Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Great presentation! Review: This is a provocative and thoughtfully written book. Strobel goes into great detail outlining his thought process and taking us step by step through his investigation. The chapter where he interviews doctors/experts that describe Jesus' crucifixion and physical sufferings is especially heartbreaking. It's a book that you'll think about for a long time. There will always be folks that choose not to believe that Jesus is the Son of God - no matter how well written the book or how earnest and knowledgeable the presentation. For those that believe - I think you'll find this book encouraging.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Entertaining but not thought provoking Review: As many posts have pointed out, this book was very biased and used weak arguments to support its positions. Remember guys, Lee Stobel is an evangelical Christian now and when he wrote the book. Whether he was as strong of a skeptic at one time is hard to imagine, as he does not ask tough questions. Many of my friends liked the book, because it affirmed their faith. I didn't find the book very convincing at all. I kept saying to myself, "but what about...?" I wanted him to dig deeper. My friends and family are Christians...and at one time I was one too. I had invested interest in finally finding a book that will reconnect me to my prior faith. It would be great to believe and feel a part of it. However, my brain tells me otherwise. This book, like many others on the subject, disappointed me. I gave it two stars because it is one of the better books of Christian apologetics out there. That tells you how low I rate other books of Christian apologetics.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: For New Believers Review: I can see from past reviews that those who are so rooted in their own pride and complete lack of faith find this book offensive and enjoy picking it apart. But, tis no matter. I would no more take spiritual advice from an atheist than I would take medical advice from a cab driver.Just as Jesus couldn't convince those who did not want to believe even what they witnessd with their own eyes, Mr Strobel cannot hope to reach those who are determined not to believe. Faith isn't science or even "proof". And only the Holy Spirit can reveal the truth to those who want to know. This book is more for those who already believe and want to strengthen their faith in Christ. It is especially appropriate for new believers. Remember, it is foolish to argue with the dead.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Hard evidence lacking Review: Ho-hum, another book purporting to use scientific research to "prove" that conservative Christian theology is based on material fact. There are many books like this, where the "researcher" gathers only those facts which support his predetermined conclusion, carefully filters the data, and asks leading questions of his hand-picked experts, not like a scientist searching for the truth, but like an attorney trying to win a case. UFO enthusiasts, conspiracy theorists, creationists, and other crackpots try to hijack science to bolster the case for their various obsessions. Isn't religion supposed to concern the realm of the ineffable, the intangible? To dissect it as though it is subject to the material claims of everyday reality reduces the divine to the commonplace.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: An Examination of the Evidence Review: The Case For Christ should be required reading for all Christians. A bold statement, I know, but it truly is an incredible book. I certainly would not say it is the best book I've ever read, nor the most profound. But what this book does, and does very well, is set forth in a clear and unequivocal manner, the evidence that Christ existed and that He was exactly who and what He said He was. The book follows journalist Lee Strobel on his quest to discover the truth about Jesus. His quest begins with his wife's conversion to Christianity. A staunch atheist, he noticed her life begin to change and through her silent witness started to realize that something real had happened in her life. So, using his skills as a journalist, he set out to find out who Jesus really was. Though he read many books and journals dealing with Jesus, The Case For Christ is essentially a record of his interviews with thirteen eminent scholars, each of whom is an expert in a different area relating to Jesus. Strobel examined, among other things, the life of Jesus, who Jesus said He was, who others said Jesus was and the accuracy of the Scriptures. His examination is detailed and conclusive and ultimately he leaves it to the reader to decide what to do with the evidence. This book is very well written and can be studied over a course of weeks or read in a couple of evenings. It is a fantastic read for Christians who are interested in learning more about the origins, accuracy and uniqueness of the Bible. It is also an excellent choice for anyone seeking to know more about Christianity and wishing to undertake an examination of the case for Christ.

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: A Former Atheist Himself Review: Strobel was once an actual atheist before he was a Christian. This is a crucial point in the defense of theism or against theism. Once Strobel becaming a Christian he still had skepticism about the authenticity of Christianity. This is what makes it a good book for true facts. He didn't want to prove Jesus' proclamations but wanted the truth (be it the proclamations were true or that they were lies). After he considered the facts then he made a sound decision on the truth. Many theist or atheist books have a bais in their writing and will write towards one side of the story more than the other leaving important facts of that other side out. But Strobel will keep asking questions to the many doctors of their field until the question is resolved to the most rational answer even if it brought out a fact against Christianity. And of course there is no 100% proof of theism or atheism, ( nothing can be truly proven) but Strobel gets down to the true facts and the origins of the bible. This is not a book for philisophical evidence ( which can usaully be argued at a different point of view anyway). But the whole book provides statistics of actual manuscripts and other physical evidence. But the best part of the book is still that the author was there to not defend Jesus and his claims but to attest them.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: And the defense rests... Review: At the urging of a Christian friend, I decided to read this book. I would not consider myself an atheist but someone who doesn't fit in any one religion and who feels that the establish religions leave something let to be desired (in my mind). I was raised without a religious background so I admittedly lack a strong background in Christian beliefs. But I also believe this allows me to be an objective reviewer. Unlike many reviewers who are either entirely opposed or entirely in support of these ideas resented in this book, I tried and felt I did read this book with an open mind. There is little doubt that Lee Strobel is a good author. He weaves his own experiences into the testimony of the experts he interviews and crafts a very interesting book. I found it easy to read and written on a level that even I could understand (as someone without a Christian background). Strobel presents a list of experts that are very well qualified, BUT they are all very strong Christians. While some may not find this a problem, I feel that in order to present a stronger and more convincing case, he should have interviewed a wider variety of experts. When reading the book, I found only a couple of times at most when the experts couldn't refute claims against the existence, death, and resurrection of Jesus and in many cases I felt that Strobel didn't pursue his objections far enough. I felt many times he just accepted the experts testimony without questioning the experts further. After reading the book and thinking about the arguments that Strobel presented, I came to this final conclusion: While Strobel presented several valid arguments and evidence to support them, I feel like this is only one side of the 'court case'. He now rests his defense of Christ, and it is time to hear the other side of the story before a conclusive decision can be reached. I would suggest that anyone interest in this topic read this book, but then they should also read a book that supports the other side of the argument so that they themselves can reach their own decision.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A Must-Read! Review: I've read this book twice now, and each time found things that blow my mind. This book is extremely well-written and researched, as well as reader-friendly. Lee Strobel rocks!
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: a STARTING point, but a great one. Review: This book will probably forever get voted 5 or 1 star. 5 by Christians, 1 by atheists. Surprise, surprise. I found this book fascinating, but no slam-dunk on its own. The various fields Strobel brings together point out the various sides that can be used to examine the evidence for a historical Jesus. However, EACH branch of study could consume a life's work on its own. So of course no one book will do the subject justice. This book is a fantastic introduction, and is probably more valuable for the other more specialized books it suggests as further reading. That's where the meat of the matter will lie. It's simply not enough to hypothesize people's motives for "making up" Christianity, see them as logically plausible (independent of historical context and other facts), and see the case decided. No, what's needed is a piecing together of facts from various disciplines. It's rarely done for the various debunking theories--most are simply content to say, "oh, of course people would make stuff up to get people to follow them." Strobel goes beyond this kind of hypothesis-as-fact and begins to uncover the wealth of evidence for the historical Jesus. If you read this book, and put it down thinking the case is closed one way or another, you haven't really done enough work. The issue is complex; order a few more books from Strobel's lists and discover for yourself what the Truth is.
