Rating: Summary: A Will To Survive Review: This book was amazing, I've never read a book that kept my attention so well. The games David's mother played against him were bizarre. I have to say I've never read a book this great or this sad. David is the most bravest and the most inspiring person I've ever read about. David deserved a better than what he had with his so called "mother". This book taught me a really good lesson. I thought me to no one, no matter what, should be abused. To treat other as you would treat yourself. You don't know how good you have it until you read it yourself.

Rating: Summary: Be Grateful and Thankful Review: Dave Pelzer is a great author. I enjoyed both of the books that Mr. Pelzer wrote. "A child called it" was the first book that I've read and I was so into the book I couldn't put it down. I enjoy the struggles, conflicts, and the emotional problems that Mr. Pelzer went through as a child. I enjoyed him as a person having the dignity and the strength to speak out to the world about his troubled child hood. Reading "A child called it" made me really realize how blessed and grateful I need to be. I've realized that there are kids that aren't doing good, and aren't getting the love they deserve. "A child called it" pin pointed a lot of hurtful times that Mr. Pelzer came across which a lot of kids take for grated in today's world. Mr. Pelzer is a great author and I enjoyed both books because it didn't have pictures so the reader had to really focus and imagine each situation. Today in life many kids feel that their parents or Guardian may take control are yell at them to much or even spank their children. My mom use to say it's because of love I don't want you to do it again and I learn from that mistake. But in Dave's situation his mom use to torture him for no apparent reason and I feel deep in my heart that she didn't have a reason to do harm to Dave. Being in situations to were you don't know who to turn to you may sometimes want to give up and that's not what Dave did when he was so hurt and so mad that he wanted to run away or do something but didn't know who to turn to. When he did turn to someone he just couldn't take it anymore and I believe that was the hardest part for Dave to do. "A child called it" touched my hurt because I told myself that if I was to every have kids I would not ever treat my child like that. The question I had in my mind as I read the book was why did she treat him so bad for no reason? I am sure that Dave was asking the same question in his mind. The lord was on his side I believe because he didn't give up, he didn't die, he didn't try to commit suicide, he didn't take it out on anyone, he didn't tell, he didn't hate his mom, and he didn't show remorse. Dave is really an inspiration to me because he was strong and some kids may not have the strength nor the dignity to stay strong and that's what made Dave a hero. I know that it took a lot of courage to write a book about his life and that's why I am a big fan because now a lot of people knows what he went through and how he survived through the toughest times in his life. I am influenced as a child to be grateful and thankful for all the big and smallest things in life.

Rating: Summary: A Child Called It Review: A Child Called It By David Pelzer Review By Katy Even though I have never had parents that abused me I could feel how David Pelzer felt. All through his young years he struggled to stay healthy, stay away from his mother, and to live. A Child Called It is one of the best books I have ever read. As young David Pelzer goes through life his mother is always there to put him down. She abused him in so many ways it's hard to believe that he lived. For no reason his mother would put ammonia in his mouth and gag him, stab him, and starve him. As David tried to turn to his dad, he did nothing but look away. He tried to stop his wife but always gave up. David's hero soon became nothing at all when he left David with his mother and the abuse got worse. One part of the book that made me hurt the most was when David's mother told him she loved him. She told him the hurting was over and every thing would be okay. She fed him and even let him sleep with her. This all happened a day before the social worker came. She asked him if his mommy hurt him, he said only when he is a bad boy. That night he knew he had been tricked she turned back in to the same wicked person she had been before. Notes about David Pelzer. David Pelzer was born in 1960. He grew up in San Francisco where he was abused from a young age. His abuse is known to be one of the worst cases in California history. David's teacher risked their careers to notify the authorities about David. They saved his life. He was then placed in a foster home. When he was he 18 joined the Air Force he was determined to better himself. David's books have received him many awards. These awards include The Points Of Light Award, The Ten Outstanding Young Americans Award in 1993. He was also recognized by a number of people including President Clinton, President Bush and President George W. Bush. David Pelzer has also written The Lost Boy, A Man Named Dave, and The Privilege of Youth. If you would like to know the out come of this book, go to your local library. Rating: Summary: Amazing work Review: Truly an amazing memoir style of book regarding the worst case scenerio of Child abuse, cruel-child abuse and the ramifications that follow that abuse. Bless this author for his fight and determination to survive through this horendous abuse. Thankful that Mr. Pelzer had the courage to tell his story to us...and that we may learn from it. Rating: Summary: Reviewed by Ron D. -A Child Called "It" Review: It's hard for me to put into words about how I feel about this book, it's a very emotional book, it's not for everyone, it has some very graphic details that can be overwhelming for the weak stomach, but yet, it's a very strong and intense book, it talks about the will to survive, no matter what the circumstances are. It's perhaps the most attention getting book I have ever read, to see how the human element can endure such trauma and the will to survive. It also puts into perspective the things we take for granted life and perhaps the greatest thing I have learned and will always remember is "that we often forget what humans are capable of doing to one another" Pelzer. I highly recommend this book if you have thoughts of having kids of your own, it raises questions about your own capability as a parent and if you have what it takes to be a good parent. It raises questions about what drives parents to mistreat their kids, when they sometimes feel it's the best way to teach a child something, often in a form of discipline, it draws a very fine line between discipline and abuse. I would have to rate this book a 4 our of 5 stars.

Rating: Summary: A Child Called "It" Review: A Child Called "It", One Child's Courage to Survive written by Dave Pelzer was an opening book. A Child Called "It" was of the most severe child abuse cases in California history. It is a story about David, who was a young boy time, who was abused by his alcoholic mother while his dad just stood back and watched. A lot of the time David was not feed for days at one time he went ten days without food. Many times his mother would try to kill him. David would go to school in Swiss cheese clothes and smell like a pig pin. On of the most memorial parts of the book for me was when his mother set him on the gas stove to burn. This part the book mad me want to keep reading because I could have almost guarantee that his mother was going to kill him. "Mother then ordered me to climb up onto the stove and lie on the flames so she could watch me burn. I refused, crying and pleading. I felt so scared I stomped my feet in protest. But mother continued to force me on top of the stove. I watched the flames, praying the gas might run out" (Pelzer 41-42). I really loved this book, its one of those books that you ca read for hours and never get bored. There are a lot of interesting things that happen to keep you reading the book to the very last page. The part I am at now David's mother is about to stab him. "Do you hear me?" Mother yelled. "Look at me when I'm talking to you!" As I looked at her, Mother snatched a carving knife from the counter top and screamed, if you don't finish [the dishes] on time, I'm going to kill you" (Pelzer 85)! David's mother try's to thank of new ways to hurt and torture David. Besides the fact David is hardly ever feed he is treated like a slave. David is given the food that the dogs will not even eat and that is what he survives on so he has to eat it. He had to obey ever thing his mother says or he will be give harsh punishment. One day after David didn't do what his mother told him to do, he at a very harsh punishment. "But this time, she put a bucket, filled with a mixture or ammonia and Clorox, in the room with me and closed the door" (Pelzer 107). I really loved the book I suggest that you should read it. Although, it is also very sad and some parts are grouse so if you can't handle that type of thing I would thank about it before you read it. The book is very interesting and keeps the reader reading to the last page and it is also a true story. Because it is the first book in a series I can't wait to read the second. Dave Pelzer did a very good writing book.
Rating: Summary: A Child called "It" Review: In A Child Called "It" a boy fights to stay alive. His mother says that he is a bad boy and that he should be punished for his wrong doing. The boy, David, is forced to do all of the chores at home. His mother hates him so much that she makes him sit outside while the family is inside eating supper. If she even thanks that he is doing something wrong she will start hitting him and punching him until he's down on the floor then she would tell him to go and get his chores down. The mother hated him so much that she him live down in the garage and sleep in the army cot. I think that the mother is horrible and needs to be taken away. When I was reading A child called "It" I came to a part in the book that was all most impassible to believe. The mother had just had a child. The baby had a dirty diaper and the mother went to go take it off and clean him up. But instead of throwing the diaper away she throws the diaper on the table and makes him eat the dirty diaper. David refused so his mother takes the diaper and smears it in his face. "She slammed my face into the diaper and rubbed it from side to side" (Pelzer 57). In A Child called "It", I read a bunch of parts in the story that was unbelievable. One was when the mother made him eat poop. Some others were when she made him eat vomit, drink Clorox, abused him, and staved him. Sometimes she would not feed him because she thought that he was eating food that was not given to him. She would also starve him because he had a certain amount of time to finish his chores and he wouldn't get them done on time. "During the period of time when father was away, Mother starved me for about 10 conceptive days. No matter how hard I tried to meet her time limits, I couldn't make it" (Pelzer 104). I thought that it was a very sad book. I don't think that she should have treated him like that. If I was him I would have ran away if I got the chance.
