Review: this book touched me in ways that i cant even begin to describe here. it is the story of a young boy whose childhood lasted until the age of about 5. in those 5 years, he had a loving, caring, warm family where father went out and worked, mom took care of the house, the children and took time to teach the simple lessons in life. family vacations and day trips were a huge part of life and this family loved one another. for reasons not yet understood by the reader, things started to change. events described lead the reader to believe that the mother suffered some sort of depression perhaps bi-polar, but again, this is never explored in this book. through the eyes of david, we learn of how far she will go for the "game". at times while reading this book, tears came to my eyes....disgust came to my face and finally, a sense of freedom came to my heart. to imagine that a human would do these things, with intention, to another human.....let alone a mother do this to one of five children (yes, she had five children! ) is unbelievable! the search for ways in which to get food became his life. from stealing from the lunch boxes of the other kids at school to speeding through his "chores" in hopes of having dinner tonight, its all about survival. dave pelzer is a survivor....and because of him, the next time i feel like yelling at my eight year old daughter, i will hug her.

Summary: The Best written case of abuse for a child I've read
Review: This book was an unbelieve true story of a mothers abuse to one of her childern. I can't get over the things she did to this poor child. This is one of those books you won't be able to put down. The courage and strenth that this little boy has show is amazing! This is definatly a must read for True Story book readers!

Summary: YOU WILL NEVER FORGET THIS STORY
Review: Although I knew the subject matter NEVER could I have ever imagined the level that torture could go. The story is so graphic and compelling that once you start the journey you'll ride it through to the end, in one sitting. The only time I put the book down was to take gasp in horror because the subject matter was so disturbing. I was horrified by this story. How could a Mother could do such things to her child just because he was born! What kind of Father would stand by and allow it to continue! Two older brothers and neither would protect their younger brother? A school system would take 6+ years to confront and report what was so blantly obvious? The hell that David endured is a story you will never forget, nor will his will to survive. May God bless you David.

Summary: Unbelievable
Review: The book "A Child Called 'It'" is a very touching account of a young boys life. I myself cannot even begin to imagine what that child went through. I myself as a mother cannot picture the things that Dave's mother did to him. It would take a monster to torture your child to the extent that she did to him. The way she turned the other children against him and minipulated his father to eventually leave the family. I am looking very forward to reading the next book that he has written.

Summary: Inspiring, and strong... this book broke my heart
Review: This book was beautifuly written, and it kills me to feel the pain through the eyes of an child. I believe it is very important for all to understand the truth of child abuse, however this book killed me inside. I read on as Dave Pelzer's faith in his parents was destroyed as his once loving mother tortured him in such horrible ways, and as his father turned his head to ignore Dave's pain. This was a book that I am sure will definetly serve it's purpose, yet I put the book down wondering what happened to his family, and why David was the only one to suffer under his crazy mothers awful treatment. Definetly a book to read, but a forewarning is definetly neccessary.

His writing enables the reader to view the world through his eyes as a child. Pelzer makes the reader visualize the physical, mental and emotional abuses in an effort to induce recognition and intolerance. As a survivor of child abuse and neglect, I am also an advocate for awareness. These harrowing accounts serve a dual purpose: to raise awareness of the many forms of child abuse and its long lasting affects; and to attest to Pelzer's courage and character - providing hope for those who do/have experienced the same challenges.

Summary: A Child Called 'It' : One Child's Courage to Survive
Review: I read alot of books and this had to be one of the scariest books I've read. The fact that someone could hurt their child this badly is heart wrenching. I'd suggest this book to everyone. It's sad but shows what it's like to be the child who gets abused and how they need to depend on others to get them out of these kinds of situations. Definatly the best book I've read.

Summary: GOD BLESS YOU, DAVE! YOU ARE A VERY INSPIRING PERSON!
Review: This is one of the saddest books I have ever read. Mere words do not do justice to the voice of clarity and reason Dave brings to his horrendous youth with his psychotic mother. The extreme cruelties inflicted on this child are darts and one's conscience is the bull's eye and this book hits the bull's eye with deadly accuracy. You will never forget Dave. You might even cry if you read this book. It is a book that will certainly remain fixed in your memory long after you read the last page. God bless the folks who went to bat for Dave and I, like many other readers are delighted with the gift of Dave and the insights he has shared. He is truly a brave and inspiring person.

Summary: More pain than anyone has the right to feel
Review: I hated reading this book. Not because it was a badly written book, or because it wasn't a story worth telling. On the contrary, the book was reasonably well-written, and stories of how badly some of our children are abused by those who are supposed to love and protect them need desperately to be told. I hated reading this book because I was so angry at both of David's parents, so frustrated that the signs of abuse went on for so long, that at times I just wanted to fling the book across the room, crawl in a corner, and cry my eyes out. It was, frankly, almost too painful to read. A couple aspects of the book itself did disappoint me. Mainly, I wanted to know what in the world happened to David's mom to turn from such a loving woman into such a monster. And why did she turn her wrath on David, as opposed to the other children? That drove me nuts, wondering what it was she perceived about David that made him, and not the brothers, the object of her cruelty. (Please understand, I do not suggest in any way that David "asked" for the abuse. Rather, I am wondering what was going on in her warped mind that would lead her to think David, and only David, deserved this. Or were the other boys abused, in ways David, as a child, could not comprehend?) We never get the answers, or even any kind of educated speculation. Maybe David addresses this in the other two books, but as angry and depressed as I got reading this book, I'm not sure I can emotionally handle reading the other two books any time soon.

Summary: Simply Amazing
Review: This book was simply the most amazing, moving, heart aching book that I have ever read. I will remember the story of David's courage forever and I am now in the process of reading his follow up books and hope that they will be just as good. Once I started reading this book I could simply not put it down and finished it in less than a day. Good luck to David and God Bless. XXXXX
