Rating: Summary: "A Boy Beaten" Review: I would recommend the book THE CHILD CALLED IT by Dave Pelzer. In the story the main charactor, Dave, is abused emotionally and physically by his mother. Dave struggles for many years as he is beaten, starved and leftout of his family's daily life. Finally Dave lets out his secret and takes his mother to court. His mother lost custody of Dave but kept the other three children. Along the way Dave meets new people that love and care for him more then his family ever did. If you read this book you won't want to put it down even at the end. To read on about Dave's life there are two sequels about him adjusting to his foster homes and living out on his own.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic book Review: When reading this book, you will wish that it were a fictitious look at a child that deals with unspeakable abuse in his life. What you realize through tears is that this really happened to this child. So many things he had to endure, so much more than any 'Real' parent could ever imagine a child having to live through. It is appalling, emotional and yet David pelzer finds hope and forgivness to that he can go on to lead a normal...mabye even better tahn normal like. He is a Husband, a father and a man in every sense of the word. Thsi book is very powerful. Will make you thing about what other children are going through, will they be able to come out of the darkness as Mr. Pelzer has? Is it not our duty as part of the human race to try to stop these horrible details? I rate this book as tops in the abuse related-Self healing books that hold such titles as Nightmares Echo,Color Purple, Finding Fish and Running with Scissors. As well as, not to be outdone-All of the David Pelzer books. Macy Gray
Rating: Summary: Beyond Courage Review: This book goes beyond the normal courage of a child that lves through such ordeals as Mr. Pelzer lived through. A book of the ages, one that must be put in Libraries and Schools-one that parents should have to read and one that should be reading material for all Child Protective Services. This book is powerful in its content. A must read! (...)
Rating: Summary: Unbelievable Review: this book left me speechless. i cannot imagine what this man must have went through, and i thank God for that. in the beginning there's is a part titled "The Rescue" an the very last line reads "I'm free?", that made me cry. i don't know what else to say other than this is THE saddest book i've ever read in my entire life. it is a true tear-jerker.
Rating: Summary: Pain Review: The book "A Child Called It" by Dave Pelzer was probably the best book I have read this year. This book talks about Dave's childhood when his mother would beat him and tell him he was a bad boy. Dave heard his mother say he was a bad boy for so long that he would believe her. While Dave was with his mother, he was put through so much pain that you would think that the kid would want to kill himself. In the first book, Dave Pelzer was not fed for almost a whole week so he went into the cafeteria and ate frozen food like hot dogs and when he got home his mom made him throw-up to see if he ate or not. When she saw that he ate something, she made him eat the hot dogs that he threw-up. I would recommend this book to everyone; even if you don't like reading, you should still read this book. It will make you cry because this kid was put through so much pain and your life is probably so perfect that you don't need to worry about getting hurt. I would recommend you read this book.
Rating: Summary: "HAVE YOU EVER" Review: Have you ever been put through so much pain and suffering that you don't know what to do? Have you ever just wanted to die or to be killed by someone, anyone? The amazing book titled A Child Called "IT" goes through deep, deep details of how a little boy, Dave Pelzer, went through. Not to give too much insight on the book, but you may cry during different times while reading the book. I would recommend this book to almost everyone, in the age limit of 11-12+ years of age. This book is so significant that I don't think I have read anything like it before. In my opinion, I think this book will touch the hearts of everyone as it did me. When I first started reading this book I couldn't put it down because it was so darn interesting. After reading this book I read The Lost Boy and am now reading A Man Named Dave.
Rating: Summary: A Touching Story Review: I think everyone who has the chance to read the book A Child Called It should do so. I believe this because the book along with its writer is truly remarkable! I find this book is so remarkable because Dave Pelzer took the time to write about the abuse he suffered as a child and the dangers that it presented for him. I read this book because I heard it was a good, touching, true story. I highly recommend it! I have no relation to this book because I had a good childhood and that's why I find this book so interesting/crazy. I hope to read the sequels The Lost Boy and A Man Named Dave and find out more about Dave's struggle to live. P.S. - This book is mostly for readers 12 years old and up. Also, if you have a weak stomach, this book has many vivid illustrations and you may find it disturbing.
Rating: Summary: A Child Called "It": A Child Tormented by His Own Mother Review: In this novel, Dave Pelzer lives an unlivable life. Dave lived the first few years of this life in happiness, he had everything he could dream of. Then his mother started to drink. Her drinking went out of hand and she took it out on her son Dave. She tormented him in every way and found every way to hurt him. Dave's mother tormented him by making him live I a cold, dark, and smelly basement, starved him for days, and even tried to burn him over the stove. This book was an unforgettable life story of one of the most severe child abuse cases in California. I liked this book because it made people reflect to their own life and makes them think twice about what they have and go through. Also, this book shows what are some of the things that goes on in the real world that some people don't know or think of. Once I started reading this book I couldn't put it down until I finished the whole book. I think that everyone, no matter the age, should read this book. It's good for the adults, but at the same time for kids too, because this is a story that everyone should know about. Anyone that reads this book won't regret it, waste their time, and will enjoy it very much!
