Rating: Summary: A Complete Eye Opener! Review: In A Child Called It, Dave Pelzer tells of his childhood and how he survived with an abusive mother. Dave told his life's story in a way that put you in a trance. He tells of his day to day experiences, and it is like you are right there living it with him. I didn't want to put the book down. I jumped, cried, and felt all of the young boy's emotions as his mother plays her abusive games. Then his hero disappears, and he finds out he is no longer a member of the family, just an IT. I feel A Child Called IT helped me be more thankful for what I have now and not focus on my wants. His childhood story is so sad but I'd recommend this book to anyone and I feel it is a great eye-opener.

Rating: Summary: the author is a phony Review: For those of you who think this is a TRUE story...FYI, there was a story in the New York Times review of books last spring that exposed the author as a phony...but I guess he's quite the con man because his book has been a bestseller for a couple of years...if you think you're buying a memoir you're not; if you're looking for a work of fiction with graphic abuse, then this is the book for you....
Rating: Summary: Awesome Strength Review: This book is wonderful. If you are the sentimental type and sometimes you might just need a good cry, this book is for you. It's so vivid with all the discriptions, that you can put yourself in his place...It's a wonderful book, I havent read the continuence, "The lost boy." but It is Dave's life from 12-18. I recommend this book for all ages! :> ;}
Rating: Summary: A child called "it" - one child's courage to survive Review: As a child, Dave Pelzer was brutally beaten and starved by his emotionally unstable mother, a mother who played torturous games that left one of her sons nearly dead. She no longer considered him a son, but a slave; no longer a child but an "it". His bed was an old army cot in the basement, his clothes were torn and smelly, and when he was aloud the luxury of food. It was scraps from the dogs bowl. The outside world knew nothing of the nightmare played out behind closed doors. Dave's mother abused him a lot, and she stabbed and burnt him, as well as making him inhale poisonous toxins. He had to steal or look for food in rubbish bins, and he had to wear ragged and holey clothes. His mother would just sit and watch TV, and drink all day, and only get up to beat her son. His brothers would just sit back and watch, and his father never dared to help him! A child called "it" is a very effective book, and has been the number one best seller, this is because it is very sad, and it also has a circular narrative, which makes the book more effective and interesting, because the story starts at the end of the book and ends at the start. This helps you to understand the book better. Dave Pelzer's autobiography of his childhood is very touching, and it makes you realise what a terrible life that some unfortunate children have to put up with, and how sad, lonely and afraid they must be. It makes you think about the reality of life, instead of just fun fantasies that you find in non-fiction books, and it makes you realise that the every day things that you take for granted, like food, is a luxury to others.

Rating: Summary: A sad but true story Review: A Child Called It is a true story. It was written by Dave Pelzer who went through terrible abuse mentally a physically by his mom. In this Book Dave was able to express how he was feeling at that time and how he as now grown and was able to say anything that he wanted to say about his mom. Dave talked about all the events that he had to go through while he was growing up with a very abusive mom. He wrote it with such anger, yet I could not help myself from crying every chapter. The things his mom would say and the way she would say it just tore me apart. The worst part was the fact that every detail was true. I would sit there crying and not being able to put the book down even though I wanted to so bad. The images I would have in my head were awful, but Dave described every scene so well. The story surprisingly starts out explaining the rescue, and how he got away from everything. I think Dave did this so u would know that there is a happy ending. Then Dave explains that it was not always miserable for him, there was a time in his life that everything was good. There was a time that his mom was always nice to him. He labels that "the good times." Then chapter by chapter he explains with much detail, the abuse and "accidents" he went through. He made me feel like I was there with him experiencing everything he went through. This is what I think he was going for. Although this story was sad and emotional, I read it twice and I plain to read it again, because it is a story that helps you realize the horror of child abuse and makes you have the courage that Dave had. I recommend this book to anyone who is struggling and needs a little encouragement. Also to anyone who is just looking for a read hat they can really get into.
Rating: Summary: The good book. By benji Johnson. Review: I liked this book because I was having a really crappy life,(or so I thought) and then I read this book and it really helped me to understand that I could have it alot worse and that there are other people that I probably knew that had it worse than I. Right after I read this book I heard my mom scream Hey dave pelzer is on OPRAH! So I whent to the t.v. and The first thing that I heard him say was... "I forgive my mother for EVERYTHING that she has ever said or done to me."....................WOW! This book is very sad but it is an exelent book and it will help you if your in the dumps.
Rating: Summary: Not even going to finish.................... Review: Let me start with the fact that I am an avid reader and will read almost anything but I am halfway into this story and I am not going to continue reading this foolish tale. I have said "Why?" or "This doesn't make any sense." just once too often. I don't believe a word of it. There is way too much detail in some accounts but absolutely no insight as to why this stuff is occuring. It is a poorly written account of imagined child abuse for monetary gain, nothing else!
