Rating: Summary: A horrific story of one boy's struggle to survive abuse. Review: Imagine the horror of spending every waking hour in fear. Not knowing what kind of punishment and torture will have to be endured. Foremost not knowing if the daylight shining through the window will be the last ray of sun seen. Although many people are numb to the fact that child abuse really occurs in thousands of homes every day, it does. A Child Called "It" by Dave Pelzer, marvelously compares a life full of happiness and a life full of torture and pain. The book tells a whole lifetime of abuse into almost two hundred pages of riveting trama. It also displays one boy's courage to overcome all odds.

I couldn't beleive it, I actally had tears running down my face, it was so sad but had a happy ending to it. I recommend this book to anyone. It is a very inspirational story just as the book cover says it is. I think it is great how David turned out in the end. Also, dont forget to read A Child Called "It", thats a good one to.
Rating: Summary: Very sobering and depressing Review: I was deeply affected by this book. I hope that all is not true but it makes me wonder how in the world can a mother abuse her child like that. That is definitely not my world
Rating: Summary: Captivating and Breaks Your Heart Review: I read both of David's books in two nights and am looking forward to the final book to be in print. I am a mother of 2 girls and can't even imagine how a mother could treat her child in such a sadistic manner. David is an incredabily strong person and very much admired by all that read the book. I am hoping that his mother receives her just punishment... whatever that could possibly be.
Rating: Summary: I found this book to be a very tender, heartbreaking story. Review: Dave Pelzer has written an incredible story. The heartbreaking part is that he also lived the life that he has written about. The glorious part is that he surived and is able to share the awful truth about child abuse. We all need to be tuned in to the signs of abuse. This story brings awareness. It may save a life.
Rating: Summary: An astounding book for those who are blissfully unaware. Review: The courage to face the pain, and the insight into who was the actual problem, is astounding. This book leaves questions unanswered as to how he ended up as an adolescent and later as an adult has me running back to the bookstore. I was walking around the mall, killing time, when I popped into the bookstore to look at the bestsellers. This book caught my eye, and I began to read the first few pages. A woman standing nearby was watching my horror and tears, and also that I could not put it back on the shelf. She came up to me and told me that I would have to read the sequels, "The Lost Boy," and "Dave as The Man." Since my time was up & I had to run to meet my husband, I vowed to go back to the bookstore as soon as I could. When I did, I stood in one position for two hours in the aisle until I finished reading the entire book. Hooray! to David for telling his story! Many adults who have been abused in the name of love and "good parenting" have kept the secret for too long, unable to face the incredible pain and work through it to the freedom that lies on the other side. This story parallels my husband's experience as a child. He has told me only bits and pieces of his abuse, but his gestures are identical to David's descriptions of thoughts, feelings and reactions. My husband has not yet summoned up the courage to face his childhood pain. He has read "If You Had Controlling Parents," and is now reading, "Emotional Intelligence." However, he could not pick up the book to read the chapter on child abuse. I hope to gently suggest to him to read David's book, so that he can begin to know the freedom of breaking through the bonds of past pain. Keep going David. Speak to the men and women of this country who are in dire need of your strength and encouragement.
Rating: Summary: A heart-breaker Review: This book truly made me think of what happens to some kids and made me realize how fortunate I really am. It made me count my blessings over and over again. I cried while I read this book and couldn't put it down. How anyone could do that to their children is beyond me. THank you Dave for sharing your story! I can't wait to read the other two sequels!
Rating: Summary: The Best Book I Ever Read... Review: This most compelling book I have ever read, I cried the entire way through. I couldn't wait to read "The Lost Boy" and found it to be every bit as good as it answered all of the questions I was left with from the first book but gave me a few more that I am looking forward to be answered in his last book. I am waiting patiently for "A Man Named Dave" to be released.
Rating: Summary: Dave was a survivor, how many didn't survive? Review: This is such a powerful and moving book about Dave Pelzer and his encounter with one of the deepest forms of child abuse. As an instructor in a community college one of the topics I cover in class is child abuse. This book is now required reading for all the students. He was a survivor, how many of our children don't survive this continuing abuse?
