Rating: Summary: Inspiring Review: This book really opened my eyes on how bad child abuse really is. It made me think of how bad off some children are in there home life. This book makes you treasuer the simpless things in life, like a tolet or loving familiy, things kids now of days take for granted.
Rating: Summary: SAD LONEY AND LOST Review: This amazingly true story about a young childs fight for servial is a very depressing novel . I have to say it was worth reading but nothing wonderfull . Everthing seemed to repeat it's self like one of those never ending aguments . I almost felt as if I read the book three times in a row . I do have to say it kept me reading on at a fast past and i finished the same day i started it . I'm sure you'll love it if your one of those people who love true stories and are touched by a childs servial .
Rating: Summary: A very brave child Review: Be prepared to get upset when you read this book. It is absolutely shocking how a mother can treat her own child and how weak Dave's father was against protecting him. I can only feel immense gratefulness for those teachers etc. who suspected his treatment and ended up helping him escape the nightmare world of his family. I am about to read 'The Lost Boy' - part 2 of the story - and hope it shows a happier period of time for him. Dave Peltzer must be one of the most courageous people living for getting through the awful childhood he found himself in.
Rating: Summary: A child called it Review: This kind of book is'nt my usual cup of tea, but once I started reading it and being drawn into David nighmare world I could'nt put this book down. quite simply one of the most moving books I have ever read. David's honesty catalouging the systamtic abuse is refreshing. Good luck David
Rating: Summary: Haunting Review: I believe i was 16 when i read this book. Being 19 now. My mother was reading this book. I asked her (like i do most of her books) if i coudl read them when she was done. She told me that she didnt know if i was ready for such a book. But she trusted me and let me read it. It took mo only one day to read the book, and every moment of it left me breathless. I was so amazed at teh horrific toture this child went through. Stuff that doesnt even flow from the penns of slasher flicks is contained in this book The most haunting thing is that it is true. I know that real life can never compare to fiction, but i almost had my doubts. To the point where my mind woudlnt let me believe that it was non-fiction. It didnt want to realize that somewhere there is probably a child in this same situation. You never just have one. There are other mothers out there like this one. Its scared me, it made me realize just how good i have it. Then i read the lost boy...upon learning that these unspeakable event took place in towns not more then 10 miles from where i live even more took my breath away. And the fate of the mother... i can not divulge. but many times during the book i thought to myself... now if i could only figure out where exactly this place is someoen is going to have a very bad tomorrow. I recomend this book to anyone who htinks that they have a life in hell. you do not even know what hell is... if a small child can survive this.. you can survive too. my only regret is that i can not give it more stars.
Rating: Summary: horrible book Review: THIS IS THE WORST BOOK THAT I HAVE EVER READ! IT IS SO BORING AND DULL. THE GRAMMAR IS SO BAD IN THIS BOOK. IT'S JUST SOME STUPID ACCOUNT OF CHILD ABUSE. IT IS SO DEPRESSING. I DON'T EVEN WHY PEOPLE LIKE THIS DUMB BOOK SO MUCH. I THINK IT'S BECAUSE THEY FEEL SORRY FOR THE LITTLE BOY. PEOPLE TRY TO COMPARE THEIR LIFE TO THIS "IT." THEY SHOULDN'T DO THAT BECAUSE THIS IS CHILD ABUSE, AND IT IS A "CRIME." A LOT OF KIDS DON'T GET ABUSED, AND EVEN IF THEY DO, IT'S NOT THIS WAY. YOU MUST REMEMBER THAT THIS WAS THE WORST ACCOUNT OF CHILD ABUSE IN CALIFORNIA HISTORY. SO TO SUM IT UP, THIS IS A DUMB BOOK.
Rating: Summary: Phenomenal...... Review: A friend of mine mentioned she was reading this book and really grabbed my attention (being abused myself as a child; although not near to this extreme). Out of curiousity, while at my local library two days ago, I looked for the book and found it. Now two days later, I finished the book and cannot sleep. I have two children of my own and this book has helped me in my parenting already. I have told my children how much I love them over ten times each in the last two days, and have tried to make life as pleasant for them as possible. I also mentioned some of the less horrid bits of the story to my children (ages 6&7) as they watched me enthralled in the pages. To "Dave"........You are a remarkable man. I have the utmost respect for you. You are truly an amazing human being.......and pray you have found the love you so deserve.
Rating: Summary: A Great Series to Read Review: This is such a great series to start reading. The misery that Dave talks about, as some said, gives us an idea behind what it is like to grow up in a house of abuse. His courage is very amazing. Dave puts child abuse in a light that authors without having experienced it can not. Even with my Learning Differences (and reading problems) I could not put down any of the books by Dave.
Rating: Summary: Great read Review: I first read this book in at a bookstore, and if it weren't for other customers sitting around me, I would have bursted into tears. This book truly shows the side of child abuse that most dont ever know or even want to believe. It's written in voice/language of a child, like Dave was in his first book since "child called "it" " is about his life from age 4 - 12. It is as if Dave, "the boy" is telling the story as it is happening, not Dave the grown man telling us his childhood.
Rating: Summary: I hope this book will be translated into Japanese. Review: I am a Japanese attorney at law who has an experience of handling a child abuse case. When I was reading this book, I wanted to stop reading whenever I turned up the pages because what had happend to the boy was so terrible. But I couldn't. I wanted to know what had happend to the boy precisely and continued reading. I was impressed by the fact that he broke the cycle when he became a father after suffering from such a severe abuse. I wonder what kind of treatment he got. Before reading this book, I firmly believed that to solve the child abuse case, it is important to have a treatment model, not a punishment model, because most of the abuser are the one who had an experience of child abuse. But after reading this book, I realised that my feelings had changed and I wanted to punish them. In Japan, nowadays, child abuse is a severe problem like in the US and people are getting aware of the existence of child abuse. There are many books about child abuse now in Japan. But I think there aren't any books written by the abused children. I hope this book will be translated into Japanese.
