Summary: Both a fascinating story and therapy tool.
Review: As program director for a residential treatment center for abused boys, I am using the book to help the boys get in touch with their own histories. It is painful, but very helpful. The boys connect with David, then come to their therapists with their own stories. What incredible courage -- both David's and the boys I work with.

Summary: One of the Best!
Review: This was quite simply one of the best books I've ever had the opportunity to read. That a child could survive such horrific abuse and come out with enough strength to share his story with the world is amazing! David is a wonderful person simply for allowing the rest of the world to be touched with his story.

Summary: Touched a place deep within my heart and soul, changed me.
Review: My ten year old daughter introduced me to this book. I felt I needed to share this with her. I think it has changed us both forever. Neither of us slept well the night we finished it. I will never again look at any child the same way. It is hard to imagine where young Dave ever found the strength to go on and on and on. My hope after reading this compelling story is that I might be able to recognize the pain of abuse and neglect in the eyes of a child, that I might be able to reach out and make a difference. When Dave recalls the few times someone hugged him, it almost broke my heart. He wanted nothing more that to hang on to that warmth forever. Now I know that a hug, a smile, a gentle touch, or a helping hand, really can make all the difference in the world. I will never forget this story and plan to read "The Lost Boy" immediately. Dave, thanks for the gut wrenching courage it must have taken to write this book. You have opened my eyes and my daughters eyes.....wide!

Summary: Amazing
Review: I went to the book store to buy a book on yoga, but this book caught my attention. I sat to read the first chapter of the book. I was unable to put it down. Before I knew it, I had read the entire book. What David had to go through is horrifying and saddening. He is a very couragous person to endure what he had gone through and then put it in a book. After reading that, I had to let my son know how much I love him when he got home. I had made a vow to myself to always let my son know that I love him and help any child that I might suspect as being abused.

Summary: It made me realize how important my family really is!!
Review: I started to read this book and could not put it down. This amazing, yet sad story of Dave Pelzer's tradgic life make everyone who reads it or has read it realize that you are lucky with the family you have. It is a great book for ages twelve and thirteen. Trust me, READ IT!!!!

Summary: I couldn't put it down!
Review: The book is an incredible account of a young boys life. I gave the book to my daycare in hopes that maybe they could see the signs of abuse and do something about it. I bought the next book as soon as it came out, I am making sure as many people read it as possible, so that i can help in some small way to stop the cycle of abuse. The more people that are informed the better for all of us, most of all better for the children. My Aunt has had foster kids for as long as i can remember and everyone of them are treated as part of the family and still come to family functions many years after they have moved on, but i had never realized that there was such an incredible need for more foster parents. These books have opened my eyes and I plan to do what i can to help. Sherry

Summary: Heart shattering, beyond any other human experience possible
Review: Thank you Miss Jones, my daughter's fifth grade teacher! My daughter, Stephanie came home from school just going on and on about this book? I had never heard? She said her teacher started to read it, but she would have to send permission slips home, for parents approval before she could go on! I took my daughter over to the book store, and we got the last copy, along with "The Lost Boy". My daughter finished it by the time dinner was ready, and tried to spill all the beans! I said no! I want to read it! I have, since then and I am almost speechless. I told my daughter that some of what I read was like reliving my childhood! UGH! No where near the severity, but I too went though some horrible things! If I could sum up in a handful of words, about this book, it would be,,, Shocking, Inhuman, and a valuable group of positive lessons, we all can learn from! God Bless you David, and your son too!

Summary: Painful, eye-opener that everyone NEEDS to read
Review: I never thought I'd read something more painful than Frank McCourt's "Angela's Ashes", but this tops it. The horror that David Pelzer lived with is unimaginable. I had to rush home to hug my son and make sure he knew that I loved him. David is truly a remarkable person. I'm starting the next in the series tonight. To David: God Bless You.
