Rating: Summary: A Child Called "It" Review: A Child Called "It" is an autobiography about a young child who was abused by his mother and neglected by his father. David Pelzer, the young boy in this story, was born into a family who at first loved and cared for him. Yet then everything changed so quickly for David as his mother and father began arguing more and more. The problems between his parents led to his mother abusing David severely both physically and emotionally. This was how his mother often blew off her steam and blamed David for all their problems. Though David had siblings, he was the only one abused. While reading this novel, it sent chills down my back just reading about all of these terrible things this poor boy had to go through. It often made me wonder how a mother could be so cruel. The only positive thing I found in this story was that maybe by reading more of these books on abuse, we can learn from it and prevent more cases like these from happening. I admired and was amazed by how this boy survived. This book can also be thought of as a self-help or motivational story. (...) To whoever wants to read a sad story that was written well. This book is more for the mature reader due to some violence and disturbing events. I really enjoyed this book and will have to read the sequels!
Rating: Summary: The Bravery and Courage of David Review: If you can't handle explicit descriptions of child abuse this book is not for you. A Child Called It is a very inspirational book to those who have gone through this or who are going through it. (...) Overall it is a good book for what it is, and is a help to all those experiencing this or who know it is going on.
Rating: Summary: Wilkins 7 ,A child called it Review: Reading A Child called it makes you think about how well off you really are. Some people complain about how restricting their parents may be and how they are sheltered, but at least most of us have parents who care about their kids, unlike David's mom. I guess you can say A child called it is a good book, but its about child abuse so there's not many positive things you can say about this book. This book is very graphic and has many details about the torture David received form his mom. Some of the torture sessions were so horrid that is sounded too bad to be true. I do think the author might have elaborated on some aspects of the book just to make it more interesting. The best part of the book is the end, because that's where all of David's troubles end.
Rating: Summary: Suspense?? Review: If you are looking for a "hopeful" or maybe an "inspiring" novel or book, return this book. "A Child Called It" is about a child who is abused, tortured beyond belief, slapped, stabbed, and all of the above. Don't expect to see a happy ending either. In order to get the rest of the story you will have to purchase his next two books. Overall, the reader experiences the journey of David and his attempt to stave alive in his "prison, but the reader is never given any hint of hope lacking the suspense to keep the reader interested in David's story. If you want to hear about the abuse of a child around the age of two, this book is perfect for you, but otherwise I wouldn't recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Bravery and courage of David Pelzer Review: If you can't handle very explicit descriptions of abuse and torture stay away from this book. It was a very good book for what it was. It begins with David's rescue so you know that he turns out ok. It then immediately jumps into how it all began. Everything started out great...they had a wonderful family and always spent time together. Then his mom just went crazy and I guess she was tired of trying to meet everyone's needs, so she decided to take it out on David. Why she picked him to be so cruel to is never quite clear. She starves him and treats him like a slave, making him stay in the basement in a 'prisoner of war' position. His mother absolutely despises him for no apparent reason, expect that she has gone completely insane. It's also difficult to read because the people surrounding his life know what is going on, but don't attempt to do anything that helps. His father is the most upsetting character. He starts off trying to help David by talking to his mother and trying to calm her down, but it never worked and he just quit on David and left him to suffer alone. Overall it's a really good book on how to survive and make it through even the most unimaginable situations!
Rating: Summary: This book is amazing Review: I could not read it but yet i could not put it down. As the mother of two boys this book hurt me more than anything but yet it also intrigued me. I do not understand how a mother can pick out one child and hurt him as horrible as she did. I immediately came home and could do nothing but hug my boys because I could not imagine ever treating them as David's mother did. She does not even deserve a name. As far as I am concerned she is an It. She is insane and I am so proud of David for overcoming that and giving us an opportunity to love our children more. If that make sense. I guess if you have read the book you would understand that statement. I do love you David
Rating: Summary: Strength from A Child Review: It's amazing how when I was young I thought the punishments I received were horrendous. After reading "A Child Called It" by David Pezler I am greatful for the merger discipline I received. As a child he survived through what most adults would not be able to survive now. The pain and agony of withstanding his mother's tantrums must have been unbearable. This book had me feeling as if I was David. How could a mother stab her own child and turn around and act as if nothing happened? Pezler's book shows the world has many skeletons that it have yet come to face.
Rating: Summary: Dave Pelzer's Account of Child Abuse Review: After a second reading of this horrifying story, I am certain about two things. First, a child at the age of eleven should never be stabbed, torched, and/or forced to drink ammonia. Second, a child knows no different between right and wrong; if that child was "conditioned" to believe that right is wrong and wrong is right, the legal guardians should take all the consequences of this teaching. Also, no excuse is a good excuse to beat a child. To take revenge by abusing a child [like in A Child Called It, where the mother punishes Dave because the father is never home] is not only wrong, but I think that the consequence of these actions on a little child should be a life-sentence in prison. Of course, I may sound harsh, but anyone who has read this book will confirm that a life-sentenece sounds reasonably just. Overall, I believe Dave's story brings to light the dark, dark side of child abuse. Before I read this book, I never realized that abuse can go as far as it did in Dave's situation. I recommend the book to everyone even the squeamish. It's a well-written story that forces a connection between the reader and Dave. Therefore, readers feel the pain, fear, and hope that Dave exudes.
Rating: Summary: A Great Book to Read in Study Hall Review: The book started when his family lived a very good life. David's dad works and his mom was a stay-at-home mom. David has two brothers. Then all a sudden, David's mom and dad became alcoholics and would beat and not feed David. His mother would do most of that and his dad would try to stop it, but his mother would keep on doing it. David would have to do all of his chores before he would go to school. His Breakfast would be the rest of his brother's breakfast. He would get stabbed and would wear the same cloths everyday to school. What I liked about the book was that it was interesting and made you feel like you are their. There was nothing in the book that I didn't like. This the first book of the series. This book is nothing like the book that I have read before. You can find the book at in the library.
Rating: Summary: The Realizations: Review: Marissa Unison, A reviewer, I have been a non-fiction readers for years, recently turning to Memoir style books. Then I read a book called Nightmares Echo, This story told about child abuse and sexual abuse of a particular child. It was then that I set my sites on books with this type of subject. It led me to this book, A Child Called It. This has got to be one of the worst cases of child abuse I think I have ever read about. It is told in a matter of fact, no holds barred style. It is an awakening to the reader as to what actually takes place with a child that lives through and deals with a life such as this. The courage is astounding. If you do anything, get involved. Read about child abuse, read A Child Called It...see what is happening around us. Get involved to help stop it in some way. [...]
