Rating: Summary: The strength of the human spirt is amazing. Review: I just finished reading "A Child Called It." I was amazed at the inner strength this little boy had over a sick, sadistic woman. To know that people can actually treat children this way makes me sick at heart. Never having been abused as a child (or as an adult, for that matter) I find what happened to the child David hard to believe, although I'm not so naive as to think these atrocities never happen. I found his story compelling and very, very sad, especially the part about the spineless father, in whom David wanted so much to find a hero and protector. In doing nothing, he also abused David as well.
Rating: Summary: Everyone should read this book. Review: This book made me cry. I can not beleive a mother could do this to her own child and that a father could stand by knowing what was going on. Once you start reading this book you won't be able to put it down. I can't wait for his next book.
Rating: Summary: i hate to burst everyone's bubble Review: but i didn't think it was that great. yes, he had a terrible tale to tell, but he should have let someone else tell it. he's not a good writer at all. i was touched by his story, but i'm not compelled to buy any more of his books, because his writing style isn't exactly gripping. also, i don't think anyone proofread the final copy. don't get me wrong. the author can string together a sentence, and he knows the rules of grammar, but his story is inconsistent. for example: at several points in the book, he describes some horrendous act of abuse, then proceeds to claim that this was the point when he gave up on life, didn't care if he lived or died, etc. etc. then about 20 pages further down the road, something else happens, and guess what? it was the turning point, he gives up on life again! in fact, i believe he "gives up" many, many times. he just should have had a pro help him tell the story, that's all i'm saying.
Rating: Summary: One child's courage to survive Review: A Child Called "It" is told through the eyes of a child. It is the story of one child's courage to survive, and how we all can play a part in helping others. And I want to thank ALL the readers for their support. God bless you all.
Rating: Summary: Once you start reading this book you can't stop. Review: This is a great book. It keeps you wondering what will happen next. The story is about a boy form the ages of 5 to 12. It tells about the abuse he went through and how he survived. I'm looking forward to reading the next book The Lost Boy.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Book about a very painful subject! Review: I bought this book and could not put it down. As I was reading it, I found myself shaking my head and thinking.. "yes, that is what it felt like". So many times putting the feelings of child abuse into words is difficult, but David did this in a way that makes sense. My spouse grew up in a very loving, well adjusted family. It is difficult for him to understand my emotional scars from being abused as a child. He has started to read this book and is starting to understand. I think everyone who has ever been a child, or has children of their own should read this book.
Rating: Summary: HEART WRENCHING & UNBELIEVABLE ! Review: I WENT TO THE BOOK STORE LOOKING FOR A BOOK ABOUT MUSIC THERAPY WHEN I SAW THIS BOOK RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. THE TITLE LOOKED INTRIGUING. WHEN I GOT HOME AND STARTED TO READ IT, I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN. I ABSOLUTELY HAD TO FINISH IT! I COULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT I WAS READING. HOW CAN A MOTHER INFLICT SO MUCH PAIN TO HER OWN CHILD AND FEEL NO REMORSE NOR COMPASSION? SHE TREATED HER ANIMALS BETTER THAN HER OWN SON. I NEVER MET THIS WOMAN BUT I HATED HER WITH A PASSION. AS I READ EACH PAGE HER SO CALLED "GAMES" BECAME WORST THAN THE PREVIOUS ONE. DAVID'S PAIN WAS SO VIVID AND REAL.AND FOR DAYS AFTER FINISHING THE BOOK, MY EYES WOULD WELL UP AND TEARS FLOW WHENEVER I THOUGHT OF ALL THE ABUSE DAVID HAD TO ENDURE FOR SO MANY YEARS. I DON'T KNOW IF I WOULD BE ABLE TO SURVIVE IF THIS HAPPENED TO ME. I COMMEND MR PELZER FOR HIS COURAGE IN WRITING THIS BOOK. I WISH SOMEONE WILL MAKE THIS INTO A MOVIE BECAUSE I WANT THE WHOLE WORLD TO OPEN THEIR EYES ABOUT THE TRAGEDY OF CHILD ABUSE AND THAT OUR CHILDREN ARE OUR MOST PRECIOUS GIFTS FROM GOD. I"LL BE BUYING THE SECOND BOOK RIGHT AWAY. THIS IS A MUST READING AND I HOPE THAT EVERYONE MAKES A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF ALL CHILDREN. I AM SO VERY PUZZLED THOUGH, DID THE MOTHER SUBSEQUENTLY GET ARRESTED FOR CHILD ABUSE? SHE SHOULD BE JAILED FOR LIFE FOR WHAT SHE HAD DONE! AND WHAT HAPPENED TO MR PELZER'S YOUNGER BROTHERS? DOES HE HAVE ANY CONTACT WITH ANY OF HIS FAMILY? AND MR PELZER, I WISH YOU COULD SPEAK HERE IN HONOLULU, HAWAII BECAUSE I WOULD LOVE TO MEET SUCH A BRAVE AND WONDERFUL PERSON.
Rating: Summary: The Most Riveting ,Compelling,Heartbreaking storie around!!! Review: My sister Lynzie Michael intrduced me to the book "A child called It" to sum up what I herd is merly impossible, the torture this child was put through was henious. I tried telling my mother about David's life, but as a mother she found it very hard to comprehend in her heart the horrible things that this human being who was an innocent child had to go through because of his mentally ill parents. I feel my heart going out to this child and all other children exposed to this kind of abuse. I and many others are so fotunate that God has given us what we have. We as a nation need to recognize and lend a hand or as much help as possible to those who are struggling with any kind of hurt, or abuse, or neglect that people put others trough. It is wrong and needs to be stopped. God bless you David for giving us a look into your life and sharing your life threatning experiance with the world. I think that after reading this increadable storie you will hold your family alot tighter than before. We all need to be loved. Thank you for reading. God Bless you all!!!

Rating: Summary: Great book!-A must read Review: This is a great book for anyone! It tells the true and heart breaking story of Dave Plezer, who was the victim of one of the worst cases of child abuse in California's history. I cried like I never had before while reading this book. Though it is depressing story, it is also thoroughly inspiring. I think this should be required reading! I liked it so much I immediately reread it as soon as I finished!Thank you ever so much Dave for sharing your experiences with the world!
