Rating: Summary: this kind of book writing is more like a nice long chat ... Review: The honesty of Judith is really something else and permeates every page of the book. This is her story how by birth she was endowed with psychic powers, her mom trying to hide the truth that she was only one more in her family with these natural powers (her own mother and grandmother had them too...) , the story of how she tried to escape this destiny of hers with drugs, rediscovering (or rather recovering) her powers only to be told in a dream to get a university degree (M.D.) to enhance her social status that these powers can coexist with a more formal training (by the way why shouldn't they coexist if if we are talking about two type of healings that need not be considered opposite but rather complementary), the story of how the grueling hours of studying and medical internship actually twarted her psychic gifts but also how she struck a balance between the two to finally realize her earlier dream of straddling two worlds and automaticaly contributing towards their integration. I had some questions about the book and manage to get my act together and call Judith up. She should get a 900 number because she really sounds like an angel on the line.DIAL AN ANGEL. She is giving seminars and have some tapes to awaken these powers in those who are interested in expanding upwards. I also read a TALKCITY radio interview transcript of her where she explain that in her private practice she tend to drive her patients somewhat hard. So she would teach you how to fish , don't expect her to show you her net and say "Grab, but don't forget the money". No, Judith seems more interested in moving and getting things moving than to sit and accumulate. She might ask you to sit and meditate, or visualize or basically getting off your psychic butt. In that sense this is what separate her from the rest. I told her on the phone she gives more than she receives by writing this book. She did not agree with me but time will prouve her wrong on this one. A nice book from an even nicer person.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic! Easy and fun to read! Review: This is a well written (for the layman) book. For anyone that is interested in or curious about special spiritual gifts - this is the book or you.
Rating: Summary: Inspiring Review: This book is very honest and heartwrenching , as well as heartwarming. I cannot reaveal the parts that had me crying, you must read it. Dr. Orloff took a huge risk at
publishing her most valuable and vulnerable parts
of her life. She is not doing this for selfish reasons. As for the comments that she leans too much towards religion, where else would you lean
when talking about spiriual matters as well as
the metaphysical realm? And of course mediatation
is a very important remarkable tool with regards
to inner connection and guiding your final actions. To the people who do not grasp this right now and criticize it: It is not yet time for you to receive this vast energy. Keep studying the accounts of others. It must seep
into your being gradually. As Dr. Orloff stated,
it is an effective tool to use with everyday interaction and decision making.
Rating: Summary: This book leans heavily toward religion toward the end. Review: The more I got into this book, the more I tended to doubt the credentials and the credulity of this young psychiatrist. Like "The Road Less Travelled, it led you on with words of wisdom and food for thought, but kept on going toward meditation, prayer and religion
Rating: Summary: I found the prose purple and the reports incredible... Review: I am a 66 year old psychiatrist and psychoanalyst and sincerely try to keep an open mind. I am only halfway through the book and am having trouble getting past the unbelievable reports of psychic phenomena and her preachiness about 'the psychic
Rating: Summary: Inspiring Review: Second Sight is incredibly moving in its honesty. Dr. Orloff brings the psychic into the world that we have taken at first sight. She offers us the vision that we are much more than the limited beings we've always thought we are. She tells us that we can bring love and compassion even into the most material aspects of our lives by embracing that part of us that society has deemed unnatural. No unintelligible esoterica here, just the story of one person's journey towards wholeness - a story that could be our own. Highly recommended
Rating: Summary: A highly credible account of psychic growth. Review: This is an impressive and credible account of one person's encounter with her psychic self. The explanations and caveats were well thought out and presented carefully. I never once had the feeling, while reading this book, that I was being led down the psychic garden path. More books of this caliber on this subject are desperately needed. What Dr. Orloff describes does indeed exist in my opinion, and in my very limited personal experience. But, what has continued to happen is that our psychic selves have been obscured by the sensation-seekers. Dr. Orloff redresses this imbalance admirably. I highly recommend this book
Rating: Summary: Positive Energy, Second Sight Review: To all of us, wondering about intuition, healing, energy and not fully touched by the "Academia" yet....A gifted elocuent, intelligent, honest, whimsical, clear to the senses, tender and loving. A light, guiding us away from the cavernous darkness of ignorance, iluminating joyously our own gifts, the uniqueness of our spirit. "Second Sight Positive Energy" a must to all of us wishing to enjoy fully our potential! Judith Orloff MD what a courageous and elegant soul. Tip toeing through the doors that she opened for us. Lili Guefen, H.B.V.
Rating: Summary: A rebel with a cause! Review: Anyone with a rebellious child should read Dr. Judith Orloff's autobiography SECOND SIGHT. It just might ease your fear and give you faith that everything will work out fine.
As a lifelong rebel myself, I'm convinced that a little "rage against the machine" can be beneficial. With age and insight, rage transforms to love, and the resulting energy transfusion can be enormous.
I recommend this book highly!
Peter D. Edwards
Rating: Summary: Moving story of personal spiritual journey Review: While most similar books provide help and insight, Dr. Orloff goes one better by really opening up to the reader to share her personal story.
Struggling with what she later would perceive as a gift, her early experiences in coming to terms with her spiritual second sight were confusing and challenging, even painful.
Dr. Orloff was eventually able to integrate the discipline and rigor of the scientific method and medical profession with the deeper reality found only through the heart and soul.
Her journey to this place of balance is truly universal, relevant to all who try to live life deeply and with meaning.
