Summary: Worth every difficult turn of the page . . .
Review: This book was a difficult read, but one that had to be undertaken. It is a piece of the puzzle that had to be put in place to see the big picture. Dave, if you read this, you might want to check out a book which tells about the first case of a child being rescued. It's called "Out of the Darkness: The Story of Mary Ellen Wilson", by Eric Shelman and Stephen Lazoritz. It details a child's rescue by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) in 1874 New York City. Yes, she was rescued by the SPCA! It, too, is available on Amazon, and should be read by readers of Dave Pelzer's book.

Summary: A BOOK THAT MAKES YOU WANT TO HUG YOU CHILDREN.
Review: I saw Mr. Pelzer on a t.v. talk show and I was shocked at what he had to share about his abuse as a child, being that I was also an abused child I decide to get his book.I was in tears from the beginning of the book as I could relate to his story a years of abuse from his mother, I was abused by both parents from the ages of 2yrs.- 18 yrs. of age. I met a man when I was 18 yrs. old and after 3 weeks of knowing him we got married, just so I could escape the abuse of my parents, I am happy to report that after 24 years of marriage, I am still married to the same man. We have only one son who is now 19 years old, and still lives with us. Our son was not raised with any abuse at all we never left him with anyone, not even my parents! I think anyone who is a parent or who was an abused child should read this book, Mr. Pelzer and myself both know that just because you were abused as a child you do not have to repeat the cycle, we do not abuse our children and they are perfect.Alot of people use the fact that they were abused as a children for a reason to abuse their children. That is no reason to do it to your children, our children did not have anything to do with who or why we were abused as children.I think of all the books that I have ever read this book, "A CHILD CALLED IT" has had the most impact on me. I can remember so much of what was written in this book and I read it over a year ago, and I also read "THE LOST BOY" too.I have recommened this book to many people, I let someone use my copy and it was never returned because it is being shared by many people, so I guess I need to buy another copy, (I do not mind doing that).

Summary: Very "SHOCKING"!
Review: I was abused as a child from the time I was 2 yrs. so,it was one reason I chose to read this book. I was always relateing to Mr. Pelzer's accounts and how he felt on a daily basis. It is amazing that we hear about the abuse of our children and yet a lot of people chose to turn their heads and not get involved. I would love to meet Mr. Pelzer one day and I hope to hug him and thank him for being so honest and writing about the terror that he went through as a small child.I have recommended this book to many people that I work with in law enforcement and in the medical field's I think anyone who has a child or works with children should read this book, because this kind of abuse still happens and we need to stop it.

Summary: He is a noble man for his survial.
Review: He is the bravest person I ever read about because of all those years of abuse he took. Also this was also the saddest book I ever read,I felt very depressed. I really suggest he should make a movie out of it to get a visual look .

Summary: The Most Heartbreaking Story I've Ever Read
Review: I received this book and read it all in the same day. I can relate somewhat to the pain of the author because I too was a product of abuse. In fact, my mother was the one that gave me the book. I'm not sure if Dave Pelzer gets to read these reviews, but I think he is an amazing human being. My life has been touched by this story, and anyone that it doesn't touch, well obviously they have no feeling or compassion. I cried so hard at times that I couldn't see the lines any longer, but I still couldn't put it down. God has his reasons for allowing things like this to take place, and even though we don't understand we have to have faith. Dave kept his faith even when he reached a point of not understanding why God let it happen to him. It must have been very difficult for him to keep his sanity through some of the more difficult incidents, but I'm glad he was able to do so, otherwise I wouldn't have been given the chance to learn of his horrific childhood and feel a small part of his pain as I read. Everyone needs to read this book. All children deserve love and respect, and it's our job to give it to them. May God be with you Dave Pelzer. You are truely a winner in my book.

Summary: True and honest account of one boy's survival for life.....
Review: This book is a must read. The things that this boy encountered and survived is disgusting and inspirational at the same time. I think that the weak writing in some places shows the little boys vulneralbility and immaturity where it is not otherwise shown. David Pelzer was not an ordinary ten year-old little boy. He had to mature and learn to survive all on his own, where as most ten year-old boys are worried about trivial things. This book touched me and taught me and helped me understand the children I work with. This book was heartbreaking and yet it made me realize just how important I am to the children I work with, who have to encounter some of the same things(prbably not quit as bad) It is a shame that anyne would have to go through anything like this and I tip my hat to David Pelzer for speaking out in such a brutally honest way and sharing his feelings. He is a true hero.

Summary: Riveting
Review: I bought this book today and a few hours later finished reading it. It is a sad commentary on how society turns it's head the other way in hopes that if they don't get involved, problems will disappear. It would be interesting to learn further how the author came to be so successful in "moving forward" and forgiving(?) the past.

Summary: Terror....sums it up in one word!
Review: I read 5 pages of this book and have never cried so much in my life. I cant belive someone could do such terrible things to a child. This is a book that draws you into the heart and mind of all abused children and gives you the drive to do something about it. For all the survivors....I commend you. And for those of you who dont know what it's like to be beaten, tortured, taunted at...read this book and you will. And on that note....i will say, you probly won't finish with a dry eye.

Summary: A story that teaches you how to love and to be greatfull.
Review: It warmed my heart. You will feel as though you are the one that is having all the troubles. The author makes you feel like you are in the story with David feeling his pain and saddness. It is a book that made me greatful for what I do have.

Summary: definitely a must read
Review: this book is absolutely incredible. I have borrowed it to friends from the age of 12 to 48 and they have all equally enjoyed it. Even though it is horrible to read about and impossible to imagine, it is helpful for anyone to read. This book is important for everyone to read because we need to become aware that child abuse is a problem and something can be done to stop it. We just need to be ready to learn more about this.
