Rating: Summary: Great Way to JumpStart Your New Year Review: This time of year is the perfect time to look over the past 12 months and ask ourselves, did I do something that really count? Did I grow spiritually, spending time in reading and stimulating conversations, continuing to answer the questions that really matter? Did I share what I knew with others, to encourage and promote love and understanding? If your answer is one where you wish to do more, jumpstart your personal advancement this year by reading this book! The author captures the reader very well, and my excitement compelled me to finish this book within a few days. I live in the San Diego area, and would invite you to also read the books of three local authors, all of which I have heard at various speaking engagements, and were extremely impressed with, and subsequently bought their books. If you haven't read their books this past year, I would recommend them for your New Year, to help create a new, more powerful and intuitive New You in 2004: - Deepak Chopra: The Spontaneous Fulfilment of Desire - Jack Canfield/ Mark Hansen: Chicken Soup for the Soul: Living Your Dreams (Not Local, but excellent, uplifting stories) - Tiffany Snow: Psychic Gifts in the Christian Life - Tools to Connect - Marie Jones: Looking for God in All the Wrong Places
Rating: Summary: I Believe Review: My grandfather died last summer. I stayed with him and held his hand until he died, surrounded by the whole family. I have been so deeply affected by his loss, it is hard to explain. He was the first person I have lost. He came to me in a dream one night, touched my face and told me that he was "so happy". He died of pnemonia(spelling?), but was in the early stages of cancer. He was very small when he died, maybe 100 pounds. In this dream, he was fat and happy, the way he always was. You can imagine my shock when I saw James Van Praagh on TV, saying that sometimes the spirit of a loved one may contact you in a dream. I was really taken aback. I had to go out and get the book. I find the book very emotionally satisfying. It is worth the money. It gives you peace of mind. I was a bit skeptical at first, because I am a Catholic and still afraid of sinning by consulting fortunetellers, etc. I think that people should try to calm their inner selves instead of pleading to talk to James. I mean, there are a lot of lost people out there, who have things to resolve just as bad or even worse than you or I do.
Rating: Summary: An interesting and uplifting read... Review: I purchased this book while I was grieving for the loss of a loved one. Of all the books I have read during this period, this was one of the best and most interesting. The author has many good stories about his contacts with people who have crossed over. If you are intersted in this subject matter or are grieving the loss of someone special, reading this book will give your spirit a lift. Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: Many interesting and unique ideas about life after death Review: The jacket on this best-seller reads: "...a book that will forever change the way you look at death-and life." Not a believer in the occult or mediums, I must confess Author Van Praagh changed my views. A medium is described as a sort of middleman able to interpret thoughts, feelings and sights from spiritual to physical life, according to Van Praagh. Author Van Praagh presents many interesting, unique ideas about life after death along with a do-it-yourself program for communicating with the spirit world. Discussions about this shadowy area of life never seem completely satisfying because there is no hard evidence those who have gone before exist in spirit form. The idea that print (and broadcast) dignify any subject, comes into play here. One cannot help but be reminded th:tt anybody can publish anything, particularly something we would all like to believe. On the other hand, what Mr. Van Praagh has to say is intriguingly plausible never forgetting he did a stint as a writer for Paramount. Is there life after death? Yes. We possess a spiritual body identical to our physical body which, during the transition of death, is released from our physical body. This spiritual body is disease-free, eternal, and can move from one person to another through thought. Here on earth, we live in a three-dimensional world of energy which moves slowly. Spirits, on the other hand, are made up of molecules traveling at a much higher rate of speed, therefore freer, less dense and able to move anywhere through thought. A medium (Mr. Van Praagh) is able to go between the physical and spiritual worlds, pick up the faster vibrations of spirits, and interpret messages from them to this wor1d. Several chapters relate three-way conversations by the author with his client, and the individual spirit contacted. The stories illustrate various typical problems brought about by the passing of a loved one ranging from a violent accident, drowning, murder, AIDS, to suicide and death by capital punish-ment. Particularly interesting are his thoughts about suicide and capital punishment. Suicide, does not solve individual problems (they continue to exist in spirit). Capital punishment; it is wrong to take the life of another. Capital punish-ment continues the propagation of violence. Loss; we all experience loss of many things in our fives but must use this experience to make ourselves healthier and to lead a more full life. This discussion is followed with a listing six steps one can take to overcome a sense of loss and move forward to a more satisfying, rewarding existence. The concluding chapter delves into the area of making contact with the spirit world along with the thoughts and disciplines necessary to accomplish this feat. The author emphasizes that it is not a game; it takes enormous discipline, time and patience along with a sincere, deep desire to develop an ability as a spiritual go-between. Critical is meditation, described as a focus of consciousness from one state of being to another, or turning off the outside world to become more aware of our inside world. in meditation, we utilize cosmic energies that illuminate and energize the various well-defined spirit centers of the body. There may be something in what James Van Praagh has to say.
Rating: Summary: I enjoyed it very much. It has brought me a little peace. Review: I was compelled to buy the book after I saw James on Oprah. I tried to buy it immediately, but found that the bookstores couldn't keep it on the shelves. I put my order in and waited. When I did receive it, I found it very easy to read. It followed along similar beliefs as those which I hold. I have always questioned the existence of God, but found it too painful to think that there might not be a thing such as heaven. But then, where do our spirits go? After my mother passed away unexpectedly last year, I found myself hating God. Wondering if everyone saw Him as such a loving and wonderfully giving presence, how could He take away the person I loved most? To this day, I continue to question that, but have to put my trust in God to have a reason, even if I can not understand it. I have, through this book, come to believe that no matter why she is gone, at least she is in a better place. I will always regret that I never got to say goodbye.... Sue
Rating: Summary: "Life after death" Review: For years I have dabbled back and forth as to whether thier is "Life after death" or if we die and are held "sleeping" till the day comes for us all to wake as it states in the bible. Then my daughter passed away unexpectedly and I searched for answers to this mystery in my mind. I wanted so badly for her to be out there...for me to talk to,to know she was alright and unafraid. TALKING TO HEAVEN has helped me to heal a little of the questions as well as make me feel more comfortable about my daughters demise. I doubt I will ever stop missing this precious child of mine,a woman...but at least I feel that when i softly speak to her, she listens. This book will help anyone with questions, grief or turmoil they are unsure about in thier lives. Katlyn Stewart Author of Nightmares Echo
Rating: Summary: One ear to heaven, one to earth Review: I just bought Talking to Heaven and a book by a healer/psychic I hadn't heard of until I got her new book, Psychic Gifts, and after reading both, I loved Psychic Gifts and thought Talking to Heaven was just okay. I am giving James 5 stars cause he's a great medium but if you want to read a book you cannot put down, get Psychic Gifts by Tiffany Snow, which truly has one ear to (listening to)heaven and one ear to earth.
Rating: Summary: Whatever Review: This guy was a total flop on Howard Stern last week. I don't believe one thing he says.
Rating: Summary: Talking to Heaven Review: "Talking to Heaven" by James Van Praagh provided me with spiritual comfort after the loss of my brother. Praagh is a Medium who has the abilities to communicate with departed souls. As a young child, he realized that he had this special gift and has been doing it for most of his adult life. The personal insights of Praagh's work are fascinating. The many different stories of people finding that their loved ones are still present around them are enlightening. The book is well written with inspiring content. Praagh's natural writing style and his discussions of the afterlife are very easy to understand. The book is uplifting and easy to read. I have always believed in spirits and Angels. James refers to them as "Guides". My brother died a year and a half ago. It was the hardest experience I have ever dealt with. He was not only my brother but also my best friend. This book has helped me to believe that he is still with me in spirit. Even though I have never practiced Praagh's methods of contacting the dead (which he says everyone has the ability to do) I have felt the presence of my brother at different times. One such time being while I was driving in my car and thinking of him with tears rolling down my face. I asked for some kind of sign from him. In the next instant his favorite song came on the radio. I knew he was with me. The book made me understand more of what I have always believed. Knowing that our loved ones are still with us in everyday life is very comforting. This book gave me a feeling of inner peace. I think this book is a must for anyone who has an open mind whether they are grieving for someone or not. It is well written with inspiring content. It is based on the personal insights and fascinating work of James Van Praagh as a Medium. His stories heal the heart. His awareness of life after death is not false. I compliment him on the feeling of comfort and healing that I received from his book. It helped me in grief healing and spiritual growth. I believe that there is indeed life after death and that the spirit of a loved one is an unbreakable bond. I enjoyed reading this book. It made me smile as well as shed tears.
