Summary: A Chiled Called "It" review
Review: Online Review

A Child Called "It" is a fascinating book! If you read this you'll want to read it all the way through and never put it down. David Pelzer remembers every detail about his childhood life. The book is about David Pelzer's life when he was young. He was beaten very severely by his mom, but his brothers never were touched harshly. His dad didn't hit him, but also didn't say anything to his wife. He just watched. David explains all the hard times he went through. For example, he explains how he had to steal food from class- mates to avoid starvation. He'd have to run home from school and clean the house. His mom would make him strip down and get into a freezing cold bath with his head underwater, only breathing through his nose for 2 hours while his brothers and their friends came in, watched him, and laughed. He would sleep in the garage with only a jacket to warm him. One time his mom turned on the gas stove, had him take off his clothes and forced his body onto the stove. His mom would put disinfectant spray all around the garage and would stick 8 year-old David in there for hours, barely breathing because if he did, he would inhale the chemicals and get even more hurt or sick. The chemicals would burn in his throat and lungs. He called that the gas chamber. Everyday he'd have to come to school and make up another story his mom would tell him, to explain all of the burns, bruises, or whatever torture his mom put him through. It was said to be the third worst case of child abuse in the state of California. This book will make you want to cry and go back and help this poor lonely kid, who didn't have any friends because his mom wouldn't let him away from torture. But now David Pelzer is an adult and writes his experiences in A Child Called "It" and the other books in his trilogy. It is by far the saddest book I have ever read, but one of the best!

Summary: A Child Called "It"
Review: The book A Child Called "IT" is a very sad and depressing autobiography about an extremely bad case of child abuse. The story accounts for David Pelzer's life from the age 4-12. The main plot is how David was treated by his mother. He had an older brother and two younger brothers. His mother was only mean to David, however. The father worked a lot and did not put much effort into helping to solve any of the problems at home. As the problems got worse the father came home less and less, and spent more and more time at work. Both parents were alcoholics. The mother believed that David was the bad child, even though he was no different than the others. The things she did to him were truly horrifying! She would beat him and starve him. And once, when she let him have some food, she purposely spoiled it, so he got sick. She made him live in the garage, and he was not allowed to play with the other children. She made him drink ammonia. Once she even put him in the bathroom with a bucket of ammonia and cloreen and the chlorine almost killed him. I can't even express how intense and sad this book was. I would recommend it to anyone who was interested in a book full of keeping faith through unimaginable struggles!

Summary: A Child Called "It"
Review: The heart wrenching story of David Pelzer's childhood in A Child Called "It" fills the reader with rage and sadness. This epic description of a child's horrific experience and will to survive will with no doubt place a strong impact on all who embark in reading it. This all too true story is about the child involved in the 3rd worst ever child abuse case in California. After reading this book, you'll know what I mean when I say it is frightening to even imagine what the 1st and 2nd worst cases could be like. As a young boy, David enjoys a perfectly happy childhood, alongside his two brothers. But for some reason unknown to us, his mother begins to turn on Dave when he is about five or six. Through her heartless abuse games, we see an innocent boy drawn towards death on more than three different occasions. At some point Dave realizes that the only way he'll ever survive, is if he can out smart his mother and the family who alienated him. Though there was not too much suspense in the outcome of this book (seeing as Dave himself obviously survived to write it), I'd rate it up at the top along with my personal favorites. The story will undoubtably pull you in from start to finish, often leaving you in anger, shock and tears.

Summary: A child Called "It"
Review: A Child Called "It" By David Pelzer A Child Called "It" is an excellent book to read. This boy went through it all, from his mother starving him to her stabbing him. His mother taught him to say that everything was an accident so that she wouldn't get caught abusing him. She made him wear the same outfit the same day for about 2 years. Just before the abuse started she was the best mom in the world to him. The whole family would go down to their cabin and have the greatest time in the world, going fishing with their dad and swimming with their mom. David was really close to his younger brothers. They would go outside and play baseball and basketball. One day David's mother all of the sudden turned evil(as he states). She started getting after him for even things he didn't do. She told him that he couldn't go outside because he was a bad boy. At first it wasn't that bad, but then she would make him do all these chores and he couldn't talk, eat, or even get up and walk without her permission. One day, before David's older brother came home, his mother told him to strip off his clothes and only leave on his socks and underwear. She lead him into the kitchen and started up the gas stove. She told him that she saw an article on another mom doing this to her younger child. She took his arm and put it on the gas fire. After that she told him to lie on the stove. A couple of years after that incident David was living down in the garage and he slept on a cot with an old leather jacket for his blanket. Every day David's mother found a way to abuse him in any way that she thought would be amusing to her. David's dad was always away on work so he was never there to protect him. One day while David's dad was away his mom thought it would be amusing if he didn't get anything to eat at all, so she starved him for 10 days. Read this book to find out what happens to David.

Summary: "A Child Called It" - Seen from the other side of the line
Review: A sad and disturbing short autobiography, crafted by a very brave author in a bid to perhaps spread his message of hope a little further. His tragic tale of abuse is portrayed harrowingly as he writes through the eyes of himself as a young boy. This dislocates any adult analysis and reflection from his story, resulting in a straight forward tale of his everyday life. I found myself taking for granted that the mother created a home-made gas chamber for him and it was not until i put the book down and thought about it that i realised the extent of the horrific abuse he endured. I cannot say that i enjoyed reading this book, although it is undoubtedly one of the most gripping reads I have ever read. I thoroughly reccommned the reading of it as it is highly successful in its message and intention and you will definitely learn essential moral values from it!

Summary: A book called "Excellent"
Review: If you are a squirmish person, then this book is definetly notfor you. It consists of a mother forcing her child to eat dipercontents. Of a mother who doesn't feed her child. Can you handle that sort of thing? If you are like me, and can shed a tear but not throw up extensively, then you can see how wonderful this book is. There will never be a book like it, and I plan on buying the next two of this entising book series. This book is about a child who is abused by his mother. There's a summary for ya. But that can hardly give you the slightest clue of the wonder, the experiences, and the feelings that Dave Pelzer has done in 182 pages. Read this book. That's all I have to say. Do it for yourself.

Summary: Who knows but Kudos to my fellow reviewers?
Review: Well I'll admit that I too was appalled and maybe a little doubtful that everything in the book was bible truth. However, as I read the other reviews (especially the negative ones)I felt I should point out that it is told from a CHILDS perspective. Maybe it wasn't three weeks of starvation but I'll bet it felt that long. Another point is that times have changed over the past three decades and back then people didn't feel as empowered to help abused children. The ever prevailing "it's none of my business". Now days everything seems to be everybody elses business. The negative reviews also wanted to know why the mother changed so quickly and why only one child? One can only hypothesize. Want to learn more then read the rest of the trilogy. Maybe David did make himself out to be a hero and in a sense he was. In conclusion I would like to pat all the reviewers on the back who gave the author words of encouragement it's nice to see that people are still capable of compassion. Why only three stars you ask? Well I'm a little bit jaded I guess.

Summary: Horrid
Review: I think that A Child Called It is a very emotional book. It involves abuse to a young boy named Dave. It is emotional because it is a true story. David's mom once shoved David's face into a pile of poop. It was very disturbing. If you like true, detailed stories, than this would be a good book for you to read.

Summary: The All Time Best Book
Review: A Child Called "It" in my opinion is the all time best book I have ever read. It is a story about an abusive mother who plays horrible games with her child. He believes he is no longer a chld but a slave, "an IT." This book is very sad and inspirational. I recommend this book for anyone who likes to read sad and emotional books.

Summary: Great book, sad but inspirational.
Review: This book was great. It gave the reader an in detail look at how terrible someone's life can be, yet still have the will to survive. I have read the first two and am looking forward to reading the third of this trilogy. I wish I could meet Dave Pelzer. I'm sure I'd be touched just by his presence.

I do have criticisms though. Dave is a much better writer than I, but I still don't think this book is Pulitzer Prize material. It was VERY well written, but not amazingly written. What made the book so moving was the story in itself, not how well the story was written. I could name dozens of books that were much better written and not considered for a Pulitzer Prize.

However, this was still a VERY good book and I would suggest it to anyone. Especially if you like books that you can't put down because you HAVE to know what happens next.
