Rating: Summary: A MUST READ TO HELP UNDERSTAND EMOTIONS OF AN ABUSED PERSON Review: I couldn't put this book down and I had to buy the next in the series the very next day. You can't tell an abuser by their looks and they could live in your neighborhood. This poor kid went through so much hell it made me cry. This should be a "must read" for all teachers as they are the folks who see our kids regularly. The story makes you so mad that you want to ask questions of why the people around Dave didn't act sooner. YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK even if you don't read on a regular basis or if you have family member who was abused. It WILL help you understand what an abused child goes through or has gone through and what that person carries with them now emotionally as a child or as an adult. You won't be able to put it down and you'll tell everybody you know about it.
Rating: Summary: One of the best book's i've ever read. Review: This is a great great book about Dave's courage to survive from ages 4-12. The first chapter is very very touching i almost cried, but the rest of the book will make you cringe inside. If you ever want a good story to read A Chiled Called "IT" is it.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Description of Abuse-Gone-Unnoticed Review: When I purchased, "A Child Called 'It'," I was a bit skeptical because of it's seemingly easy and short read. I was WRONG! I read this book in one sitting and gulped down every bit of detail Dave included. This is the story of Dave Pelzer (author), who was grotesquely abused by his mother, saddeningly neglected by his father, and shunned from the family. He was made to sleep in the freezing basement, eats the spoiled scraps the dog refused, and came close to death on many occasions with such awful experiences as his mother locking him in the bathroom with a bucket of ammonia (he had to find a vent and try his best not to breathe in the fumes). It is guaranteed that, if you read this book, you will not be disappointed. It's detailed and tender-hearted accounts make you cheer for Dave's accomplishments and join him when plotting revenge. Not a book for the faint of heart, but a wonderfully eye-opening experience. Highly recommended! :o)
Rating: Summary: A sad, sick book ...... Review: This book illustrates how to get rich quick posing as an abused child. All the abuse that Dave claimed would have killed him but alas he lives to reap the profits from book sales. This made up story is sickening as well, and made me feel depressed and dirty even if it is all lies.
Rating: Summary: One of the best book I ever read! Review: I bought this book on a spur of interest just by looking and reading a few pages in a local bookstore. This book has really touched my heart. Over the pages of this short book, it tells us of a story which we would have thought impossible in today's world - a story of how a boy has to put up against his mother's endless and insane behavior. I have cried with this book and I believe many of you will.
Rating: Summary: Sad,but strong Review: Hi. When i read this book i felt sad ,but i felt a strong impact from reading this book. When i was done reading this book i could feel that it changed my life a little. Now I feel differntly about how people might look and dress at school or how some kids steal, now i know some kids steal because they have no choice, they don't get feed at home so they have to surivive some how so they steal. For all the kids who get treated like David did then keep having faith that you will be resuced. Never for get that god will help you get through your pain and that hes always watching out for you.
Rating: Summary: A child called 'it' by dave pelzer Review: I have finished reading the book called "A child called 'it'" I was horrifyed by what i read and in disbelieve that this could really happen? A autobiography by Dave Pelzer the vivtim of salvary and abuse. Dave surrived horrifing accounts of burning, stabbing, gas chambers, beating, poisoning and starvation were all just daily things that happened to him through his mother as he struggled to eat and sleep in order to stay alive of another day. Dave could not understand why it was happening to him but as his mother said he was a "bad boy" I recomend this book to everyone, except children under the age of 12 because of the disturbing context, but for older people this will truly have a impact on you one way or another.
Rating: Summary: Worst child abuse I've ever encountered. Review: This book has inspired me to quit my job and my career as a manager of 35 people in the advertising business. In 3 months I will be pursuing a career in social work and I plan to devote my time to the abused. Although this book was a great read and I couldnt put it down, I had to remind myself that this truly happened and will continue to happen as long as people dont get the help they so desperately need. David endured such abuse that made me gag at times while reading. I prayed for his mother to burn in hell for what she caused this boy. I'm now reading A MAN NAMED DAVE, and enjoying it to the fullest. After reading A CHILD CALLED IT and THE LOST BOY, I'm amazed at all the things that David has accomplished. This boy who once, well for many years, sat in a cold basement in pain, is now such a productive human being. I believe every single human being should read this trilogy.
Rating: Summary: An inspiration Review: If you read two books in our life read this and Let's Roll.We all think we have it hard these are books that make you realize there is always someone else worse off than you.I applaud the way this young man had the courage to tell his history and the life he chose to lead with the lord
Rating: Summary: unbelivable Review: I read this book in 2 hours flat. I was just amazed that a mother could treat her own child this way and that it took so long for someone to step up and help this poor child. A must read for everyone. Its based upon the 3rd worst child abuse case in CA history.
