this book. It was something that you never could imagine a mother doing to her son. Please read.
Rating: Summary: An inspiring book Review: This book was so inspiring to me, I mean I became part of Dave, and I wondered why his mother done so much to him and why did he feel guilty and try to lie for her? Why the father just left and quit standing up for him. I felt the want to help him so much and his little brothers. I was so glad that he finally got help, that he finally got out of there. Just as soon as I finished this book I had to read the second sequal THE LOST BOY; I was looking for some closure, a better ending. Some of my suspicions went away as I read and I began to feel better about his situation; in foster care. But the things he began to do ot get attention I thought he'd never do; because he was in an better environment. I finished this book and I'd recommend it; but if you've read the first one you'll not need a recommendation. The third sequal is out adn I want to read it so bad it's called A MAN NAMED DAVE and I think that after I read that book I'll have closeure to my wonders and my questions I've still got from the first book.

Rating: Summary: The best book I have ever read. Review: "A Child Called It" is by far the best book I have ever read. It is about a child named David whose mother is beyond cruel to him. She rarely ever feeds him, she doesn't even feed him once a week most of the time. Whenever he goes to school he sometimes steals food, and he is then punished for it when he gets home. His mother uses very odd and very cruel ways to punish him, she makes him drink Clorox and Bleach until his tongue starts turning raw and bleeding. She stabbed in the stomach with a knife and didn't even take him to the hospital, she made him continue with his chores as if nothing was wrong. David's father tries to help him at first, but eventually gives up and moves out of the house. This is a very good book, it is also a very sad book. It is hard to believe that a mother could be so cruel to her own son. He brings a note home from his teacher saying what a good student he was and how he got to name the school newspaper, his mother rips the note into snowflake pieces and tells him that no matter what he does it doesn't impress her because he is an it not a child. While you are reading the book you can actual feel like you are there with David going through what he is going through.
Rating: Summary: Too terrible to be true? Not at all. Review: I read this book and wished that young David could have been my brother when I was growing up in my emotionally abusive home. Things wouldn't have been great, but they would have been a lot better for him than with his own family. I would have loved to put my arms around that little boy and draw from his inner strength, and love him the way he deserved.
