Summary: Excellent and Accurate (Finally)
Review: Finally an author who gets his dates and details right. If you want a book that accurately tells a story and impossible to stop reading, then this is the book to read. The others tell good stories (One Perfect Op), but were dissapointing in their historical accuracy (Marine Beirut Bombing date was wrong). Mr. Pfarrer's book is refreshing in that many books per year are published with special ops as their subject, but very few are entertaining, precise, and rivetting (E. Haney's Delta Force,2003). Thanks Mr. Pfarrer for your service and your candidly written book. I loved it.

Summary: Shock and Awe
Review: I couldn't put this book down. From the first few pages, telling about a nearly fatal parachute jump (out of a civilian airliner!), until the last, surprising and painfully emotional sentences-the story was riveting. This is a book that reminds you that quiet heroes walk among us. Warrior Soul is well written, honest and eventually heartbreaking. If you ever wondered what makes a Navy SEAL tick-- this is the book to read. Oh, and one more thing, thank you, Mr. Pfarrer, for serving our country. Welcome Home.

Summary: A warrior battles on!
Review: I grew up surrounded by family and neighbors who had served in the military (Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force) in World War Two. They spoke little about it to me, but I've always had a fierce loyalty and respect for their service to country. Even as I sensed these citizen soldiers hoped I would not have to go through what they had endured.

As an adult when not reading science or medical texts I find myself drawn to books like Warrior Soul. Mr Pfarrer does a terrific job of portraying the rigors, perils and frustrations of an elite warrior. As a life long multisport athlete who enjoys shooting targets and the comforts of a close family I was left strained by the stressful lifestyle Navy Seals must endure. Especially the members of Seal team six with their constant training, deployments, secrecy and out of their hands politics.

I always wondered why we had no response to the Beirut barracks bombing. I was even left with this impression after reading See No Evil by Robert Baer and other books about Lebanon. I thank Mr. Pfarrer for discussing his role as eyes on target for the French bombing of the Hezbollah HQ prior to leaving Lebanon. Perhaps there were other ops, in response, which we may or may not ever hear about as well.

His battle with cancer was equally visceral in a literal and figurative sense. Mr. Pfarrer tells a very perilous story where life hangs in the balance. He also reveals himself as all too human through his relationships with the women in his life.

Thank you, Mr Pfarrer for your service to country and for your more personal service to your readers. You gave me a glimpse of things I will never have to recon with in life.

I wish for you, a long, healthy and happy life with your wife and son.

Summary: Insightful and exciting
Review: I have just finished Chuck Pfarrer's "Warrior Soul", and am delighted to say that I feel I have read a masterpiece. This book is so much more than an autobiography of a SEAL operative and his exploits - it is an honest, in-depth and emotional look into a man's soul. And when this man is someone like Chuck Pfarrer, a veteran of one of the most rigorous Special Forces training programs in the world and of so many combat operations around the globe, it is truly a privilege to have access to his narrative. Some of the more amazing chapters for me were those on operations in Beirut, the recovery of a "Trident" missile motor in the Atlantic, and the prevention of a terrorist attack on a U.S.N. ship in the Arabian Sea. Extremely well written, this book is an exceptional island in an ocean of Special Forces literature.

Summary: ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS YOU'LL READ ALL YEAR
Review: I have never been a Navy SEAL but, after reading Mr. Pfarrer's excellent "Warrior Soul," I can safely say that I now understand a bit more what makes the most elite warriors in the U.S. military tick physically and emotionally. Above all else, as Mr. Pfarrer poignantly shows us, they are human beings who laugh and love and bleed just like the rest of us. Sometimes, those commonalities tend to get lost in the media's typical glorification of special forces operators. That said, "Warrior Soul" paints the most vivid picture imaginable of what it takes to become one of these special men and the lasting effect such a heroic undertaking has on their lives. This is a finely structured book penned by a truly terrific writer. I'd give it 10 stars if I could.

Summary: A surprisingly good book
Review: I picked up Warrior Soul while waiting for William Gibson to show up for a reading at Barnes & Noble and was so struck by it that I went back and bought it. Pfarrer is a better writer than most ex-military men, and his descriptions of the men he encountered and training he endured to become a SEAL stuck in my head. After getting the book home I devoured it in two days, and promptly read it again.

Pfarrer's excellent writing aside, I was struck by his tone: he neither romanticizes his military experience nor disdains it. He is as honest about it as one can be when writing about missions which were, at one point, classified. Instead of the gung ho, Rambo figures were are usually presented with when dealing with special forces soldiers, he shows us a group of highly dedicated, highly trained men who are willing to do some of the most dangerous jobs in the world. What comes though is their humanity and, for me, the most interesting thing about the book was the way in which the SEALs dealt with the unimaginable stresses under which they operate. The secrecy and tight bonding required for their job becomes, in many ways, their own worst enemy, as they are forced to live in a world apart from the rest of the military and far, far removed from any civilian life. No coming home and blowing off some steam with your wife or friends, if you have been able to hang onto them.

Pfarrer reached the pinnacle of then-current U.S. Special Forces (SEAL Team 6) and left the Navy, worn down, I think, by the intense emotional pressure of the job. I was left with a sense of awe at what these men are capable of, and compassion for the wounds they received, both physical and emotional.

Summary: Best book I've read in years!!
Review: I tend to read mainly business books with a few biographies added into the mix. I picked up this book on a recommendation from a friend and loved it! It is one of those books you can't put down and gives you a great insight into what goes on daily around the world without most people knowing about it. It is superbly written and not a war book but a book about people and what they go through in their life. Please tell a friend to read the book and appreciate all the people you walk by everyday for what they may have done for this nation. Thanks Chuck Pfarrer...keep writing and keep living!
Cheers.

Summary: Gripping and Honest Account
Review: Many readers who find their way to this review will have read many books about SEALs, their training and deployment, and their role in special operations. You might then be tempted to pass this one by. That would be regretable because this book is more than a chest-thumping tale of surviving BUD/S training. The author actually develops himself as a charter quite fully in this book. You'll find yourself caring about what is happening to him and changing along with him. I found the book well written, deeper in its revelations than I expected, and thoroughly enjoyable.

Summary: Real Life Hero
Review: One of the best books I've read about US Navy Seals. In the same category of Marcinko's Rogue Warrior and Robert A. Gormly's Combat Swimmer but Warrior Soul is more human and sentimental. The book not only describes the military exploits of an ex-serviceman but also a real life struggles of a super human being against psychological and physical odds. The real highlight of the book is its last chapter. What a formidable advice from Pfarrer: 'Hold on to the people you are close to,and love them fiercely.Get up every morning and live like there is no tomorrow. Because one day you'll find it's true.' I wish a good luck to Mr. Pfarrer in his combat against his illness.
