Summary: Inspiring and Practical
Review: This well-written, engaging book focuses on the author's experiences as a psychic and her attempts to integrate her psychic abilities (which have made her uncomfortable in the past) into her daily life.

The author considers intuition and psychic capabilities to be one and the same, but I do not. I do not consider myself a psychic. I read Second Sight to learn how to better access and integrate my intuition (whose inexplicable conclusions have frequently made me uncomfortable) into my life and decisionmaking. This book provided me with exactly the support and information that I needed.

Reading about Dr. Orloff's struggles to merge her rational and seemingly irrational sides has inspired me to do the same. The book contains simple, practical suggestions for developing and using intuition that made it easy for me to get started and progress toward integration in my life. I now feel much more comfortable with my intuition and myself. As I've learned to trust my instincts, my decisionmaking has become less arduous, and I feel a greater peace regarding difficult choices that I have made in the past.

This book will NOT help you if you want to understand WHY psychic phenomena occur. Orloff seems to avoid this issue-- she simply presents her history. Personally, I found her approach more convincing than that of some new age psychic books which treat speculation as fact.

Summary: Accecpting Myself, Accecpting Others
Review: The only reason I rated the book 4 stars instead of 5 is that I would have liked to have had more in the way of learning how to be more of a psychic. For instance in seeing auras in the colors she spoke of. I have had psychic experiences, and have been laughed at, so, in the past, did not speak very much about it. I hope that more open minded parents, educators, relatives, etc., will encourage children to build their skills and not squash them.

Summary: Psychic and Intuitive Healing
Review: I usually listen to my books in the car going to and from work. I feel that there is so much to read and so little time. Not a new idea but quite practical. I really enjoyed Dr. Orloff and her discussion of working at the never ending task of attempting to meld her psychic abilities with her obvious medical/professional training. I guess the word that best describes this author and her ideas is more than informative ... she moves right into captivating. It opens the old grey matter for new ideas and concepts. Quite good and I recommend it for everyone.

Summary: Surprisingly down-to-earth and sensible
Review: I've been reading up on the subject of intuition, especially as it relates to healing. Someone recommended this book to me; although I'm usually put off by the term "psychic," I felt that Dr. Orloff's credentials were impressive enough to lend some credibility to what she had to say. The first half of the book is mostly biographical, but makes an important point: what she calls the psychic (I prefer "intuitive") kept resurfacing in her life no matter how much she resisted it, and when she finally learned to integrate it with her personal and professional life it enriched both. In the second half she writes more generally about the psychic and how it affects people's lives, and I was impressed with her levelheadedness and good sense: being psychic doesn't make a person "special," and like all gifts this ability can be used for good or misused for personal gain. Her warnings about bad psychics, and those who try to control their clients through fear, were well taken. Also, I feel that her criticism of traditional psychology is right on: psychic experience, and spirituality in general, have been viewed for too long as symptoms of mental illness rather than health. Her viewpoint is not so much "religious" as spiritual, and, although that may be too much for hard-core materialists, I think most readers can relate to it. I felt that the concluding chapters were rather long and repetitious, but otherwise I found the book readable and thought-provoking.

Summary: Second Sight is about the power of intuition to heal
Review: As a psychiatrist and intuitive my awe continues to deppen for the power of intuition to heal. Second Sight is the story of gathering my courage and confidence to use intuition with my patients and in all aspects of my personal life. My new book Dr. Judith Orloff's Guide to Intuitive Healing goes further into how intuition can heal the body, mind and sexuality. If you enjoyed Second Sight please check my new book out on Amazon. I continue to be humbled by the great healing scope tapping into our intuition can have. Many blessings to you all. Judith Orloff, M.D.

Summary: An incredible gift of a book
Review: This book has changed my life. In clear language she explains how to incorporate the psychic and the spiritual into your life. By following her guidance, I have been able to tap into the psychic abilities that I have. A must read for anyone exploring their own psychic abilities.

Summary: A touching and heartfelt story of acceptance and discovery
Review: I am a professional in the computer business and also share the gift of the psychic and the high sensitivity that Judith describes in her book. I'm in the process of reading the book for a second time and must say that I feel as if we are brother and sister after reading this wonderful book.

Her very direct writing style, and first person account with sometimes brutal honesty is refreshing and an act of candor and love not seen in many books on this subject. She has successfully placed the psychic gift in its true context, that of a God given gift to be cherished and used to better the lives of your fellow human and yourself. I can only hope that her book becomes required reading for all medical, spiritual, and even educational disciplines so that people who have the gift can be recognized early in life, and to receive the help and training they need to successfully use their gifts to hopefully help others on their paths.

Judith - you are a sweetheart of a lady, and I'm sincerely hoping to see another book from you...

Summary: A grounded and educated account, there should be more
Review: This is a down-to-earth book for intelligent people who know that we all have a natural psychic/intuitive ability. Books like this are a first step toward making psychic/intuitive practice an accepted part of our society. It's like a breath of fresh air.

Summary: psychic abilities are a precious gift. Please honor them
Review: I want to thank my readers for the touching letters you have written me and all the support. I was frightened to write this book fearing what my fellow physicians would think. I have received more support from the medical community and readers than I ever expected. In fact now I am giving grand rounds to medical schools around the country on how to use psychic abilites to excel in patient care. I hope Second Sight inspires you to take risks, act on your dreams and visions even if society tries to dissuade you. It is a difficult world we live in sometimes and the link we have to our inner self and spirit can get us through. My father recentlypassed away and it was my dreams and visions that got me through. Believein yourselfno matter what others say. NO one has to be alone. We are on this journey together. I feel blessed to have written Second Sight and to have so many people read it. With love and blessings, Judith Orloff MD.

Summary: Viewing the psychic capabilities in new light
Review: (1) The author wrote this book with balance. She says, and I definitely agree, that "The identity of the psychic has, sadly, been tarnished. It must be rehumanized, its integrity reestablished." The word might evoke a not-properly-defined meaning. She makes a very good attempt at redefining it, placing the psychic in new light. She describes (perhaps most of the time implicitly) how the psychic is, in reality, a positive and benefitial part of the human being. (2) The book is her own story on her psychic side. She has gone all the way from ignoring her gift to integrating it into her own life, and to the benefit of others. As I understand it, the psychic is not about "magic." It is a heightened perception or awareness whose purpose is to help guide people the way that most appropiately fits them. (3) She describes how, when she started her private practice, tried helping the way she was taught at the university: "The goal was to remain a blank screen on which patients projected their own behavior." Afterwards, she had different experiences where she and the patient developed some kind of intimacy, and how she found that from this more human side she can help patients better. Later on, she learns to use her gift to briefly learn more about the patient than is at first aparent. To me, these two traits of using the psychic to the benefit of others, and having a more down-to-earth relationship with her patients, is what sets her apart from a normal psychiatrist. (4) She also brings awareness on how the psychic can be misused (whether the person has truly developed the psychic to some extent, or not) and bring damage not only to the person misusing it, but to those around him/her.
