Summary: I loved this book. Everyone should read it w/ an open mind.
Review: I knew when I picked out this book at the airport I would have an interesting flight. I couldnt put it down. I too grew up in an abusive family but I never sufferd how David did. As I read, I grew more & more angry at his parents and brothers. I'm so glad David grew strong and gave us all the chance to learn how different people are in this world. It really saddens me to think about how many of us have to suffer when living with a sick family member. All my heart goes out to David Pelzer and every other child,elderly person or animal who endures the intense pain of abuse. I recommend this book to all people, and hope everyone gets out of it what I did.....

Summary: I think the book was poorly written. And I am suspect of #2.
Review: I just cannot believe that your average review was 4 1/2 stars. Did you get relatives and friends to review them?!What David Pelzer went thru was horrid. But the writing is repetitious, contradictory and at times makes me wonder about the veracity. Why do I need to get another book to hear what happens next. David had to bury his feelings to survive -- but he shouldn't be burying them when he finally can write.

Summary: Addresses an important issue but leaves many things out.
Review: I read this book and The Lost Boy in the lastseveral months. It seems that this family was better than the Brady Bunch then things evolve and David gets the brunt of abuse. I beleive that "Mother" abused the other boys as well but not anywhere near what happened to David. It does not even seem alchoholism was an issue since she constantly beat and starved and punished him while sober. From the time he was in first grade what started out as corner punishments evolved into hitting then beating, severe punishments, No toys for Christmas to starvings to feeding scraps, to the vomit eating episode. I beleive most of this is true but I feel he exaggerated the extent othere saw him. I don't believe for example that his mother would send him to school dirty, holes in his clothes, holes in his shoes, and marks all over him daily. I also think that the bathtub treatment was hard to understand since he would die of hypothermia in water below 60 degrees. Why if he went to school like this did the teachers not act early on and wait til he was 11 or 12. Also after reading the Lost Boy I tend to believe that David had some behavior problems that niether parent could cope with. Mother would beat and starve and abuse him all the more when she couldn't deal. The Father seemed to just ignore it. I get this evidence after reading the Lost Boy. Also the fact he was held back in 1st Grade gives evidence of behavior problems. Maybe some teachers disliked David along with the Principal and they were blinded by this dislike to David's plight. Dates were alos inconsistant. March 5 1973 was a Monday not a Friday. Maybe it happened in 1972?Also what became of his mother, father, brothers?How did he have his son and what about his son's mother?Hopefully a Man Named David will resolve this. I do feel that even if he had behavior problems he or no other child deserves to be beaten, starved, get no presents at Christmas, Be told Santa Clause did it, Be grounded in the basement, forced to do hard labor or at least excessive labor. I feel that Mother should have been dealt with harsher.

Summary: Not only captivating, but an unforgettable story
Review: This book was a real eye opener for me. I not only felt the pain of this little boy, but he captured my heart. He also made me realize just how lucky I am and how much I have to be thankful for. I really enjoyed reading this book and I found that I couldn't put it down until I finished it.

Summary: It was very disturbing
Review: I thought this book was very interesting, yet very disturbing. It opened up my eyes to see that children are actually abused like that. Well, maybe not that severe of abuse but still it is abuse. I couldn't believe the mom could do such horrible things to her own son. It was a very good book though and I think everyone should read it.

Summary: Impossible to put this book down
Review: I began reading this book around midnight figuring it will take a few days for me to finish. I was completely surprised that at 2:00AM I had finished the book. This book was extremely easy, interesting reading. It has been recommended by so many classmates, co-workers, and professors I felt I should read it. I am so glad I did as this book was a sad but true representation of child abuse. Dave is a truly inspirational writer and an motivating force to those who have been abused or work with the abused. This has to be the best book I have ever read and I am ordering part two right after I type this.

Review: David Pelzer paints a vivid picture of his journey through child abuse. This detailed account allows the reader to see through the eyes of an abused child. This book should be read by anyone who works or comes in contact with children. As a teacher, it changed the way I view my students.

Summary: incredible wake-up to the real world
Review: i feel this book took a lot of courage to write. however, i am very dissapointed that in the end of the book, he didn't say what happened to his mother-i feel all of the people who read this book deserve to know what happened w/her and if justice was served. And to David, he is an incredible man and I look up to him for having so much courage. When i read this book, i was so disgusted, i have never been ezposed to anything like that and after i read it, i'm so much more thankful that i have a family who loves me and treats me with care.

Summary: A QUICK SUMMARY
Review: A Child Called "It" is a compelling true story of one child's will to overcome the traumas of child abuse. David Pelzer writes about his troubled childhood and having to cope with his abusive, alcoholic mother during the 1970's in Daly City, Ca. Although David's mother is abusive she does not treat her other three son's, Stan, Ronald, and Ruseell, as cruelly as she treats him. David's father, also a drunk, unsuccsessfully tries to help David but later leaves without him due to is wifes uncontrolabe behavior.

Summary: a heart touching story
Review: I absolutly loved this book. i do not read much but i finished this book in one day. this book touched my heart along with my soul. i wanted to reach for this young child hold him in my arm and not let go till i took all his pain. this book is the only book that brought tears to my eyes. tears of pain and suffering. this is the best book i have ever read.
